Hi

Can someone viewing a site, via their mobile device, that has a QR code on it (eg lets say someones avatar on here is a QR code) they cant scan it of course cos the phone doesnt bend , so can they or is there a way they can click on the QR code and get the same result .

Lets say youre looking at a restaurants mobile site on your smartphone and on the site is a QR code inviting you to scan it for a coupon , youre on your own so cant use your partners phone, you cant scan it cos its already on your phone screen, how do you use it, can QR codes be clicked/ tapped to be activated or is that something for the future ?

  • A QR Code is just a graphic so of course you can also link to any page you like without scanning it just like any graphic.

    • This is exactly right... just use code like this: <a href="www.yoursite.com"><img src="www.yoursite.com/qrcode.jpg"></a>

Jason is right though, there is no reason to put a QR Code within a mobile site because the user should have already scanned the code to get to the mobile site.

  • I have only seen one QR code on a mobile site that actually worked well.

The QR code was designed to be 'Shared' from one phone to another. "Show this code to your friends and have them scan it with their phones to get a great deal for both of you!" and took the user to the companies Mobile Facebook page Like Gate.

Not only was the company giving out affiliate prizes with groups of people with Smart Phones, but they were also capturing prospect data with the like gate.

Whoever their Marketing guy was, he was right on the ball with that one.
