"Quick Cash" - $360 A Day Taking Pictures

I just had lunch with a guy who wanted to show me the results of his last 2 weeks "venture". Whala! Success!

A few wks ago, he phoned and asked me if I could help him earn some money. He said he had been selling cars until they closed down and that he knew a "little" about the internet.

So....I told him to come on over. I found that he had a Digital Camera and enjoyed taking pictures. So....I decided to show him how to make some "quick Bux" with his camera.

Here's what I told him;
Almost EVERY restaurant spends lots of money on their INTERIORS... however....no one SEES their interiors until they're INSIDE the restaurant. So...I came up with a way to "Show Interiors to people OUTSIDE the restaurants....by making a Video which could be seen on their website and other Video sites.

When I started this biz....a couple of years ago, I asked a restaurant owner I knew, if I could "take a few pictures" of his place and make a Video at NO obligation. He agreed, so I snapped some shots....went home and used PhotoStory3 to make a Video....then burned it to a DVD. I then remembered that Wally World had a Portable DVD Player (Phillips - $80)

So...armed with my Sample DVD and the Portable DVD Player...I went into a restaurant....plopped the Player down on a table and showed the owner my Sample DVD. Then told him I'd like to make up a similar DVD for HIS restaurant....that he could put on his website, etc....at NO obligation.

He said, "Go Ahead!" I then snapped about 10 shots, went home & made a Video with PS3....burned it to a DVD and went back to show him.

He LOVED IT! I then told him I usually charge $495 for the DVD and to upload it to 27 Video Sites (Tube-Mogul)....however...I'd only charge him $360...if he decided....NOW!

He agreed and wrote me a check for $360. I then proceeded to make a bunch of videos for other restaurants and OTHER types of businesses.

I took my friend to a restaurant that had recently opened....went in.... showed the owner my Sample DVD....asked if I could take some shots and told him I'd make up a Video for him....at NO Obligation.

He said, "Go Ahead! Let's see what you come up with!"

Whammo...Bammo....took some shots...went home and made a Video with PS3....burned it to a DVD...went back and plopped the Player down on the end of the bar where he was sitting...let it run and BANGO, BONGO...he LOVED IT.

$360

So...I loaned my guy my Portable DVD Player...showed him how to make the Videos with PS3 (or Movie-Maker) and burn them...and....let him go On His Own.

So...he "bombed" the first couple of times BUT....started to get "the hand of it" so that now...anytime he wants...he "Barges Into" a restaurant (or other biz)(I was surprised how many different types of businesses he sold. He just finished coming from a Plumber...and last week he did a Roofer)

So....I thought I'd share this with you folks as an example of what can be done...starting with little money.

Don Alm

"Hey Don, It's time to get an LCD screen"
      by Maricilou"

Regarding this comment to my Article. This is a post about the "quality" of what's on my article. I usually don't respond to these types of comments....because they have NOTHING to do with the CONTENT of the material presented....here...on THIS Forum.

HOWEVER....I'm responding to THIS comment to attempt to "educate" and possibly give INSIGHT to others....into the "REAL WORLD" of "Sales".

      Re: My NOT using an "LCD Screen";

I have made HUNDREDS of sales....with a NAPKIN presentation... while having a lunch meeting with a Prospect...who turned into a CLIENT after seeing what I wrote down on a common ordinary.... NAPKIN!

And...when I started selling my programs with VIDEOS....waaay back in the "80's"....when I used my old TAPE CamCorder to record my Videos (with 2 Clamp-On FloodLights)....I did NOT even try and lift MY Videos UP a notch or 2...in the "Quality" area, by calling them, "GUERILLA" Videos.

Nope....I called MY Videos...."JUNGLE" Videos! And....my first "Jungle" Video....sold over 2,500 COPIES at $300 each! ("FaxBux") Then, my 2nd "Jungle" Video (Midas Reports) sold over 5,000 copies at $95 ea. Plus, 3 others after these.

My point here is....it is the QUALITY OF THE CONTENT presented that counts!

I could present MY material on "Parchment Paper" or Toilet Paper...and STILL....get sales...because it's the "CONTENT" that COUNTS!

Don Alm.....NOT concerned about HOW my stuff is presented!

