IT Support Guy gave me a $3800 Project! - Met him on Craigslist!

Hey Warriors,

A few months back I was on browsing the "computer gigs" section of Craigslist and I saw an ad "Looking to partner with Web design/SEO Company".

I responded to the ad - told him I own a web design/seo company, showed him my portfolio and told him I'm Local. He emailed me back an hour later and was interested in knowing more about me. We exchanged a few emails, spoke on the phone, and finally met to discuss business. He owns an IT support company and has lots of clients. He's already referred me a $3800 web design project. He plans on referring his clients web design/seo needs to my company. I would give him a % on each client.

My advice Warriors: Check out the Computer Gigs section of Craigslist in your local city or other online sites and look for potential partnership opportunities like this!

Thanks,
Ahmad

Maybe we're cold calling the wrong people. Maybe we should be cold calling IT guys and accountants etc. and be creating referral contracts!!!!

Sigh- that's only what I have been saying for years. It makes no sense to spend your time and effort marketing to clients directly when it only takes one or two really good centers of influence to really get all the business you can handle.

        Marcos,

That's what I've been doing the last few months...call on other professionals that directly deal with biz owners...have them refer business to you.

You definitely need to be creative and test out new things. That's how I'm closing deals every week.

        Thanks,
        Ahmad

Exactly. Call IT Guys and Accountants (these types of professionals deal directly with biz owners)...create mini partnerships and provide them an incentive (small % of each deal) or some other deal you workout.

Just setup a partnership of this nature last Friday!

LOTS of new ideas on the horizon...

Funny, I have known this fellow for right around 1 year... we just never sat down and really talked about how beneficial we can be for each other.

      Somehow the seeds were germinating...

Last Thursday the light bulb came on, we got on the phone Friday, worked out a deal!

I think found HIM a new web client today...

Definitely talk to other business people... He was hard to get time with, but my persistence paid off!

      Life Is Exciting!

I agree to work with IT guys.

Doesn't always work out because they swear they know webdesign but I can usually get them for R.M and local seo.

Yeah I already have several IT support guys referring business to me. One of the guys knows just basic web design and knew only about PPC - bottom line he wasn't able to sell web design/seo to his clients so that's where I come in.

      Good luck,

I have replied to DOZENS of ads like that... each with a custom made video of what I offer.. I mean DOZENS.

    Had nothing.
A few bites of interest, but nothing.

    Ahmad's right.

Picked up a great one this week from Craigslist just as described.

Just shoot an email about what you do with a link to your website/portfolio.

You'll get new prospects for sure. Remember with your internet savvy and marketing skill, most competitors in your market can't even stand in the same room with you.

Don't give up Dhira. Change your pitch to benefits rather than just services.

Don't be jealous! It works! It's also a numbers game, I've responded to TONS of ads before landing a few sold partnerships.

PM me if you need some tips! I love to help out my fellow Warriors

This is what you called extreme luck with a bit of hard-work. It's really hard to find JV specially when you're not located in USA, UK, or Australia.

You can always design 1-2 websites just to show clients in case they ask and you can rank those sites and flip or lease them out if you wanted.

        best of luck.

Craigslist can sometimes seem like a bit of a 'jungle' because of the scams, but there are definitely some solid opportunities in there worth pursuing. A few weeks ago, I secured an SEO consulting project by responding to an ad in Craigslist. The client said that the vast majority of the people responding to his ad were unqualified.

I agree...tons of scams and junk on Craigslist but it's all about persistence...so far I've closed over $10k in new business from Craigslist for 2011 (and Craigslist is not even my #1 lead source).

You've got to respond to ads with a personal response not a spammed out generic email.

      Best of luck!
