Review My website please fellow Warriors?

Hi all,

I know many of you get asked to review websites on this section of the forum....and I would kindly ask that you take a moment to look at my site and leave your honest opinion please....whether it's good or bad I don't mind (I'll try not to cry, lol).

The URL is: http://localbusinessadvantage.co.uk

I have yet to put a portfolio, testimonial and special offer page up there but that will be done shortly.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts. :p

Thanks,
Scott

Looks great who designed it, I am looking one also :-) for my website.

As a suggestion I didnt notice a strong call to action contact button or call link above the fold at the top of your home page just a thought that you could add one.

Nice template, easy on the eyes. Saw spelling mistake on About us page (first sentence appologies).

    • I'm going to quickly put you through some questions to ask youself...

      1. What is the goal of your website?
      2. Why would people use your services over competitors/other options?
      3. Who is your target market?
      4. What does your target market really want?
      5. What are your biggest benefits of your service?

Use that information to figure out what copy to use, what should be above the fold, and what pictures to choose.

Overall the template is decent, but I think you need to sell your services more.

      Chris

Thanks for the feedback all, much appreciated!

@Avanyx - I designed it, used a theme but the rest is my own work! Just to ask a stupid question: what is the fold?

@origin- thanks for the heads up!

@Christopher - thanks for the questions. I'm targeting local businesses here in Birmingham, UK. Have you any suggestions on how I can sell my services more and what sort of things would you recconend I do to help clients choose me over my competition?

Sorry about all the questions. Your help is really appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Scott.

"Above the fold" means everything in your website that visitors sees as soon as they get to your page WITHOUT having them to scroll down, hence the term "above"

Hey Scott. You're trying to sell services on your site. It doesn't work that way. You need to offer free content, get their email address and somewhere down the road offer them a service they need for a fee.

Build a following, then sell. Offering services is different than offering a product.

Very clean, I dig it. Are you adding a video to your site?

I suggest an auto-playing video telling the visitor What your offering, Why it benefits them and What action they should take next.

If you're interested in a video let me know. My team can put together a very effective sales video for your new site....just saying

Damn, I'm in the process of making my own site, and you know what? It's exactly like yours, I'm starting over.....

Your site is unattractive, isn't exciting, and is just thrown together because you need a website (Speaking to myself.... and you). WTF!!!!!???? What is my(your) passion and why the F! would anyone hire me (you)???? Would I give me money??? Just because my site is clean and well written, does that mean someone absolutely must have my services because the very life of their business depends on it?!?!?!?!

Seriously though, just some thoughts that come up while I was looking at your site. You did a fine job in putting all the pieces together, just thought I would share what was going through my mind.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for the posts!!

@SiteSmarty - I do offer free content, I offer a report on Mobile Marketing strategies that businesses can use to increase their profits. The offer is located in the footer and on the right sidebar of all of the pages (except home) - maybe I need to put it somewhere above the fold too??

@RoadBandit - I was thinking of adding a video to the site but not sure where I would put it as the slider takes up a lot of room, and if it was on Autoplay, you'd need to see it first really! Any suggestions where I should put it - and out of interest how much are we talking for a video? PM me if you can, I'll hopefully be up to 50 posts shortly so I'll PM you back asap.

@superrooster - Thanks for the comments. I must admit i'm a little confused about what you are saying really! It has taken me a couple of weeks to pull the site together (not been working on it constantly - trying to grab clients and building mobile sites for customers) so It hasn't really been put together in a rush - I've tried to plan it out carefully. I can see what you are saying about people choosing me over others, but I'll be adding a portfolio and testimonial section shortly so that should give some credability!

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Nice layout.

Might want to put it on FiveSecondTest.com and see what
cold traffic has to say about it.

I've always found that form of feedback invaluable for the UI perspective.

    Thanks Mary,

I downloaded your Mobile Blueprint - It's great, given me fresh ideas so thanks for that!!

And to say "great site, looks appealing" about my site means a lot coming from the 'Mobile Marketing Queen'

    Thanks MaxReferral and jmjck,

I'll give FiveSecondTest a go and see what the verdict is!

Hope it's not too bad, lol.

    Cheers,

It's pretty decent already, but to make it better, as others have said, focus on the benefits to the prospects (more sales, more visibility, etc.).

The rotating image is fine... but slow it down. I'm a fast reader, I can read it all, but my mind can't focus on your offering as the next one is popping up.
The services menu is good though.

I have the same dilemma: how to showcase my services yet be a LOT MORE SIMPLE in my approach. When people have fewer options they take more action.

"Your site is unattractive, isn't exciting, and is just thrown together because you need a website (Speaking to myself.... and you)."

WRONG! I think your site is great and checked your "tags" and they are good, as well. Glad to see you've installed G-Analytics

Yes, slow the "banner" down is a great idea. And if you can fir a viddy on the front page would be cool, as well.

Nice job Scott. Now, put up a professional Facebook Fanpage and link the 2 together.
And give away lots of free tips on the Fanpage.

    cheers.....Mike

      Rowdy,

Thanks a lot for the post! I'm glad you picked up on 'that' bit of the other post....I wasn't quite sure what they were trying to get at!! I think my site looks very attractive (but i'm biased of course, lol).

I have taken the advice and slowed the banner down. I can't slow it down much further as it starts screwing up, you get half a picture of as the other slide comes in....frustrating but at least I've slowed it down.

Thanks for checking my "tags" too - at least I know they're ok!!

I am contemplating getting a video done for the front page, just need to figure out where to put it though, there's not much room really....any views on this?

Next step is also a Facebook Fanpage....will be knocking that up tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

      Scott

Thanks for the comments Jay, they're really helpful. I'll definitely take them on NORAD as I think you are right in what you are saying!

Mercadeo, thanks for confirming! I actually googled 'the fold' straight after I posted - feel a tad dumb now!

    Thanks,
    Scott