Ohhh....I've done ALL my Sales Videos myself and have had MANY "professionals" "suggest" that I use a "professional" announcer. Once, I DID have a "Professional" Marketing Co put together a "Top Quality" video with a "Pro-Announcer" and....on a 1/2 & 1/2 Test.....sales of the "Pro" videos were 1/4th the sales on my "Jungle" videos.

Holy Schamoly! I am NOT..."selling" anything here! I am simply tossing out some of the programs I've done SUCCESSFULLY over my vast career of "Idea Programs"...that have been SUCCESSFUL for ME!

I am NOT...trying to ....sell YOU....or anyone else....on BUYING this program...or any other program. I am SIMPLY...presenting "IDEAS"!

I am sorry...if the stuff I toss up here...."is not healthy" to "your" eyes!

Don, I don't think you are trying to sell me something and I do enjoy your posts from this forum and some others. My mention about having an LCD screen (instead of that left-bottom monitor) was just a non-formal response to a detail I saw on your pic (again, I mean it is far more healthier to me and to you having an LCD which protects our eyes, u just missunderstood my posts I think). I appreciate your contribution to us and I have nothing more to say than just to thank you!

Wow! As a photo buff, myself, I loved your idea!

If one has to question whether or not sharing a good idea on this forum will create such a backlash of painful remarks, it may just begin to limit the creativity of this group.

I, for one opt-in for great POSITIVE feedback...whether or not the giver agrees with my ideas, or offerings. Bashing, in my world is not positive!

Thanks again for your great idea!:p

Don, I went the Marche Restaurant's website and the video is not there. Are they just not using it anymore? Was this the first one you did for a restaurant?

This is a great idea though. I just did a website for a catering client and rather than have pictures (i.e. slideshow) on the home page, I fired up my Serious Magic software, Audacity to record audio, and put together a video "commercial" for the home page. Client said it was "amazing", but it only took me about 15 minutes to complete. There are so many businesses that this would work for. Even charging $97 each, you could do 4-5 of these a day and make some good money.

I used a flooring place the other day for some carpeting, and noticed that there website had a video that was put together by YellowBook. Its OK, but they have a Yellow Book ad at the end of the video! Pretty tacky. Does anyone know what Yellow Book charges to do a video like this for a client?

Excellent idea on the video, Don. (The music was a little bit much, and the quality of the video should have been higher to be a good promotional video), but man, what a quick and easy way to make a promotional, searchable youTube video for a client.

THIS "Sample Video" was one of my VERY FIRST....SAMPLES!....that got me STARTED....in a Nice INCOME producer.

The Video I placed here was NOT DESIGNED TO "SELL" ANYONE...... HERE!!!

I don't know what your point is in commenting about the "QUALITY" of the Photos or Videos I post here!

These were NOT made to "SELL"....Viewers....on THIS Forum!
        (Excuse my shouting!)

As I mentioned in another article....I've sold MY Stuff on "Napkins" and "Jungle" Videos!!!! If you have a "Hot Concept" and know how to present it and CLOSE the deals.....you don't need "Quality"! "Quality" can come later with UPdates.

Just curious... Exactly HOW does this help the restaurant owner increase his profits?

I think this sounds good in principle, but maybe I am not seeing exactly the benefit to the business owner.

What does creating the video, uploading to his website, and submission to Tubemogul do to help the business owner other than stroking his/her ego or having a video on the Web?

I suggested doing the same thing for a business owner and their first question to me was "How is this going to increase my profits?"

Maybe I am a skeptic, but it seems you would have to do other work for them to get them higher ranking in the search engines and part of that may only be temporary. How many additional customers would that bring them?

I think the main idea was to show the interiors of those restaurants, not trying to get them higher rankings...

Showing interiors might actually increase or ...decrease the number of patrons

          Additional clarification:

The question: WHY would businesses, especailly restaurants, PAY to have a Video made?

          I thought maybe someone would come up with the answer so....here's Part of the answer;

You create a "Video Directory" so that local consumers (especially Tourists) can View the Videos. You make up a couple of Sample Vids to give prospects an idea of what your "Video Directory" looks like.

The businesses can also use the Vids to get them better ranking.

I can tell you from personal experience with this concept that it helps the business owner.

How will it increase profits? Depends on the business and you need to have the answer based on their situation. It's what you do to engage the site visitor and get them to act that determines the profitability. Coupons, free offers, etc.

