Selling mobile websites

Hi guys,

I normally get some great advice from the forum so here goes again.

When selling mobile websites to local business how do you guys get over the following?

The main website has been designed by a web company therefore the business has paid for this to happen so why would they now want a mobile version and additional cost from me, surely I have planted the seed in their mind that they need to go mobile but the first thing they are likely to do is approach the company that created the original site so am I just not helping that company here as opposed to getting business for myself?

Any thoughts welcome

Thanks for any input.

Regards

Vince

  • first up if their web people were any good and cared about their clients, theyd already have been suggesting a mobile site, so if not thats plenty good enough reason to ditch them

Ask them what their web people have ever done for them, it can get a bit like the Monty Python Life of Brian Romans sketch if theyre great , but its more likely theyd have just done the site, basic seo and nothing more, so giving you opportunity to instantly upgrade you 'mobile webiste' offer to a more comprehensive totla marketing solution

  • Yeah i've have the same question once here on the forum.. but can't see to find it anymore..

Want to hear some thoughts also though
  • While a company may have built the site that does not mean they have a webmaster that manages their site.

In fact we find that over 80% do not have an active webaster. This is because a lot of these companies sell the website then move on. They sell off the hosting for an affiliate cheque and there gone

  • One would think that the same web company who designed the website would come back and sell them mobile site since they are already have credibility with them.

Wow! Such "Negativity"! All the "what ifs and whys"!

Geez-Louise! Their "regular web design co did NOT set up a Mobile Site for them"! WHY? Who knows! "Will the reg dsign co come BACK to do a Mobile Site? Who Knows! WHo Cares?

Just give your prospect a Call and tell the Owner that...

      1) Their website CAN'T be seen very well on a Mobile Phone
      2) They are possibly LOSING business not having a Mobile Site
      3) YOU...have created a "Sample Mock-Up" site and you'd like to SHOW it to them
      4) Go for a TIME when you can SHOW them Site you've created

Note: You do NOT create a Sample Mock-Up UNLESS you get an Apptmt

Then...go in with a sample 1 page Mock-Up Mobile Site (using Quentin's program)....find out WHAT they would like on the Final....collect a deposit and you're off and running on a Very Profitable New Career.

      Don Alm....

  • I've found that calling a mobile website a "mobile web app" is a great way to get around having their existing designers do the work. Everybody knows a website designer, but nobody knows a mobile web app designer. Throw in a QR Code that links to the "mobile web app" and you've got a full package to sell to your potential client.
