Can I be A Success?

I don’t like to cold call, and don’t want to.
I don’t want to walk door to door
I don’t know what to write on a flyer because I don’t know what Im offering.
I don’t know how to talk to business owners, and Im nervous about doing it
I don’t know how to explain websites or seo to business owners, even though I have read 5 wso’s on it
I don’t have money to pay others to do my work and I wouldn’t know how to instruct them anyway.
I don’t know how to build websites, and I don’t know how to outsource so I cant succeed at that.
I cant hire people on commission because I cant pay for an ad and craigslist isn’t working.
When people call in I don’t know what to say to them…even though the Warrior Forum is full of information.

Can I still be an offliner?

I cant make a WSO because I don’t know how to do anything… I cant get a paypal account because I don’t have a bank (Use someone elses).

Im not a good writer… I don’t have money to hire others to write for me.
I have asked for refunds on half the WSO’s I have ever purchased… because they didn’t turn me into a success

I cant start a mailing list because of ___________, ______________ and ________________

I don’t want to take the time to learn aweber and I wish someone would do it for me for free or on the commission that I will never earn because basically I think a lot but I am not a doer. I like to ask, but I dont really take much advice.

Im pissed because , even though I didn’t take the OTO on the free site I joined, I want them to answer my email 5 times a day, in fact I demand it, or else I will scream “bad service”, even though Im not really a “customer”.

Lastly, Im not a tryer, or a doer… I dont want to have to extrapolate any thought...

Infact; I wont make a move unless there is a promise of security, and if it fails I will blame the person who told me it was a piece of cake…

Given all of that…. How do I succeed?

Let me help you. This is a common condition, but you don’t know you are suffering from it: “You are a Wimp”.

You need to learn to fight!
You need to stop asking people “Will my wso work”?

Hello? It only cost 40 bucks to find out.

Dont want to succeed bad enough to figure out some way to get the 40 bucks?

You are a lost cause then. You better bring more balls than that to the table if you want to hang with entrepreneurs. You may lose alot more than forty bucks on your path, and you have to be willing to see that as a lesson, and go borrow another forty bucks and try again, and again if necessary.

You need to spend more time acting and tweaking than you do asking why you aren’t successful.

If you have two arms and two legs and two eyes – You have the same thing everyone else here started with.

Don’t kid yourself, nobody here (or at least very few) started with any more money than you have.

Most people here did not start with anymore experience than you have.
Most people started from the bottom.

For instance “John Durham” has an eighth grade education, grew up in the projects on welfare… and started with the rent 2 weeks overdue… and ZERO internet knowledge.

Im just one example…

Things started working when I started following them ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

When something doesn’t work you tweak it… when you have need you BUST ASS LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN – Not act like you are going for a slow Sunday drive.

If you don’t get that killer instinct worked up, you will never be an entrepreneur – It’s a fact.

Hanging around with the Band doesn’t make you a musician- The callouses one your fingers do – Untill you are ready to take the blisters and callouses – You are a “groupie”.

Hey , I use to be one too, till I got a clue.

The first step to getting beyond that is realizing “I need to get more hard core” and quit panzying around.

Nobody feels sorry for anyone who cant make money – They just think you are soft.

Why?

Because its obvious that you are swimming in an ocean of ideas floundering around saying “I cant find anything to do”.

Time to look inwardly and say “Im going to quit being a glorified groupie and Im going to be a WARRIOR”.

Im serious, this will help someone…even if it aint pretty.

You can say at this point “There goes Mr Bigheaded John Durham talking smack again and hurting peoples feelings”.

Here’s the truth “YOU CAN Succeed”.

Hate me, but you cant deny what Im saying. There are too damn many ways to make money – If you aren’t making any, it’s a personal problem.

If you are more successful than me, then I will gladly be your understudy, but if you arent, you need to listen and quit whining so much. Thats what its going to take.

If you cant find something to do here in a place like this, its because you arent "listening".

Im a successful entrepreneur. I have no obligation to make you like me, even though I hope you do.

Yes, quit being to proud to do the things that successful people do - DROP IT and humble yourself... Then you will start getting somewhere, when you realize that you are not too good to go through the trenches just like everyone else.

