"Holiday Bonus Cards" bring Quick Cash

We're getting ready for another "Christmas Season". This is one program I created a few yrs ago and it's STILL viable....in fact, with the economy down like it is....Employers will REALLY go for this now!

The "Holiday Bonus Card" can help employers create some "Good Will" over the coming Holiday Season.

Employers buy these Cards for $10 ea and give them to their employees (in an Envelope of their choosing or they can use mine...which comes with each Bonus Card)

And....whenever employees use the Card....they REMEMBER their Employer!

I've included the Merchant Sales Sheet I use to persuade businesses to participate. So...take a look and see if you can use it to make YOUR Christmas a little brighter!

This program has enabled 2 single moms to have a pretty good Christmas the last few yrs. They simply go down the street and visit Biz Owners or HR Depts of Corps... show the Card Sales Sheet and a Sample Card and ask... "How Many would you like"!

Hi Don, Great ideas. 10 minutes after reading this, my brother called to firm up times for getting together this weekend. He is the regional marketing director for a chain supermarket. I told him about this and he said they would be interested, maybe like giving a $10.00 gift card. His only concern was people making same paper color copies. I, of course, mentioned expirations but he said they could get banged real hard in a veey short period of time. Have you run up against this and if so, how did you remedy it?

    Hi rideotm,

I've seen cards like these before and the ones I've seen were not made of paper so it would cost money for someone to "counterfeit" them. Well I guess it cost money to counterfeit anything, but you see what I mean. The ones I saw were like plastic cards kind of like the rewards cards for grocery stores. I'm not sure what Don's are of course.

You could also just use heavy stock business cards, have Holiday Bonus Money Saver Card printed on one side and the discounts printed on the other.

I guess with any of these ideas if someone wanted to make paper color copies they still could, but I don't think your brother would have to worry about it.

Don thanks again for a great idea ! I have a question about how you approach the chains like McDonalds and Burger King. Do you go through the manager ? area manager? are these franchise locations only or corporate owned ?

hey rideotm maybe he should change the offer from a $10 gift card to a percentage off or buy one get one to make sure money is actually spent, but I would take whatever Dons advice would be that was just my suggestion.

Good question, I am wondering about approaching those chain places too. If Don doesn't get back with an answer I'm going to just go to a few and ask myself and I'll report back here what I find.

Holy Schamoly....I'm sorry! I just clicked back in to see what kinda questions came up and...WOW....I'm sorry....the 3 questions presented here were from folks who...maybe don't know what happens in the "Real" world!

      Again...I'm sorry! I realize that MOST of the folks here have NOT been on "The Field of Battle" as I've been for ALL my career. And...when I hear questions like;

      1) I have a question about how you approach the chains like McDonalds and Burger King.
Well...the VERY FIRST TIME I ever contacted McDonald's was back in my Chicago days (when I started my FIRST biz (burglar alarms) I phoned Mickey D's headquarters (in a suburb of Chgo, Aurora...they're STILL there!) and asked to speak to the person in charge of SECURITY. Well...since they were just setting up their new "Hamburger University" (Training for new franchisees)...I asked the "Security Mgr" if I could present a BID on a "Security System" for their Facility.

Guess what? The "Security Mgr" tells me to...."Come on in, tomorrow at 11am!" WOWEE! WHOPPEE FIZZ! You kiddin me? The HEAD of the Mickey D's SECURITY tells little ol' ME....a guy who had just started up a Burglar & Fire Alarm biz....that I could COME IN....to SEE him... at a certain Appointed TIME! You Kiddin' ME? You betcha...I was gonna be there at the Time HE said!

And....the result was....MY....newly formed Corp (staring with $6,000 in my NEW Bank Account! Less...$100 for an "Attorney Friend" to do the Corporate Stuff)....GOT THE JOB!

You talk about EXCITEMENT! I was OVERCOME! And....that job led to MANY other jobs (Hey! If MY company was accepted by Mickey D's...why should ANYONE question ME?)

      So...excuse me for diverging back to the past BUT...that's what I do. So, back to the question at hand;
I just pick up my DESK PHONE and dial....McDonald's or Burger King or Taco Bell or Subway or Sonic or Little Caesar's or Dominos...etc...and ask the person who answers; "Hi! Is this a Corporate or Franchisee Store?"

When I hear, "Franchise"....I then ask, Is the Franchisee IN?...etc"

The result being...with ONE phone cal to my local Mickey D's I discover the NAME of the Franchisee and....she gives me the Phone # of the Office. I phone the office and ask for "Gary!".... "Gary" comes on and I tell "Gary" what I'm doing and "Gary" says"...."Count Me IN!"

      2) I've seen cards like these before and the ones I've seen were not made of paper so it would cost money for someone to "counterfeit" them.

