Free SEO Reports for Clients???

Hey guys,

I've noticed that most companies who are targeting offline business for SEO services will give a free SEO analysis of their prospects website.

Most of these guys have an opt-in form on their websites to target new customers.

I've had a look at some of the SEO reports and they vary between 5+ pages os analysis (including screen grabs from Market Samurai) to little 1 page snapshot reports.

Does anyone in here have any experience with what converts best?

I'm a little wary of including all the keywords in a free report as any savvy business can just take the full keyword report to a cheaper SEO company when they do a bit of ringing around and say "rank me for these keywords".

I haven't seen any companies hiding keywords or just using teasers. That was another thing I thought may work?

Thanks!

Firstly: Most business owners are so clueless about SEO that they wouldn't think to take the keywords to another business. And if they would, these would not be the type of clients you would want to have.

Secondly: The length of the report varies. If they do not have a website yet, I usually make it 1-2 pages.

If they do have a website I make it around 4-5 pages and really review their site and its possibilities.

Remember that business owners want simple. Not some over complicated report with all sorts or terms they don't understand.

That's why I use a 1 page report if they don't have a website. They haven't invested any money into the internet yet, so why would they invest 20 minutes into reading a report about what could* happen after they invest.

      Just my 2c

I've found that non-technical grading reports work best, using simple metrics like A-F or 1-100

For prospective clients, what you should do is tell them that you'd love to get on a call with them to discuss your SEO analysis, and provide a PDF right before the call which has about as much material as you'd cover in a 30 minute phone call.

This increases the odds of closing the customer considerably for a couple reasons. One, they are reading the analysis a lot less passively. If you just give them one and leave it at that, it is a lot harder to highlight the important features (and get a feel as to what features the customer might think are important so you can emphasize those more).

The second reason is that it gets the prospective customer to commit to something. In psychology it has been shown that before asking for something big, it is better to first ask for something small. By getting them to say 'yes' to a phone call you are already leading them along a path where they'll be more likely to say 'yes' to a sales.

Finally, it gives you a chance to show off the fact that you know what you're talking about. By walking the potential customer through everything and answering their questions while the report is in front of them you have some personability and credibility that the other competing agencies won't have.

SEO reports work pretty good for optin's.. Look up Kevin Koop here on the WF, I believe he has a few WSO's that had killer content and was used to give away to your prospects!

    theantihype said it best.

Prospects might nod their head that they understand what you are saying, but most of the time they won't and it will only confused them. Giving them a simple rating and a simple explanation on why this is should work just fine. What's more important is giving them a sense of urgency that they need to do something about it. You don't have to lie or try tricking them either. Just show them their competitors and let them know how much potential business they are losing because of their rating or something along those lines.

I think we should give them a MEDIUM size report and write a comment on every factor like Metatag, Indexed Page, keyword density etc. So that client get to know what factor effect you website performance in Search Engine.

Yeah, I concur that providing some sort of entry-level SEO evaluation is a great idea. However, I don't think you'll find great ready-made reports for free.

I mean SEO Powersuite have recently updated their reports, and I mentioned them previously here.

But you can use them hands-free with the enterprise version only, the free version won't let you save them and email them to your clients. Anyway, these SEO reports are the best I've ever seen.

Alternatively, you can focus on aspects other than in-depth keyword research in your free reports.
