** Want More Clients and MONEY = Be a More Rounded Consultant ****
I don't post much anymore, but spend some time reading posts. 2 years later i am still seeing so much of the same trend, here is some insight from the Marianas Trench of Consulting...
-Be a Consultant not an IM Marketer
By this i mean, take the time to become a well rounded savvy business consultant. Learn how to read P and L statements. Know accounting, Understand hard and soft costs, simply put Start getting a well rounded business education.
-Daily Education
At 42 years old, i am still practice daily education in areas where i know i am weak, and trust me there are plenty. If your on the WF limit thread reading to 15 mins a day. Buy BOOKS, Google is not resource for EDUCATION!!! You're either improving your education and staying ahead of the dynamic growth curve with education or your falling behind the competition.
-Put Your Clients Interests First
I was on a call with another consultant just 2 days ago, and was shocked at some of the services he was pitching to a dentist. I calmly explained to him, take yourself out of the picture, and look at whats best for your client. Put your clients business first before the food in your mouth. Doing this insures repeat clients, referrals and Instant Credibility.
-RPA = Revenue Producing Activity
Be constantly working on Revenue Producing Activity. Hanging out in the forum all day, spending time getting ready to get ready, and taking no action serves no purpose, other than Making You BROKE!!! 90% of your days should be spent on RPA. Get your butt organized if you don't have a business plan and weekly/monthly calender get one.
Run Your Business like a Business
So many consultants are failing to run their business like a business. If you can't run your own business how do you intend to help others do the same.
Get a book keeper, can't afford one, do a trade with them.
Get a LLC or DBA at minimum.
Get a Bank acct
Be professional - have a Professional Cell phone Message, i call consultants all the time and am shocked when i get their voice mail. I am like WTH, did i call Mr.Spock on Star Trek or some crazy Gnome?
Inspect what you Expect
If you expect to make a lot of money - Inspect all the elements of your business.
If you expect an outsourcer to get your job done on time - Inspect their work and timeline
If you expect great results from referrals - Inspect your system for getting referrals
If you expect your clients to respect you - Inspect how you treat and interact with them
Remember, Perception is Reality.
Whatever your client or customer perceives will be there reality. If your constantly 2 to 5 minutes late, their reality might be You Don't Care. Be conscious of what our clients perceptions are. Just like...if they perceive high value, the reality is, it's valuable.
Trust me, perception can kill you...I recently had a situation where i completely dropped the ball with some Master Mind Students, (I know My Bad) things beyond my control. However their perception was, i didn't care and it hurt some credibilty. Perception is reality and we all can create Perception Mistakes...or Monumental Kick Butt Clients.
Lastly, there is no better time to build your own personal legacy than right now.
Companies like IBM, UPS, CNN were are started during times of recession. Let's face the facts, with recession come Huge Opportunity. The question is, are you positioning yourself today in business to build your OWN LEGACY...
Here's 2 Good Books to start your Daily Education with...
Selling to Vito - Anthony Parinello
The Power to Get In - Michael A. Boylan
Hope this lights a fire under some of your Butts...
To your continued success fellow warriors...
Regards,
Robert Nelson
