$2,560 A Week....from Car Lots!

This is in response to "ThriftGal" who posted (over on the "Mobile" section)about a product that "Makes Vehicle Headlights...like New"!

So....because I thought my response was more inclined to the "OFFLine" section...I'm including it here! NOT because I'm "selling" anything....but for INfromation that maybe someone...."over here" can use to make some dineros. So...bear with me you "pc whizzes"...this is about 2 things that are probably NOT for you.

Instead of "using your fingers" to make money....the following is about 2 things most of you are NOT into;
1) "Physical Contact" with people who can write you a check
2) "Physical Labor"...although "slight" "physical labor".

So...without further ado...here's my response to "ThriftGap" who proposed a chemical that can make "Cloudy Foggy Headlights...look like new!"
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++

Hey ThriftGirl....last year I discovered a similar product for restoring headlights that is just "rubbed on and rubbed off"....similar to the product you mentioned.

Now....the way I think is, "How can I make money with this?" Not by selling it to Individuals but....as a Service to Car Lots!

So...I took a bottle of "My Stuff" and some rags and went to a big Car Lot and told the owner (Used Car Lot Owners are ON the Lot and easy to find and talk to)...he has many Vehicles with "Bad-Looking" Headlights...which make them harder to sell.

I told him that...he could get an EXTRA $500 PER VEHICLE with "Shiny-New" Headlights....and....at NO obligation...I'd like to show him how he can do this.

He agreed. So...I chose a 5 yr old Taurus. (Now watch how a "PRO-fessional Sales guy (ME) "closes the Deal"!)

I cleaned ONE headlight....showed the owner. (He could SEE the difference himself) I then told him I charge $35 for a set of 2 Headlights and if he wanted me to Re-Nu the other lamp...it'd cost him $35.

He said, "Go For It!"

So....that's how I got Car Lot clients. Because Car Lots are constantly getting vehicles...I set up a "Route" where I'd stop by at the same time each week.

My reason for doing this was to show a friend (who lost his job and about out of UNemployment)....how to earn money (I took him with me to SHOW HIM how easy it was to get "Paying Clients")

So....when he saw how EASY it was to get PAYING customers...he went out and contacted Car Lot Owners...on his own.

He now has 32 Car Lots he visits every Mon thru Thurs (8 a day...4 days a week. He spends 3 days a week with his Family (Fri-Sat & Sun with his young family)

Also....I found 2 other "Services" for Car Lots;

1) Black Plastic Restoration - Door Handles, Rear View Mirrors and Bumpers get to looking "whitish" so....I showed hin another chemical that will make that Black Plastic (or rubber) look like New!

2) Odor Removal - MANY used vehicles SMELL! Either cig smoke or other stuff (like dead mice, etc) So...we place a can of "Odor Removal" on the floor...open the top of the can and close the door. The chemical fills the interior with a FOG (Very Dramatic Demonstration for Car Lor Owners) Open the door after it dissipates and WHALA....NO ODOR!

Again...."Ya Can't Sell A Yucky-Looking or SMELLY...vehicle!" Oh sure, they can be sold, but for far less than they should be!"

When Car Lot Owners SEE the results from your "Test" ....they can see, with their own eyes....(their eyes Glaze over with Dollar Signs)....how it is NOW possible to boost prices by at least $500!

So...for his $80 to $100 "investment" in each vehicle....a Car Lot Owner can experience FIVE TIMES ROI!

Ca-Ching!

He's now averaging....$80 per vehicle....8 vehicles a Day ($640/day).... $2,560 per WEEK (4 days of "work")...for some "In-Person" contact and a little "Elbow-Grease"!

        They have the WORST Reviews out of anyone. I'm not just saying that either. Google Fast brite Reviews or Scams and they will probably come up. I've never seen so many bad reveiws for a product still selling on TV. I wonder what % buy that stuff and don't use for months and then it's too late to send it back.

          And....for the "El Skepto" above;

          "32 USED Car Dealers a Week!....Again....I'm talking about "SMALL....USED CAR" Dealers..."

          Must be a very large city because it has at least 32 small car dealers. Now, add in the medium car dealers, large car dealers and huge super dealerships....well, that city must have hundreds of car dealers!

            The products you have "work" because you've never used the "best in the World" products professional detailers demand or they quit.

            One of the most search phrases was: "what does a detailer do" and the answer is WORK too hard until they find the best products for cutting the labor down and better results makes it hard to go back.

            Midasman99: You can call the cell number listed above. He'll know who you are because I sent him the "tread" and asked about that $2,560 too. Guess what he said? "Hell yeah, he's doing that, easy!" So there you go, fellas your 6-figure business is waiting for you.

            Car dealers are used to a route truck coming by with supplies at the same time every week. They will never buy online like they do off the truck from a guy they know. They work 4 days on the route and take 1 day off to stock their trucks and do whatever they do for $125K to $300K in annual sales.