Holy Schamoly! My Cards are 16pt...double side FULL COLOR. There has never been a problem with someone trying to "pass" these off to get the Deals! However....if they were to make up "Counterfeit Cards" would MY sponsors MIND....if they brought in a "Piece of Paper" with..."$10 OFF a set of TWO tires!"...or any of the other offers?

C'mon! Thanks for asking the question BUT...apparently you did NOT look at the offers on the Card! ANY....of my sponsors would PROBABLY honor a piece of "toilet paper" with their Offer on it! WHY? Because EVERY offer involves the "Presenter" to reach into his/her pocket and PRODUCE CASH!

      3) maybe he should change the offer from a $10 gift card to a percentage off or buy one get one to make sure money is actually spent,

You TOTALLY MISSED the "Concept"! I SELL the Cards to employers for TEN BUX! On the Card (they buy for their employees as a GIFT) are "Discount Offers" from local biznesses.

Excuse me folks...."Beam Me Up Scottie!"

Thanks guys, good ideas...I am thinking if the $10 off is tied to being used with a purchase of say $25 or $50 it would eliminate most of the benefits to counterfiet

I'm not sure what you mean by the $10 off. Could you clarify?

In the jpeg above it's a card with multiple discounts to different places. The price of the card itself is $10.

One of the offerings, on the $10 card, would be a $10 off coupon for the grocery store.

Ooooh okay I see what you're saying. Sorry I'm a little slow sometimes. I just realized you were talking about your brother actually participating on the card lol.

So yeah he'd still have the potential counterfeiters out there, but the counterfeiters would still spend money at his stores to use the discount just as someone with a real card.

The idea you said about a minimum purchase would be good. It could even be worded as "40% off at Publix!" with a $10 maximum value if he was to go with the $25 threshold. I guess it depends on which his market finds more attractive, 40% off or $10 off $25.

    Hey Don,

Thanks for your reply. We weren't knocking this idea at all. We were answering a question on the thread.

Actually I misunderstood his question at first, but his brother who does the marketing for a grocery chain was asking about counterfeiting. I actually eventually gave the same answer you just did when I realized what the real question was. I agree that it is highly unlikely that it would be counterfeited, but even if it was it would still bring the businesses money of course so what do they care lol.

And about the last comment on the $10 gift card, he was actually addressing the grocery store marketing question again. Not your actual card. He was talking about the offer the grocery store would do on the card.

I think we understood your concept pretty well. It's pretty straightforward. We definitely appreciate you sharing it with us. We were just answering questions from someone who's brother does marketing for a grocery store chain.

Awesome story about Hamburger University too!! Thanks for that tidbit!

Hey Conrad thanks for explaining, you knew exactly what I was saying. Don thanks for answering, as for the response to my question about contacting chains, well your right. I felt like I could just answer my own question by taking action and calling myself. I do not have experience and I am still in the prep phase (knowing what the heck I'm talking about, and actually being able to do it). So I guess it's just comforting for me to ask questions of vets who may have insight. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet make mistakes and learn from them, you've been more than generous in providing strategies, time to start putting in work for myself. Thanks again.

Selling employee discount cards to employers to use to give to their employees to say thanks for a job well done and to let their employees know you value them is just great business sense and a great business idea.

I myself sell my pizza discount cards to local business owners to give to their employees at christmas time, birthdays, etc.

My discount cards are printed on 16pt. card stock, full color, double sided, round corners and uv coated.

I sell my pizza cards to employers for $5 or less each pizza card depending on the number of pizza cards they order. I have never been able to get an employer willing to pay full price $10 per discount card, as Don Alm says he is able to do, so more power to him.

One of the main reasons why the discount card business is so profitable right now, is the fact that the economy is low and many people are out of work or are working for peanuts and offering a product that saves people money will always be a winner.

    All the best,

    Martin

Thanks for this very informative thread. I have a couple questions.

        1. How do you contact the people you sell to? Phone, direct mail, visit?
        2. Who do you ask for at the companies you sell to? Human resources?

Thanks for the benefit of your experience.

Everyone that is asking questions, take note. You are over analyzing the simplicity of this entire concept. Walk in to X businesses with a sample (like the picture provided, but with your own information), and a quick description of how the process works. Each of those X businesses are going to get excited and jump on the idea, even if it costs them...
Once you have your X offers, contact each of those businesses again, and Y other Businesses in the area. This time, show a sample of your card with the actual discounts inserted. Give the informational sheet to business owners and explain your pricing.
When you're done telling Y businesses that you have no exrta spaces on the ad at this time (Which will lead to more card ideas...), you can count how many cards you need and have them printed out. Walk the cards in, or mail them with a "Thank You", and include another way to advertise...

You can't over complicate this. It's as simple as "Get the Discounts", "Sell the Cards", "Print and Deliver".

Oh, and if you haven't done it already, I highly suggest going to Midasmans previous posts and read up on many of his other amazing ideas.

    To Midasman,

Thanks once again for the epic idea. 10 out of 5 stars!
