Are business owners really that dumb to make enemies of us

This is a little tongue in cheek but I have been visiting a load of restaurants locally this week , managed to arrange them geographically convenient each day ie easy walking distance from one to the other to maximise time etc all with one exception that could only meet this afternoon (UK time)

So a separate journey into town is made , I get there, the guy at the bar looks confused when I say i have an appointment with (owners name) he gets on the phone to him and tells me he is with a supplier if I walk around for an hour and come back he should be free. I suggest that I am the one with a confirmed appointment so maybe he should end the meeting hes in and see me now . No I am to walk round for an hour , I ask for the phone and advise the owner that I too am a business owner who doesnt appreciate his time disrespected, I am far too busy to just walk around for an hour waiting until he decides he has time to keep an pre confirmed appointment..... I dont receive even an apology, its an 'ahh well ' sort of response , made me chuckle

Anyway moral is, if I can do good for his restaurant , I can do a load better for his competitors (some of which I am already working with) and I can do some damage to his online reputation (Ive eaten there so I can leave genuine reviews and social media content)

Now Im not going to cos as I say its a tad tongue in cheek and I havent got the time to do it even if I wanted to, but I will happily leave him to some other marketer to work with, its his loss

Moral is, dont take any crap out there, respect yourself your time and your business, dumbasses arent worth working with

Personally I would have just left and been happy I didn't have to work with this guy. If they are this rude about an apointment just think what a pain he would be to work with.

Well from my point of view, only a desperate man for business would stick around after that. Sometimes those guys aren't the best fit for the job. He lost a good provider because of his ego. It might be worthy depending on the ego, but anyways you are better off not working for him.

When his competition crushes him because of you he will understand what he lost.

Yeah in my years of management I wouldn't think about working with someone who could wait an hour like that. Gives off the vibe they are desperate. if I really wanted to work with the person I would call them back and apologize and schedule another meeting. Of course if you get a business that does this you are more likely to close them since they "owe" you.

This can be pretty powerful to use. It doesn't always work, sometimes the owner or manager that stood you up is simply a slob that doesn't care about anyone else. There are many, however, that do get caught up in something and cannot break loose from what they are involved in.

Whatever, if you walk into the appointment and assume the sale it will most likely work. I don't bring it up or beat them over the head with it, I just act professional and go thru the presentation going straight thru to the close without a pause...just ASSUME he is going to do business with you. He is left with an uphill climb to get out of it and most people will not go there.

      Good luck,
      DTaylor

Hey good replies, I know Id never work with him , I may destroy him if I feel like it , but only for fun , my point, as youve all seconded, is not to be pushed around, dont let them dictate things to you, they need you, you certainly dont need them (and neither do I).
