The whole SEO offline thing...

Been thinking of taking my SEO efforts and selling locally. I figure I do it pretty well with so many competitive sites I may as well make some money locally??? :-)

I mean can I make $30K a month ? If I get real aggressive?

Anyone have any idea what you would charge for SEO and google places work - I'm one to go BIG or go home, so I was really thinking about ramping up in a big way here in my state.

Anyway if anyone has any advice on pricing structures I would appreciate it.

I generally get my foot in the door with a client with Google Places. I sell those for $297 or $397. Then, I talk to them about website (new or re-do), mobile site, lead capture with email follow-ups etc., videos and anything else I can think of.

You can go as far and as big as you want with this.

$30K per month is quite a bit of work but can definitely be done with decent positioning and aggressive sales/marketing.

I know my Google Places prices are way low, I can probably get up to $1,000 in some markets for the same work. I generally stick with thin markets so I look like a hero quickly.

    Good luck with your endeavors.

Hey D what can you explain the significance of NOT claiming your GP page ?

In a competitive market an unclaimed Places page will most likely not be on the first page.

In a thin market, an unclaimed listing can be on the first page but is just as likely to bounce around from first to third to fifth etc.

If they are in the Places listing their chance of getting business from the search the customer performed increased exponentially.... or should I say they now have a chance at getting business.

If you can get them to go for a Places listing, then get them a website listing on the first page, then get their video on the first page they now control about 25% to 30% of the first page for that search term. This is powerful stuff.

Also, regarding Places listings. If done well they will come up on the first page for most of their search terms.

      Hope this helps.

My experience has been that selling SEO services to offline clients is one of the more difficult services to sell. The reason I say this is because it is a very competitive market and many businesses have been burned by not getting promised results in the past. This makes them very hesitant to sign on with a new company.

I would say Google Places is a good place to start because it's a relatively new approach than just getting ranked #1 for a keyword. Also for local searches Google Places shows up above most organic results, so it is better for the business anyway.

If you are looking to make $30k a month from SEO services, I recommend you look into Reputation Management and suppressing negative websites like RipOffReport.com from the search results on a company's name. There are lots of large companies out there who will pay big bucks for this service. Make sure you have a solid understanding of SEO though as these projects are very large and complex.

I hope this helps and best of luck moving forward!

Very good advice, imo!...SEO at least in my experience, is what all these big national phone rooms are pounding right now.

Clients that I see tell me how frequently they get calls for "SEO SERVICE" ...and these vendors make totally unrealistic promises just looking for the quick buck. It can be difficult to distinguish yourself from these guys.

GPlaces is a better starting point, and like Ben mentioned, in many markets, the GP results will show up above the organic results. I find more and more clients want to rank in GP than anywhere else.

Just personally, I'm finding reputation repair and monitoring is worth targeting as well.

Getting started with Google places and claiming listings and getting the information accurate and up to date is definitely solid advice. There are large advertising firms that used to just place national businesses in yellow pages who are making the switch to digital and are charging a ton to local business to get their Google places ads claimed and cleaned up. That's a big thing right now for local.