              I get all my stuff from autogeek, no store bought junk here lol. I kinda laugh when I see how people, neighbors whatever wash and "detail" their cars. Or the "detailers" that aren't even worthy of that name with the junk they use lol. Think I've met like 2 true detailers that only use boutique products like from autogeek and know how to correctly clay, polish, compound etc paint. I've done our own vehicles for years.

    Not saying it isnt possible, but I have trouble seeing business owners putting out $300 lets say to have someone spend 2 hours polishing headlights when they have guys in their detail shop who could do the same amount of cars in the same amount of time for 10 bucks per hour.

    Correction: I think its possible, I guess just not "probable". It seems like people who specialize in making used cars look valuable would be up with things like nationally advertised headlight defoggers for the most part.

    However, in a bind, if its all I had, I would go sell the hell out of the service anyway, and "someone" would say yes.

    Is it because people who specialize in polishing lemons dont know about headlight defogging chemicals?

    Something about this just doesn't sit right. I've worked at a used car dealership twenty years ago and even then we were using products like this. Headlight, glass, chrome and trim cleaners and restorers have been available for decades. Every dealer I ever met did the work themselves or paid minimum wage to get it done. They certainly didn't piss away €60 to do work they can do themselves for €10 inc. wages and materials. Used card dealers (or new for that matter) are THE shrewdest people you'll ever meet.

    I certainly wouldn't bet too much on this being viable.

      Hey! Skeptoramus's! Puleeze! Gimmee a Break! 3 things wrong with yer figuring;

      1) I'm NOT talking about New Car Dealers with a Used Car Section that can AFFORD to pay for FULL-TIME STAFF to "take care of Maintenance Work"! I'm talking about 1 or 2 man...USED CAR LOTS that....due to the "economy"....do NOT have the "personnel" to keep a PAID EMPLOYEE...on their Payroll to do "maintenance work"!

      2) Yup! Used Car Dealers ARE...Sharpies....HOWEVER....they also know when they can see a way to....GET MORE BUX for those "pieces of Metal, Plastic & Glass"....sitting on their lots....they WILL PAY....ONE Time for someone to come in and "Do A Job" for them that WILL....let them get MORE MOOLAH....for their clunkers!!!

      3) And...I'm NOT talking about USED Car Dealers .....putting out 300 lets say to have someone spend 2 hours polishing headlights when they have guys in their detail shop who could do the same amount of cars in the same amount of time for 10 bucks per hour!

      Wrongo! I'm talking about contacting EIGHT....I repeat 8 USED Car Dealers (1 or 2 person operations) a day....who may of may not have "A" Vehicle ("A" meaning ONE!) ......who'd like to have better looking;
      a) Headlights
      b) Black Plastic
      or...
      c) "Fresher" smelling vehicles

      Out of those 8 USED Car Lots....I found that I could find an "average" of EIGHT USED Cards A DAY....maybe 2 from 2 dealers...1 each from 4 other dealer (1 apiece) and NONE...2 Dealers! (=8 Dealers)
      2 @ 2 Vehicles = 4 Vehicles
      1 @ 4 Dealers = 4 Vehicles
      0 @ 2 Dealers = 0 Vehicles

      Total of 8 Dealers and 8 Vehicles!

      Then...we go to 8 different USED Car Dealers the next day...etc!

      32 USED Car Dealers a Week!

      Again....I'm talking about "SMALL....USED CAR" Dealers! that do NOT have "maintenance people and....the owner or his Sales MAN does NOT have the TIME...nor INCLINATION to "Spiff Up" their products!!!!!

      Don Alm....Ben Dere, Done Dat! Actually put in "MY TIME" to "experience" this "Non-Internet Phenomemon" .....no mater how you people who haven't may "Think" it...."Can't Be Done"!

      Again...."Gimmee a Break!"

    Yeah, this idea... painfully I say, is grasping at straws. Awesome though for your friend who made a business out of it. People can do almost anything they set their mind to... theres always a buyer out there "somewhere".

    Sounds like he has an all around detail business going there... Auto detail can be good money.

      That's OK Don that some of these people don't believe you can make that kind of money doing these services for auto dealers. Keeps competitors out of my hair while I continue to make a killing. Don't believe it! Don't believe it! Don't believe it! LOL all the way to the bank!

          But where do you get these chemicals?

          I have a 26 year old who's bipolar and can't seem to hold a job because he doesn't handle authority very well, for one. Something like this might just be his ticket to making some money. He's very personable and is a physically hard worker.

          Could you please share with me where to get these chemicals and more about this?

          His mother and I have been looking for something he could do within a very limited set of parameters that he can work in.

          Thanks.

    So let me get this straight...10K a month for cleaning headlights on cars?

