Is there a such thing as Fanpage SEO?

Having one of those brainstorming moments, and was wondering if there's any way you can optimize a FB fanpage to a website, GP Listing, etc?

If so, how?

And what about the other sites like G+, Twitter, Linkedin, etc?

Facebook pages show up in search results, so there's definitely some SEO involved. It could be as simple as keywords in the the username (domain) and display name. If you really want to up your changes of ranking a Facebook page I would do the following:

-Keywords in username and display name.
-Fill out all Bio information you can and include keywords.
-Keywords on landing page, as well as your wall.
-Post YouTube videos on your wall that are optimized for your keywords.
-Build backlinks to your page and increase 'fans' consistently.

Not saying that all of those things matter, I'd like to hear from someone who as actually tested it. But that's what I try to do, and what I'll continue to do on future pages.

Sure it would work the same except on-site seo. You can't edit meta tags etc on your fan page.

    YES YOU CAN...
Been doing this for a while... have a couple of fanpages confusing the hell out of some bigwigs in Google.

I use a plugin called Fanpage Pro... (search for the wso elsewhere on the forum) essentially, your fanpage resides on your self hosted blog, and has all the attributes of a regular blog.

So, instead of going to facebook to update your fanpage, you login to your blog, and voila, the content on the fanpage is automatically updated.

My clients are happy campers all way round.

    Good luck.

When you talk about updated content, are you still talking seo? Because none of this content on an iframe app is readable by a search engine on the actual Facebook page, so you can't seo the Facebook page that way. Am I missing something?

When you create an app on facebook to contain your fanpage, then yes, that content is unreadable.

However, when the content of your fanpage is contained on a wordpress blog somewhere, and that page is optimized for seo, you can 301 redirect the linkjuice to the fanpage.

One thing I seem to be observing with high ranking fanpages, in part, is due to the authority fb has in the SERPs so, despite there being no direct value in the fanpage page source, the vanity keyword so chosen for the fanpage, and some backlinking to both that fanpage and the real content on the blog, seem to help.