This will be a breakthrough for someone, and others will say "You shouldnt talk like that".

Again, I dont care.

I will never buy a report from John Durham again.... So what? Someone else will.

If you listen, you will succeed, but if you dont then you will point your finger and call me an arrogant meanie... and you will probably still be broke next month.

Go check the off topic forum - I have run my business this year under the most adverse of circumstances and you never heard a word about it till a month ago.

Even the easiest programs out there require more effort than a failure will ever be willing to point out.

There are easy success paths, but with a failure mentality you will never know it, because "EVERYTHING" is too hard for you. Time to get thick skinned.

For some, even something as basic and simple as "finding a job" is too hard. That happened to me once, and you know what I did?

I just created one!

Example:

I called a burial insurance company to find out if they needed telemarketers and when they said they had salesman but did not employ telemarketers, I talked them into trying me as a contract appointment setter... I practically BEGGED for an opportunity and talked till I was blue in the face.

Is that sales? No, its what winners do when they are DESPERATE!!!!!

Was I embarrassed to come on so strong? HECK NO!!! My daughter needed Milk and Pampers!

Could you do the same ?

Yes.

If you cant find a job, you SURE cant be an entrepreneur.

If you are REALLY wanting a job you can.... Most people dont though. Most people are looking to confirm to themselves their truth that "Oh well, I guess there arent any jobs out there".

See the difference?

Heck "BEG someone to hire you".

You are either going to make it or not right? Being a loser is no fun at all - Put yourself out there and get some victory.

As I said, for a failure, even something as simple as finding a job is hard... You got ta get over that mentality, ESPECIALLY if you want to work for yourself.

Successful people are too busy working on solutions to whine about problems, and they dont have time to wait on a magic pill, and they dont pay any attention to the bad news floating around, they are too focused on the prize to notice.


Take two of those and call me in the morning.

    I remember this story from a sales training class:
    Sales manager wants to know why the sales rep's last year sucked so much so the rep laid out the reasons by month:
    January - Can't get out selling because everybody's recovering from the holidays.
    February - Can be ok but don't expect much because it's a short month
    March - Spring break. Everyone is on vacation.
    April - Can be a good month but the rain can bring everyone down
    May - Good until the last 2 weeks, Graduation, summer starts, etc.
    June - August - Fugettaboutit! Vacations - nobody's out there buying!
    September - Can be a good month
    October -Budgets starting to get written - no more funds available
    November - December -Whose buying anything during the holidays?

    I have to admit I was one of those people who tried far too hard to LEARN before actually implementing. It was a huge mistake of mine. I tried to learn nearly every trade of online marketing without actually taking any action.

    I woke up one day and it hit me that I needed to actually put everything to work. And when I did, I didn't know NEARLY as much as I thought I did. The only way to properly learn is through experience.

    It's posts like these that make me love the WF. I am still not a full time IMer but I am certainly getting there by more hard work than I ever thought I was possible of. You get what you put in in this business.

      Yep, I was the same. You can't possibly figure out what you need to learn next until you get out there applying what you've already learned.

      Now I just keep moving and figure it out as I go. It works much better than studying the next cool thing to improve on the other cool things you've read about but haven't tried yet.

      I use to struggle with the exact same thing. I always wanted everything to be just perfect before I took action. I don't like to think of things only half the way through. I like to think of them being fully complete and in synchronization before I implement anything. I've now learned a lott more by applying, taking risks and losing money then I ever have trying to make everything work out perfectly in my favor. This was a real inspirational post you made John, thanks a lot for the valuable insight.

    Yup.

    It's pride and its selective hearing.

    and when people say "You might have to go through alot of trial and error", you pretend you didnt hear that.

    Lol.

    Im all about telling people there is a reason for the 80/20 rule... But you have to quit believing that the "20" are all just people who were born with silver spoons in their mouth, or who luckily found the "magic pill"....because for the most part, they are REALLY people who clawed their way through a TON of discouragement , and kept going when the proud people dropped off and said "Im too good for this".

    Amen, the great and powerfull John Durham has spoken...lol

    Somtimes the truth has to be said no matter if people want to hear it or not, they need to understand like you said there is no magic pill to becoming rich and successful.

