If you don't have a portfolio of proof showing prospects what you're currently doing for clients or what you've done for clients in the past, then I can practically guarantee you that you're losing potential clients left and right.

See, business owners are a skeptical bunch because they've seen more slick talking salespeople peddling snake oil than you can shake a stick at.

Here's a small sample of the salespeople they get phone calls or visits from on a daily basis:

- Yellow page reps
- Newpaper advertising reps
- Radio advertising reps
- Penny Savers reps
- SEO companies calling
- Vendors trying to sell them new product
- Old vendors trying to get back in
- And more...

And I guarantee you that 99% of those reps don't have proof of the results they've achieved for clients.

So, that's where you can stand out.

Yesterday, I gave you my formula for building your website building skills and website ranking proof. However, today I want to give you the formula for proving your online marketing skills.

Here's my four step formula for building up a online marketing portfolio, goodwill and generating leads:

Step 1: Build (or outsource) a custom facebook fanpage for a local cause or charity. Spend a few hours sending out friend requests to local news, radio and televison personalities. Also hit up local charities.

Step 2: Create (or outsource) a custom twitter account for that local cause or charity as well.

Step 3: Create (or outsource) a custom youtube channel for the local cause or charity and create 10 videos using powerpoint and camstudio. I create a 30 minute presentation and then edit that presentation into 3 minute video clips.

For example, if I chose a local animal shelter, then I would do 10 videos on the joys and benefits of getting a pet from the animal shelter versus the pet store.

Step 4: Transcribe yourself (or outsource) the audio from the videos into articles and submit to article directories.

Lastly, of course take screen shots of everything and save the links to all the work you've done on your computer for easy and quick referencing later.

Now, if you've followed my steps for building your website portfolio, then after following these steps, you'll have undeniable proof of the results you can achieve for your clients.

    They don't need proof of results because 99.99% of them are charging for PPC ads that they make and them make sure they pay enough to get the AD on the front page of Google and that's what they Guarantee. Then they turn around and charge the customer 4 times the cost per click they pay plus an account management fee.

    Now if your taking about organic page one results of which I as a small business brick and mortar business owner never once received a phone call about, then yes you should be able to provide some evidence that you know what your doing and have had some success at it.

    I'm still considering if your step by step numbers is really a portfolio or not.

    I think it is useful info, but from my perspective, I would MUCH rather target a successful business if I was going to do FREE work for proof sources. It is much easier to go to the head honcho in town and tell him that you respect him and his business and want to offer them a KILLER package so other businesses in the area who look up to him will see and want to use your services. I see a lot of people putting non-profits out there...not a BAD idea, but non-profits aren't great for referrals in my experience.
