Major motion picture uses QR codes to advertise film release

Well well well...

The QR code has just hit the big time.

Fox searchlight films has decided to do something different.

Instead of just movie trailers and plain posters.

They've decided to go with QR codes as their introduction to the film.

I like how they use the letter M to tickle your curiosity by not letting you fully see who the actress is.

You can read further about it here:

One thing that I've noticed is that some businesses are jumping into the QR arena with no sense of what they are doing. QR codes are meant, mostly, for mobile phones, however the sites to which these new QR codes are directing are not mobile-optimized. They are slow, overly burdened with large graphics, make one have to scroll constantly to see, etc. It's annoying, but there is an opportunity here.

      Ideafool,

I totally agree with you. Some of these sites aren't even optimized for mobile phones.

However, this presents those of us who do know what they are to be used for with a huge opportunity.

Imagine how much money they spent on doing this campaign.

And it never even occurred to anyone that if you're going to spend big money on large campaigns and create QR codes, it should at least send them to a site that's optimized to be viewed on these portable devices.

These examples actually work really well for me as examples of what not to do with QR codes when I'm talking with prospects.

I use a simple compare and contrast statement to really drive home my point.

      Works like a charm.