    If people want something bad enough they will figure out a way to make it happen and will stop making up reasons why they can't do something and those are the type of people who will succeed and become wealthy or at least better off then then where when they started.

    Amen brother!!!

    Man I have missed being on the forums... What I wanted to do was forum marketing and learning all day while allowing others to run my biz... So instead of letting the pride I felt, you know - the pride of starting with nothing and building something that's makes killer money... Get in the way of continued successes and growth.

    I started working both on... And in my business. Not that I wanted to.

    I would rather hang out on the forums and help the new guy.... While my own businesses client attrition rate increases and I no longer focus so hard on new client acquisition processes and procedures which limit my growth because I am hanging out on forums all day.

    My better judgement finally got the best of me.

    I did what I did not "want" to do. I put my nose to the grind stone and practiced what Chet Holmes (the author) would call shear determination and discipline.

    After all. It was those two things that got me started in this business.

    Purchasing John Durhams Telemarketing War Report, then disciplining myself to do what I did not want to do.... Changed my life!!!

    Later... After seeing some success... Disciplining myself and doing what I did not want to do, changed the course of my business growth... The lives of my staff... And their families...

    Not to mention the lives of the people in that are helped by the non profit that I have been able to start which is a direct result of this forum, the telemarketing forum, and John Durham.

    This post is sooooo true. I used to be like this..complaining that every wso was too hard, had things left out, etc.. when I finally got tired (and broke) from buying wso's I took one that was easy enough to do and just did it. You have to step out of your comfort zone!! Stop trying to find the WSO that will tell you that you can get EVERY client through email only, never talking to them, etc...that's highly unlikely..You may get a few that way, but it's best to actually talk to these people to make sure they understand everything..especially your fees lol As far as not knowing how to hire commission only reps or instructing them..I just put up an ad for 2 phone reps on craigslist thursday and had 2 resumes' in my inbox by friday. You have to make the position appealing to them, you can't try and cheat them out of their $$ or like the saying goes..you get what you pay for..I offered commission only for 30 days, then base+commission..Explain the job to them as it was explained to you in your favorite WSO You MUST take action in order to be successful online (or off) because the saying *Money doesn't grow on trees* is actually true I used to have pretty much EVERY excuse that john stated in this post and if his post made you mad and not had you thinking *hey, he's right* then you are just looking for yet another excuse not to be successful. Being successful is a choice. You can get a lot of free information from this forum to start with nothing and make a good monthly income, but you may have to do some things you don't want to do!!

    Deidra, is another example of a person with the heart of an entrepreneur.

    I wont go into it, but she got fed up a week or two ago and just decided "Im gonna make this happen", and went out and got two clients!

    Wow. Already hiring people?

    You are on the ball...and Ill bet if they dont work out you are going to keep going too!

    Interesting thought... I thought about posting my whole business model with training videos, invoices, procedures, sales systems, project management systems, training systems for technical, training systems for customer service, handling contract systems, what to say, what not to say, etc.....

    But would not feel comfortable selling something like that for less than $10k +

    The value would be more than 100 times that... Every quarter. So it would be worth it. But I have too much heart, soul, and value into my systems to share with people who do not have what it takes to take my proprietary info, and run with it.

    Pick around over there and you will find what you are looking for I am sure.

    Hey John,

    Thanks for putting what we all think into words!!

    I am pretty new to the WF but have learnt sooooooo much since joining

    A few weeks ago i found myself trapped in a corner (money wise)...Things were looking bad and i had people around me saying "what are we going to do" "how did we manage to let things get so bad"....
    YES I wanted to join in and start blaming something or someone for what happened...but nope not me .... I too had bills to pay and mouths to feed .... so i sat up late one night and put something together .... a WSO that i picked up a while back and did nothing with ....

    Went out the next day and told myself i needed to earn xxxx amount

    I didnt hit the amount i was aiming for but i was very close to it.....

        Self motivation is harder than job motivation. Thats the most common reason for not succeeding at starting your own business. Just like the army can get a person in shape, but most people cant get through the power 90x program on their own.

        Its really the biggest culprit. lack of "self" motivation. Most can do alot of things for a boss that they cant bring themselves to do for themselves.


