The power of referall business is insane indeed.

It always amazes me how people will talk about your services to a few people when they love what you have done for them ... BUT ... if your services were less than satisfactory they WILL tell EVERYONE

Just this morning I was finishing up a floor job at a local business and got talking to the manager about the new shine we just laid on the floor and asked her to rate it, shameless I know, I know...but I needed her to be happy.

She told me how much she would love to get the floors looking "like new" at a building where she does alot of charity work. I informed her we could easily do it for them, she informed that as much as she would love to get it doene, they can't afford to. The problem is that they are basically getting by with donations from the public and alot of people are leaving due to the fact that the floors look horrible.....so off we went to look.

The site is just under 11,000 sq ft. Which would normally cost about $2,000 based on the state its in....as we were looking around we got talking about all of the people who are involved, the parents etc, etc and I realized that this is an awesome referall.

Do the job for free, (I can claim it as a write off later).
Make the place as shiny as possible, gonna need a lot of wax.
Leave a card and flyer.
Make a video of us doing the cleanup.

Most Importantly, leave a contest box for other charities to put their info in for a freebie in 6 months.

Leave a box for business owners to leave comments in (Mailing List).

And follow up every 3 months to do a bit of up keep at this site.

Just by offering to do the job this morning, I have already got 3 (paying) jobs for next week. Simply because we agreed to do a chartitable freebie. Imagine how many more referalls we might get!!!

The more we give, the more we get....

We can always find creative ways to make sales and money, but when you build relationships, you make long term sales and that's what really matter for all of us.

Thoughts?

If this charity has a mailing that they send out by mail or email, a newsletter or monthly report to contributors or something like that, encourage them to give you a mention (plug) about your service as a contribution in the next mailing (maybe with your logo or photos). Would make a good story for them to get in other such sevice donations and could well provide you with even more referrals.

    Cheers!

      Nice idea SendCards ....

You always add value to my thinking, seriously, that tip alone will definitely bring up (at the very least) some enquiries, plus this time of year everyone wants their floors redone due to winter approaching....

I am sending out an email and making the phone call straight away.

      Great advice as always!!

      Cheers Mate

Your welcome NC, one more idea???

For fun, you should get one of those "Wet Floor" signs and change it a little to something like, "This Floor is NOT Wet! - It only looks that way!" "Quality High Gloss Floor Polishing by Northern Canadian Floor Service"

Place that in a high traffic area at the charity with a take one brochure for a few days after each touchup...

        Just trying to contribute.....

        Cheers!
