CORRECTION! This was with THREE HS...not one! 20 Ads per HS Sports Memo Board with Listing of Schedules of ALL Sports for the School Year on the back.

Also....NOTE: Below....I've included the Actual Pitch I show to potential Advertisers!

Howdy folks....I thought I'd relay this to you as a Possibile Money-Maker for you (in the OFF Line area)

Just finished another of my "HS SPORTS MEMO BOARDS!"

(A Little Background)

A few yrs ago, I had a "Welcome-Program" going where I would send a "MEMO Board" to new home buyers each and every month

(see Photo Below)

This was a Handy Laminated Sheet that we stuck 4 small magnets on the back... so it could be stuck on a Refrigerator and "Mom" (or anyone) could write messages for other members of the family.

And...around the edges were ADS of local businesses. I called these Laminated pieces...."MEMO BOARDS"! These were mailed in a nice envelope to new home buyers and ....they LOVED them.

The Ads around the edges were SURE TO BE SEEN BY ALL MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY.....and even Visitors....because my Memo Board was in Plain Sight of everyone who entered the kitchen.

So...."EXPOSURE" was "Awesome"!...for an entire YEAR!

So....relaxing in my beautiful back yard one June....over comes our neighbor boy who tells me he's getting ready NOW....for the UP-Coming Football Season for his Sophomore Year.....and he will be working hard, the next couple months....lifting wgts....exercizing and running.

He asked me if I wanted to "Join The HS Booster Club".

I said, "Sure! what do I need to do?" Well....there was a fee and I asked him...."Roughtly...How many Members are there?" He said he heard it was over 2,000.

This caused me to "Crank Up My Marketing & Promotion EARS". I got one of my "HOT Flashes"; I thought, "Hey! Why don't I make up a "Fridge Memo Board" for the "Booster Club" members?

Make a Space for "Mom" to write in notes and...around the edges would be Ads of local businesses who'd like to have their biz on Local Refrigerators.....AND....ON THE BACK WOULD BE THE SCHEDULE!

Well....I did what I always do....Made up a Sample and went to show the person who was head of the Booster Club. Showed him my Sample and told him I'd like to make up a batch of these and give him 2,500 he could give out or sell PLUS...I'd give him $1,000 as a Thank You.

He LOVED it. So...I put together a "PITCH" and went out and sold 15 Ads (my 1st yr) (It's surprising how many Parents of Team Members....own businesses and WANT to....Support their Kids!)

As I went forward with this....I was able to get a consistant 20 Ads for each edition @ $570 per ad!

I call these...."HS SPORTS MEMO BOARDS"!

2,500 of these cost me $400 delivered! ($200 for printing and $200 for Magnets)....so....we get $570 x 20 per edition = $11.400 Gross....less $400....less $1,000 contribution......so we NET around $10,000 per edition!

If you'd like to see my Actual Presentation Page ....on How I Sell this Program....I'd be glad to put the Photo of it below.... PROVIDED I get some "Thank You's". (If there's not much interest, I won't)

Note: I am NOT "selling" anything here! If the mods don't think my adding a Photo of the Presentation Page I use to get businesses to Join this Program....fine.

Don Alm....offering to FREELY give people here....some "ideas' on How things are actually "Sold" in the "OffLine" world!

Great "old school" idea Don! -
leave some space for QR codes...
Are most businesses "game" for buying new ads each season?
I also live in a big "little league" area that could also encompass several towns/businesses...for that season as well -

What about the aspect of letting the school sell them as fund raiser?

This is EASILY one of the best ideas I have seen on here.

It's a genius strategy; how could the booster club owner possibly say no?

    They get:

-2500 free magnets to give away to look impressive
    -$1,000 for the booster club

    Just a couple questions?

    1) Where can these be made?

    2) What do you charge ONE place to put ONE ad on a magnet for a year?

This is another great promotion idea around high school sports. There are also tons of other sport options and private clubs this could work for.

Smart idea. So you're charging around $540 per ad spot? I'm in media consulting/advertising sales. I know it can be a lot tougher than you would think to get that much out of a lot of the tiny mom & pops (like the Mary Kay rep I see on there!), but this is great because you're prospecting people that have a vested interest, assuming they have a kid on the team, graduated from the school, etc. Those 2000 booster club members are an ideal potential audience.

I, for one, would love to see your presentation sheet.

maybe its because the schedule of the games changes from year to year ?

thanks again midasman09, you are a true inspiration on soo many levels. Please post the presentation and any other previously requested information.

QR codes sound brilliant ! now talk to the school about using a QR code to gather parents numbers and send school/club/fundraising info via SMS. Of course I would like to be the one they turn to for these services.

I just posted the "Pitch Page" I use to get advertisers (at bottom of 1st Post)

This Page also shows How I present MY "Promo Programs" to Prospects.

So...though you have NO interest in selling Ads on a "Fridge Magnet"....if you "think about" the POINTS I cover in that, supposedly simple, Sales Page....you may "learn something" as to HOW....a "professional Sales Guy" goes about selling a Program.

Wow Don, thanks a lot! This seems like a sure winner! I just have a few questions.

What site are you using to send everything to be made?

Is 11x14 the dimension of the actual board?

How big is each ad spot?

What about the magnets? How big are those? (Just wondering since you said you fit all the sports schedules on the back of the board)

Thanks again for an excellent idea!

Awesome stuff. With that kind of profit margin you could sell the ads cheaper if the market dictated it.

As others asked, though - where do you buy the product? I really am looking to do something local and this looks perfect, but if you give us your supplier of the laminated boards, that would help.

A quick Google search and I could not find anything nearly that cheap. Lowest I saw was $0.99 each, so that's $2500 product cost. Still not a bad profit, but not even close to the $400 price....

I sold something like this when I worked in a b2b callcenter except it had emergency #s on it and no space to write anything..when selling to businesses make sure you remind them no one ever throws away refrigerator magnets.they love that! I don't even like selling and I made a few sales before I quit lol

I don't see why the schedule would be on the back of the page either. It would need to be on the front which would decrease the amount of ad space available. But it would be a much more valuable item to a booster club.

Too late for football season, but there's always volleyball, basketball, baseball. One magnet for each sport.

Or go the new homebuyer route, which would just be ads. Plus space for writing or open spaces for pictures. (like Fridgeframe)

Personally I wouldn't do a laminated sheet with small magnets on the back. That seems too cheap. Full size magnets would be a higher quality product.

It truly amazes me the new things people come up with.

IMO this is a HUGE win-win-win

The High School get the 1K plus if they sell it for a $1 each they get another 2K. The businesses get exposure and the OP makes some money.

Midasman09 you REALLY deserve a HUGE thank you for taking the time to write this up and let others know about it.

    VERY COOL!