        Thats the biggest hurdle, we are trained to have slave mentalities. It has very little to do with ones actual "ability".

        lol I said this same exact thing a few weeks ago, then I got John's lead generation report and just did it! I was so used to email marketing and direct mail, but they do NOT produce the same results as telemarketing, they can as far as money, but not as fast..you can make money with telemarketing within a few HOURS! If you have to act like you're doing it for someone else and get in a *work* mindset, just do it..you'll be glad you did...then soon thereafter you can outsource your calls and never have to pick up a phone yourself again..Once you get used to it and actually making money, it's not that bad at all.

    John, this is probably the best post I've read on Warrior Forum. Sometimes people need to have a reality check and usually one of two things happens: 1) it puts them into gear or 2) causes them to make more excuses.

    I'm a big believer in thinking things through and developing a plan before implementation, but that is not an excuse to not execute. From my experience the best laid plans always veer off one way or another. There's always something that comes up that wasn't thought of or planned for and you just have to roll with the punches.

    I hear people ask a lot of what if's and let those what if's hold them back from ever executing. I live by the motto that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Give it a go and if you mess up, worry about it then... don't let the possibility of messing up stop you from giving it a go though.

    Anyway, fantastic post John!!

    Loved to read all the excuses - I think I have used them all - I kept looking for the easier, softer way - but to no avail LOL - now I do one step at a time and complete it
    When I find that I am getting out of focus mode - I get up, get away from the cmputer then comes ack and focus again

    what a true and full of motivation thread,
    there are always a lot of people who just complaining and are looking for excuses of their failure, but often there are no failure, because to fail, in first place you must to try to do something. and you are much less looser if you tried and failed, then you never tried something.
    now in my country are bad situation, big unemployment so people emigrate and the main reason they say that there are no prospects in our country. that makes me laugh. dose it really no prospects or just you haven't enough motivation to find them and use that prospects for your wealth?
    just there are a lot of people who have mindset that they are somehow better then others so somebody must give them everything they need. government must guarantee safety and social security, employers must give them a job, if they don't know something, somebody must come and tech them every thing and if they are to lazy to learn then somebody must do that for them and so on... but if it's true, than i have question for those people, are you vegetables or are you humans? because if you are vegetable, that is okay, you really need somebody to care of you all your life. but if you are human you must show that you have balls(not literally) to make decisions by your self, you must show that you are ready to get what you want, you must show that possibility of failure don't bother you, you must be ready to convince that your product or service is better then others or you are better then your competitors(when you look for job).
    and if you get NO, you shouldn't take that personally, you should learn from that, and other time represent yourself or your product/service in such way that there were no other option only to say YES.
    i have made decision to write my own success story. and i believe it's only meter of time. in half a year i failed three times and learned a lot of from that. first i were reading a lot, but no action. later the main thing was that i had techniques but didn't had strategy, always was looking for faster way. so few days ago i started everything from the beginning. the difference that now i have a plan and try to do everything what is need to be done, with out shortcuts. also i have goals, i know my step after first response, i know step after first sale, i know my step after i reach my first goal. first time after half a year i feel confident about what i doing, because i have plan. and that confidence gives me enough drive to stick to my plan, and i hope i will sea results of that soon.

    Some people will remain in port, tied up and safe , until the perfect day dawns, calm flat as a pancake seas, azure blue skies, not a breath of wind, then and only then will they dare to set sail, off they go out of the harbour....ahh but they cant can they, theres no wind, they cant move, theyve got the perfect day that theyve been waiting for and realised only then, too late, that its not perfection, it never is and it never will be.
    Just what have they been missing out on all that time they were waiting for something that will never come.

    That did actually make me laugh out loud. It takes a while for the penny (cent) to drop for most people John as I'm sure you're aware and many people, including myself have been very close to the edge before it did.

    When you're forced to take action or sink, you find out what you've got inside you.

    The real trick is to have that hunger without the desperate circumstances that so often go with it. To be able to burst out of a comfort zone and expose yourself to the danger of people saying yes or no to you.

      I relate Tony. Thats why posts like this are important, because you and I may not be around when the penny is about to drop for someone, but this post WILL be.