    I'm not saying its not a viable business model, but I'm having a hard time thinking that the lot owners are going to fork over $80 bucks per car for something they could hire their teenage kid to do for about 10 times less.

    These ideas always sound great, but when applied, they don't always come off as easy as they sound. If your friend is doing this to make 100K per year, he certainly hit the motherlode, and also alot of very gullible used car dealers.

    For me, it's not about making $100k/yr. For my son with medical issues, he'd be happy to make $20/hr! Heck, he'd be happy to have a way of making money without having to deal with a boss.

    That's why I see this as a feasible opportunity for him. Even if he only charges $5/headlight which takes him 10 minutes to do both, he's on track to make $60/hour.

    At $10 for a set of headlights, that's more palatable to the business owner so he'll have less door knocking he needs to do.

    Then, as an added bonus, we are only 3 miles from automobile row where there are a ton of small one/two man operations.

    If he does a good job, maybe he can take on other jobs to clean up the cars like the wheels or interior or ?

    I'm a dad looking for opportunities for my kids too. This particular one has been really tough to find a job for. In this area, $20/hour is a good wage.

      There is no reason he can't do this!! Go to the junk yard and buy some old headlights and do 1/2 - drop them off at some dealers (now that's a great biz card - a 1/2 done headlight!). Take a trip up auto row and do some freebies. Most people love to see a young person with drive/determination and he will get work. It is easier for the lot manager to know that someone will be there every Tuesday do do the work than to have to worry about some hourly person to actually work! i used to repair windshields and I simply set up a route of dealers. Once they got to know me and know I did good honest work - all I had to do was show up and fix the chips and cracks and send the bill.
      He can do it - he sounds like the perfect person for this if he can't deal with a boss - his motivation will shine through and I bet they will start to ask him "hey, can you do ....... also?"

      Hi Bradley!
      Here is something I came across on Youtube by (Clear FX) to permanently restore a car's finish that has a biz op tied to it! Hey, you never know! It's worth a try!

      Forgot this other *interesting* paint restorer by Turtle Wax! Heck, I'm impressed enough after going to Amazon and reading the reviews--that I'm going to try it on my own 1993, dull-as-the-day-is-long, 4x4 Pathfinder! It's so dull, you can hardly tell that it's dark green! LOL!

    Hey Bradley, not to but in but heres another idea for your son... feel free to take it with a grain of salt...

    If your son can hand out flyers on a cpa offer that pays $15.00 commission, and by passing out 100 flyers per day featuring a great headline, benefits and a hot call to action he gets 5% conversion ratio without even pushing for a commitment or selling very hard as he hands them out... Then he could make $75.00 for a couple hours of work handing out flyers, and through time he would naturally learn to push a little harder when handing them out, tie people down a little better, get more commitment, and increase his conversion. That would happen naturally as he saw sales and his enthusiasm increased. Maybe he would even become inspired to bring on others and grow the idea...

    When you see a raffle at a local fair, where they give away a free computer to some lucky winner... all you have to do is fill out the form... Thats just a lead generation company person getting paid to turn in completed forms...When they are turned in, the computer copmpanies sales reps call all the people who filled out forms and rry to sell them computers, and they send them mailers... They may take in 100 thousand apps over a 6 month period before anyone actually wins the computer... Thats a form of cost per action. Offline.

    Anyway, there some ideas...

    Just another thought to add to your arsenal there.

      Excuse em wa! I forgot to mention......Along with...Headlight and Black Plastic Restoration and Odor Removal....he also does...."PAINT CHIP REPAIR"!.....which NO "kid" or "lot maintenance guy" can do!

      He STARTED with the 3 initial services....then found that Lot Owners WILL GLADLY....pay for "Paint and Scratch" repair...something they CAN'T GET from anyone else.

      This is what brings his "average" to $80 per vehicle X 8 vehicles a day from 8 Dealers!

      Took him a couple of days to research how to do this and what materials to use.

      I actually do detail cars, and I've never found a chemical that can truly restore clarity in headlights. Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but none that I've seen do more than kind of shine them up to make them look a little more even. I actually get down and use wet-sanding to remove the buildup and the hazed surface, and it produces results that will really last. For a dealer, maybe the shiny chemicals will work though, but like others have said, I have a hard time seeing any small dealers paying for this. Those guys typically do it all themselves. There's a reason I don't do anything for dealers, and that's because the big ones have their own people in house, the medium sized dealers won't pay anything, and the small ones don't pay for anything.

      If your friend really does make that kind of scratch doing what you say, then he had better thank the heavens above for his unique blessing of such work. Car dealers have taken a huge hit over the past few years in this economy and have tightened up their wallet even more, refusing to let go of money.

