Benefits of Text Marketing to buld a list over keeping a list on your blackberry?

I was thinking of selling Text Marketing services to club promoters but was asked an interesting question. What are the benefits of using text marketing over just keeping a list on my blackberry and just sending out a mass text message?

Can anyone come up with some good ideas of how they would benefit more or is this just not the market to try to reach?

    There's definitely a market there.

    On the purely SMS side, and just off the top of my head;

    1. Your list is securely stored at a remote location (phones get destroyed , stolen)
    2. Schedule blasts and follow ups that always go out on time
    3. Mass response management (say RSVP for events)
    4. Convenient reporting and archiving
    5. Maybe something about larger lists / cell phone bandwidth or carrier metering that prevents some messages from being delivered on-time if at all lol

    The terms of service of the phone company might not allow a mass blast of text messages and could get the account closed.

      • Someone asked me this the other day when I was pitching SMS services.

        The answer is simple, the customer adds themselves to your list - thereby it's permission based marketing. You give them a coupon code or vip list to add themselves for updates.

        Plus, you can leverage this "short code" on other forms of marketing. Then you ask what kind of marketing are you currently doing? If flyers: add to flyer. If postcards: add to postcard etc etc.
