Hi

My listing on Google places has been created, it is 100% completed, verified, and conforms to all the 'correct' rules about how to succeed with a Places listing.

However, last week I changed the telephone number from a cell number to a landline office number, as I expected people would be more likely to call a landline number.

Unfortunately now my listing is not showing up on Places when I search.

Can anyone tell me how long it will take to get back on the results page for Places with my listing? Or if there is anything I need to do, bearing in mind that before I changed the number the listing was relatively successful.

Thank you for your time.

Had you changed your number too?

30-60 days is a very long length of time. I was getting business from my Places listing so it's hitting me financially a little bit too. I take it there's no way to speed the process up?

I wouldn't bother; it's a terrible system to have to wait 60 days. A better solution would be to be able to re-validate after changing the number or address. Being removed from Places altogether for 60 days is ridiculous.

Kind of funny how you say it was 100% correct, then in the next sentence you say you used a cell phone number (which is not 100% correct way to do a listing)

Changes can take days, week or even months depending on how Google interprets the changes. And that could also depend on external factors like which number is associated with the business on the citation sites across the web. Changing those can take days/weeks/months too depending how tyou change all those.

Did Google ask you to re-verify your listing? I believe that's the procedure when you change your business name, address or phone number.

I seem to recall that Linda Buquet (she's a member here) may have had a workaround where you simply go to the Google Places dashboard and use the "Edit" FEATURE. Use the backspace button to delete whatever you want and then insert your updated details.

It may be too late for you since your listing has disappeared but may be useful for future reference, if proven to be accurate.

Hi Josh, thanks, good to know you read my blog.

That advice only works on minor edits NAP edits like changing Dr. John Smith to John L Smith DDS. Or changing #101 to Suite 101. It won't work for a phone # change or a complete address change when a business moves. Those changes always require mail verification.

The GOOD news is that likely in time the local number will help you rank higher. That's the number G wants you to use and thats the one that likely has the most citations. It will just take several weeks for all the citations to get credited to the Place page (assuming it's a mature biz that has some).