      And to the poster with the son that is bipolar, I would certainly recommend a self-employed type of deal, but just be aware that *some* of these dealers are really pushy jerks. I'm sure that not all are, but they are accustomed to having people on their lots that want a deal, and they want a deal too, and they will negotiate like nobody's business. They will try to get something for nothing to increase their bottom line, and they know if that if you disappear, they'll just find someone else to do what you're doing. I worry that it might not be the best for the young man, as some of those guys can be a pain to even talk to, much moreso if you worked with them daily. I like the flyer delivery idea that John Durham posted above much better.

    "32 USED Car Dealers a Week!....Again....I'm talking about "SMALL....USED CAR" Dealers..."

    Must be a very large city because it has at least 32 small car dealers. Now, add in the medium car dealers, large car dealers and huge super dealerships....well, that city must have hundreds of car dealers! wow!

      When I made this video http://www.ez-1.net/temp I thought the headlight restoration service could be used for getting outrageous attention so you get noticed and more importantly, remembered.

      Instead of leaving a flyer, leave shiny headlights and your calling card with a number to call. If they need your services, they will call YOU instead of someone else. If they don't, they won't call anyone. Or, will they think you're crazy and hope you don't come back?

      This is the response from MIDASMAN99 in the Mobile Marketing Section:
      Now....the way I think is, "How can I make money with this?" Not by selling it to Individuals but....as a Service to Car Lots!

      Excuse em waaa! This "little" project took about THREE (3) months of MY time and a few hundred bux....buying chemicals and TESTING them.

      THEN...finding out "HOW" to make money with them....
      a) whether there IS a Market (will Used Car Dealers PAY for this service?... and if so, how MUCH?)
      b) how to approach them...what to say to them....then....HOW to get their "Agreement" to let "little ol'" ME....do the work and...turn it over to someone else.

      So....sorry for NOT just handing out this info on a "silver platter"!

      If YOU like this so much....why don't you;
      1) Go talk to some detailers and used car dealers
      2) Check Google AND YouTube
      3) Buy some chemicals and test them

      The MONEY is there!

      I actually did a test run a while back to see if I wanted to get in the headlight restoration business. There is good money to be made, but you gotta have some hustle about yourself.

      While I tried to used car dealer route, I found that it just didn't work for me. Mind you, we only talked to 15 dealerships, but most of them had a guy who beat me to the punch, or they weren't interested.

      Where we did have some success, is approaching businesses in strip malls and getting the employees to go in together to get a group deal (as in we normally charge $30 for both headlights, but if you can get 3 of you together, we'll do it for $20 per car). Worked like a charm.

      Also, if you can find a gas station where the owner will let you post up, you can easily do 5-10 cars a day (depending on location and amount of pumps they have). Get 3-4 gas stations to let you come in one day a week, and you should eat off the land for a few months.

      I closing, while I like the ideal of cleaning headlights, and I have made a nice chunk of change at it, my desire is to exchange my time for local biz owners dollars via offline marketing. There are still days though, when I catch someone getting out of their car and let 'em know that they've got a lot of ______ (can't give the money script here), and I pocket a quick $20-$40 ($40, if someone sees me cleaning and asks me to do theirs too).

      If anyone needs help with this, or even wants to see the video of me cleaning my VERY FIRST customers headlights, hit me up. I'm here to help!

        That EZ1 Advertising Agency was started in 1982, [incorporated in 1985] to get the 15% agency discount for running this ad for about 20 years before the internet changed the way people do business:
        Local Route Sales Protected territory, training and customer list provided. $25K incl. Inventory, Route Truck and Working Capital.

        Those aren't the exact words - I didn't look it up but I can if that's important. This VHS Video, "Detailing for Dollars" was sold for $99.95 long before the internet made video marketing popular. This is one of his websites: www.AlwaysShinesOnline.com which goes against every user-friendly rule and then some. Customers still call from cities all over the U.S. and Canada every single week, sometimes daily looking for their local distributor because these guys HATE ordering detail supplies online.

        They WANT a route truck stopping by every week so in closing, if you're interested in doing business offline with customers who already know the product, call direct at the number above and see what deal you can make for less than $25K. You can also call Don Doss 713-594-2385 out of Houston and talk to him. He's a straight shooter and knows more about this business than I do.

        btw- if anyone wants help making a WSO out of this business model, just let me know.

    A lot of competition in this market, but if your willing to put the groundwork in and be persistent you will certainly build up a list of regular clients. Most clients want reliability, and thats what seems to be lacking in this field, the bloody valeter guy doesn't want to turn up when its raining and doesnt confirm appointments.

    I read this and became quite excited.
    Then I remembered something and went to check. Yep, it was what I remembered.
    Go to youtube and search for "Headlight Lens Restore using Toothpaste!"
    Well, no need for an expensive kit. Although anyone doing this might want to squeeze the toothpaste into a non-descript container before approaching any car lot owners.