As part of an integrated strategy, you can get multiple listings on page one for a business for several sweet keywords. I've gotten clients 7 of 10 of the first page listings with video using pixelpipe to distribute the video to multiple video sharing sites.

If you add a well-optimized site, some decent SEO and articles, etc., it's very possible to get 14+ listings on the first couple pages

There are many ways people look for new restaurants. This can be one of them. One can see what the inside looks like, maybe how the food looks, get an idea of the ambience, hey, maybe even a testimonial or two for social proof.

And a few new satisified customers can bring in a few more word of mouth clients.

That's how this is useful to owners (besides stroking their own egos.)

I have skipped over restaurants that didn't have pics of the inside from doing online searches, because too many times THE WEBSITE ITSELF WAS BEAUTIFUL - then you get there and it's a different story.

It could very well work, but it doesn't excite me so I'm not going to do it.

So many of our posts on here assume that business owners are idiots. Oh my, they'll be blown away by this video I put together! Bust out your checkbook

Decent camera + decent editing software = 720p video they can be proud of.

Want to really blow them away? Set a meeting for a mobile website and bring your camera. If they are game for the site, say you want to take a few pics you can put on it. Put a couple on the site, and put this video together for them. Then deliver the website and the video, and pitch them Don's upsell.

      If I may "RE-Iterate" about ALL of the "Samples" I offer here;

Thus....the Videos and Photos I place in this Forum are NOT....For Sale! They are NOT...what I used to SELL......Nor are they to be looked at as "EXACT" duplicates of what "Dumb" business owners have bought!!

The Samples I place here....have NOT been Sold to anyone! They are simply that... SAMPLES of what I started with.

It is UP TO YOU....to take the "Biz Promo Programs" and the Sample I offer and....guess what?

I don't understand a few of you. The op gave a good post and a great idea. Leave it at that.

The idea will work. Restaurants and many other businesses need photos for publicity and promotional pieces. This is another way of doing it.

Haven't any of you been to the movie theater and seen some of the local business ads with slide show photos? I have. Or late night TV when ad rates are so cheap that a business owner can put a 30 second slide show on promoting his business? There are many ways to utilize this idea.

If you don't like the quality of his show, then make your own. I just can't believe you guys are worrying about the quality of a video and completely missing the point of the post.

I don't know about cold calling, but I have a niche market that likes slide shows for conventions and trade shows. They send us their pictures and we send them either the video clip in HD, SD and web friendly formats or on DVD (S&H) for $197. So far we've done 10 of these for clients across the country. We are still working on a fair price point, some have said it's too high, but the ones who paid for it were very happy with it. I would post a clip but I gotta protect my niche. Just saying, lay people will pay for things they don't know how to do. Marketers on the other hand, will not.

photodex proshow produces great looking slide shows. Use the wizard to make a slide show quickly. If there are good quality photos on the website, to download the photos using neodownloader. Both these software applications have a 30 day trial.

It is also possible to produce interactive shows, great if you have an ipad or tablet. The interactive feature will not work on a website, it needs to be installed on the pc / tablet , via an .exe file or CD.

So make a slide show for a business, put it on a cd and then give it to client. From the show can be links to websites / facebook pages etc. I suggest that a basic slide show is made , with options to upgrade to include captions / video clips. The video can be watermarked.

The show is also an opportunity to promote your services to the client.

I know that because I've done just exactly that look through a window to see if I want to eat in this restuarant. And it's a great idea too, don't know why some of you warriors cannot take the idea and produce your own spin on at your own locations.

Offline marketing is not my area but there's so many good ideas on the forum to explore.

Thankyou midasman09 for sharing this with us.

This thread is a riot! This is a great post. Some of the comments only serve to discourage the newbies.

Business owners are not stupid to pay for this service. They need it. Just because I own an oven and a set of cutlery doesn't imply that I'm stupid for going to a restaurant to dine..

Anyhow, I'm not sure how an LCD screen is related to health, and there are some of us who actually like Zapruder's work.

Here's an idea for public adoration/scorn: load the vid onto a digital frame so that the business can easily showcase your vids. Charge for the upgrade, or loan it/give it to them in exchange for allowing you to tastefully place your contact info on the frame, or a short tag at the end of the vid. If you aren't sure what frames will play vid files, check out this website.

Don, thanks for the post. These ideas always get my wheels turning. This ranks near the top for "ease of foot-in-the-door."
