Question about the rent-a-site model

Hey Warriors,

For those of you who have built sites and leased them:

Once you have the client, do you customize the site with their branding, name, etc.

Or do you keep it somewhat generic with a phone number you control forwarded to the client's office? (Like this one: Houston Discount Roofing Contractors - Emergency Roof Repairs 713-242-1651)

These sorts of sites are used primarily to generate leads, rather than act as the de facto site for the client, right?

Thanks!

My recommendation is to keep it somewhat generic, so that you can change it out easily. That doesn't mean you can't include their branding or anything like that, but make sure that you don't spend so much time that if they decide to cancel you are going to have to completely rebuild the site.

      Thanks, Ben.

How about the rest of you?

I definitely customize the client sites that I lease with their info, images and logos.

This causes them to take more ownership of the site and remain lifelong clients. I think that if they see it just another lead building tool, then they'll be more prone to quit.

Also, of the 20 or so sites that I lease, I've had 2 quit on me.

    Hope that helps.

The first one I did it was generic. Every there after has been customized. Custom header. Their logo on the page. And a picture of them in the right side bar with an about me or about us description. Easy stuff to replace if they leave.

I have done them both ways.

Sometimes I use the generic theme.

Sometimes I will make them the site from my clone and then just add their logo and info and sell them the site.

Sometimes I dont even touch a site and just offer the monthly service and use their existing site.

But every single time I still set them up on the monthly service.

It will also depend on who you target as well.
