I've been so lazy but I finally decided to send 108 direct mails yesterday.
And today I got 5 call back. From what I've tested before this is exactly what I expected. I expect another 4-5 calls tomorrow and the next day. I get about 25% call back conversion.
First call was from a chiropractor who wanted more information. I told him i'll send him a quick video analysis of his website and how we can better his marketing... told him no strings attached and if he's interested, give me a call. (will send the video out tomorrow)
Second call was a lady who didn't seem interested so I excused myself. (i don't like wasting my time with people who aren't interested in my service) Why pitch to someone who's not interested? waste of my time and energy.
Third call was from a spa and told me that they already have an in house internet marketing person. I told her "cool, that's awesome you know the value of internet marketing. since you already know how vital internet marketing is to your business, do you know anyone who might need my service?" she said most are her competitors and her friends so i asked her if she had any friends outside of her city. she said yea so I told him her I'll send her a quick email. (will send that over tomorrow)
Fourth call was from a restaurant. He liked me from the spot. Wants to get together tomorrow. (most likely going to close him tomorrow)
Fifth caller already had text message marketing going for him and he said it works great. He was interested in my service and asked for price so I told him I'll send him a quick video and if he found it interested, give me a call. (will send that over tomorrow)
I'm going to rush this since I have a dinner date with my mom.
Basically, I have them call me back from a direct mail. And after that I send the ones who are interested a quick 5 minute video analysis how we can better their marketing. If they call, GREAT. if not, i'll have my assistant follow up with them.
The reason for this is because when I first got started I wasted so much of my time trying to meet with everyone. I kinda liked it because more face to face meeting I get, the better I get at closing but I don't have the time and energy anymore. Plus, some are 1-2 hour driving distance. I send my direct mail to people in my city and the nearby cities.
Anyways, my point of this post is that you should be doing direct mails. Do something what others aren't doing. I also prefer to hit the street if you're a newbie or hire a guy to send out your brochures. DO SOMETHING OTHERS AREN'T DOING!
Direct Mail ---> Call back ----> Appointment or Email them ----> Appointment or Close them through email -------> Close

UPDATE: Day 2
Went out and met up with the person I set appointment for. He already has a web designer (he loves her job) so we decided to go with email marketing.
He already had 300 email lists he collected from his customers. It included name, email address, what they liked about the store, and etc.
He wanted my seo service but I told him let's work on this first and with the money he makes we can reinvest it in seo service. I wanted to really bang out his email list and show him that he'll make tons of money from it so he can invest more money working with me.
So we settled at $500/month + $100 to have my assistant type up the email list.
I left my direct mail phone at home. I'm sure I got about 4-10 calls. I'll follow up with them tomorrow.
UPDATE: Day 3
I got 9 missed calls from yesterday. one was a same number calling twice so that's 8 new people. I still didn't call them back. let's hope that i'll call them back tomorrow. (my laziness is what slows my business down)
Anyways, I got 2 incoming calls today.
Guy 1 said he has email marketing, website being built by friday, and his friend was suppose to come in to sell him sms marketing but they got busy so the meeting didn't happen yet. I told him that i'm surprised and he's doing a great job. I told him I'll send him a quick video analysis of his website and he said he'll appreciate it. he also told me to check it after friday since that's when the website is being done.
Guy 2 said he does email marketing, sms marketing, direct mail marketing. And he said his season just ended but have me in mind for next year. (he ain't calling me next year) haha but i did take his email address and will follow up with him with a video analysis. i tell them no strings attach and they really appreciate it. I tell them "if you can find some value you in it, GREAT."
