Google is offering a FREE online mobile site builder

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure if this was shared earlier or not (I couldn't find any related threads) But Google launched a mobile site builder targeting local business.

Check it out.

Google Sites - Mobile Templates

Is this the end to paid mobile scripts?

Your thoughts on the builder.

This will definitely be a hit to both Warriors and business owners....just two different types of "hits".

Even so, most won't hear about this or see it....or want to take the time to do it so sales will still happen. But if they're well versed in the online world....they'll know.

most business owners will not want to deal with it anyway. I think a small portion will be lost but overall most business owners will still pay someone to do it for them.

Google is fast becoming the Internet Marketer's "Carrie Nation" ! -

(the irony is...if you do not know who Carrie Nation is,
you have to google it  )

Some of you folks give in too easily!

Whenever...I've been faced with a situation like this, instead of throwing up my hands and exclaiming..... "Oh My Goodness! Big G is offering a "FREE" Mobi-Site Builder! I guess I better look for some other way to make money!"

Nope! Not I! What I do is say to myself, "Self! WHAT can little ol' ME offer clients that Big G....CAN'T?"

My answer has ALWAYS brought me MORE clients at MORE Money!

Don Alm....problem solver....never letting "Barriers Get In My Way!"

P.S. I also know that..."Business Owners are BUSY running their own bizness!" Once they feel they NEED a Mobile Site....they'd rather spend their time ON their business and pay someone else (like you or me)....to set it up FOR THEM! Reminds me of when websites first came in; There were (and still are) web design Cos offering "Low-Cost and Easy" ways to build Custom Websites. All the owner of the biz had to do was...log in...decide on a Template...and upload! Easy-Peasy!....and just $9.95/mo. Why then did all us "WebSite Builders" prosper from making websites FOR....biznesses? Yup! They wanted to spend their TIME on THEIR biz...and pay someone to do this FOR THEM!

    I agree

Google offers a lot of free stuff but in most of their markets they have not made much of a dent except email and analytics.

I could be wrong, but it doesn't look like Google is providing URL redirect codes with their service. If this is so, then warriors still have a leg up on them. Even if they did provide the code, most business owners wouldn't know (or even bother learning) how to install it. When you show them that their customers can access their mobile site by typing or clicking on their main URL, as opposed to a sub-folder extension, and how they can save money by not having to do extra advertising for a new URL extension, they should be able to see the value in that.

Actually, I think this free Google service could be used to warriors' advantage, as they could use it to build a quick mock-up of the client's homepage to show them. Plus Google is not the first site to offer a free mobile site builder, so I don't think warriors have much to worry about. Personally, I would not use the Google service, as it looks too "cookie cutter" and not very customizable. I want to be able to tweak the code as needed.

As a seller of QR Codes & Mobile Websites I was a little nervous when this came out a few months ago, but truth be told, I haven't had anybody mention this to me. I don't think many business owners know or even care about it.

Just because something is free for a business owner to do doesn't mean that they still won't pay to have it done. Look at Facebook Fan Pages... any business owner can go onto Facebook and create their own fan page in under an hour. Yet they still pay consultants to set it all up for them and manage it.

Just because some other company is offering something for free doesn't mean it is the death of selling something like that. Just my 2 cents...

I tested it out and I don't like the Google logo on there so it may become a flop. People are getting tired of seeing Google everywhere, I am. lol

There are all kinds of free mobile websites out there, but really they aren't up to par.

As an offline marketers I am hoping that you are not offering only mobile webpages to sell to clients. The idea is to link them to a mobile webpage and offer them other services such as Facebook Fan Pages, Twitter Accounts, and possibly other SEO services.

I am not to worried about this. It doesn't even pop up in the top 10 results when looking for free mobile webpages.

I'd be almost inclined to let my small biz subscribers know about these free sites from Goog. Let 'em try it, waste a bunch of time, get no results and come back to me... only this with with money in their lil fists and a greater appreciation of what it takes to make it really work.

Every service people offer on here is generally outsourced - which is therefore available to every business owner at a much cheaper price if they were to do the research to find it.

All business owners (ourselves included) do.. we are the middle men and mark-up services and products to make a profit when reselling.

There's that site builder called wix.com which is a click and drag flash builder site - yet business owners still pay serious amounts of money for a professionally designed website.

People are making money selling QR codes.. I had a client ask me to make a QR code - before even referencing the forum I went onto Google and typed in "QR code creator" the first site that came up made the QR code in seconds - if biz owners knew how easy it was they'd never pay you for it.

SMS marketing as well - they can find tons of services that are very easy for them to manage if they'd just type it into Google.

Think of offline marketing.. People are paying Offline marketing companies serious money for flyer creation and those sorts of things.. do they not know they can go into a print shop and have a flyer designed for a fraction of the price??

    Yep, no worries here.

This is exactly right. I see stuff like this as a positive because Google is helping in educating business owners about mobile sites and why they need one. As more business owners become aware of their need for mobile sites, our prospecting efforts should get easier since now they know they need it but still don't want to spend their time doing it.

I think Lime Cellular is the best white label SMS marketing platform.

Google is not the first to offer a free mobile site builder, and I suspect many will not want to use Google's anyway. Or, they won't even know it exists. Most of my clients still seem baffled by much of internet and mobile.

It's gonna be a bit like google places/maps. People are still charging to set up as the business owners just don't have the time or know how.
