How DO I Issue AN Invoice?

by Qamar

I have a client who just emailed me asking me to send an invoice to them. This is for the 50 percent deposit that their company is paying me via a company's check.

The question is, what kind of invoice should I send?

Anyone has any sample of invoice that you guys send online?

I have an invoice from a WSO that I purchased recently. Can this kind of invoice be used?

We use an online invoicing company to send all our invoices and keep control of accounts.

LOL! I can't afford to that yet. Anyway I look up at Google and grab a reasonable looking template and managed to send it just now....

Hey Quentin, thanks for this great info! I think Freshbook is very good but Billing Boss is even better!

Freshbooks is pretty professional looking I would go with that, free for your first 3 clients forever and can keep track of your profit and expenses. After that you will easy be able to cover the $20 a month.

Checked out billing boss and you could get by with it, but to be honest I would rather pay for something a bit better.

          Quentin,

You've been around for a while. Is there a reason you choose BillingBoss over Freshbooks or is it just personal preference?

If you can't afford it yet you can use a microsoft template that comes with word.

Just go to PayPal.com and sign up for a business account. Their invoicing is easy to use and the payment goes right into your account.

I have used them for several years.

I was going to post a recommendation... I simply send them an estimate, collect them 50%, and then apply the 50% as a discount against the final invoice. But I realllllly like this freshbooks everyone's going on about. I think I'm going to make that happen.

One of my fav. online invoice generator and billing software is Freshbooks, it allows you to generate the invoice, email it to the client, add payments directly to the invoice and export it as a PDF. Really easy to use and it's free (if you have less than 3 clients to manage).

Freshbooks gets my vote too. They're awesome.

On the other hand, you can get a invoice template from Microsoft for Word and that works too.

I use Freshbooks whenever invoicing a client with Socialfrogs

I haven't had one problem with them and the invoices are automatically generated according to the information you input.

Paypal's invoices are professional enough for you just starting out and it's free and you don't need a business account. I didn't have one when I first started and sent invoices out with no problem. I believe you can put your own logo on them also, I never tried but I think they have that option available.

Well Billingboss is part of the sage accounting business and is world wide.

Personally I don't think it matters too much however I was looking for something simple that would do recurring for my agents and it fulfills our need and love the ability to write in the description because as you know if sending a client an invoice quite often it is not enough to say hosting ow website.

Yes Freshbook look prettier than Billing Boss in terms of appearance, but for a start Billing Boss is good enough for me because of it's simplicity. I like simple looking layout and functionality and most important it gets the job done.

Thanks to all who have given me many alternatives.
