Theme for Medical Doctor

Hi Warriors!
I am building a site for a local medical doc who specializes in skin cancer. I am looking for a suitable theme - can anyone help? I find that most of the themes available have way too many features that are too "blingy" for a profesisonal persons website (e.g. sliders & other bells and whixtles)
Also if anyone know a good source for getting skin cancer images I would be really grateful.
regards
Stephen

It might help more if you could tell us a little more about what you want, what you don't and what features are important to you.

Try this one at Theme Forest--Portable Studio

It's cleaner than others, has a smaller slider (which can be used for a single image) and more areas for text.

Thank for the reply & the themeforest referral!
This doctor (my client) specializes in a procedure called "Mole mapping" it is device which maps patients moles over a period of time to see if these moles are becoming cancerous. I need images that show moles that have become cancerous (they use a ABCD principle - see what I have done already at http://skincancerdoctor.co.za if you want to. I have used Colorway theme here and images from the web
I still have plenty of work to do on the site and I dont even know yet if client likes the colorway theme so I am looking for alternatives as well as images that I can use without the risk of copyright infringement
          Best wishes

            @Stephen,

I see what you're trying to do.

IMO the first thing you should be doing is asking the doctor what type of site he/she wants. Use a paper and pad to get the basic structure down and go from there.

Regarding images...does the doctor have any?

I think it would be better to explain the ABCD process on one of the interior pages. You can use a series of images or better yet a short video of the doctor explaining the process and how it benefits the patient.

For images, try search [dot] creativecommons [dot] org/

The Wikimedia Commons selection may work the best. On this site, click on any images you like and below you should see the rights of use for that image.

      That is a beautiful theme.

It looks familiar though, I think I've seen this theme somewhere, its the top left corner's design that struck a memory.

Somewhere on Themeforest perhaps I've seen it.

Nonetheless, what you've done for (bloo-dental.com) looks really good and it's opened up my mind to the customizations possible with a theme.

      Thanks.

    Hi Stephen,

I took at look at the website and I wanted to share my thoughts on this

    (1) like Hubcap said, see what the doctor wants and sketch it out

    (2) I strongly suggest an uplifting beautiful image on the home page. Maybe don't use a slider - just one simple attractive image - a healthy person or people with lovely skin. Show these detailed photos on a separate page.

People tend to like more attractive images. One that make them feel like, "Yes I want to look like that" or "I can have healthy skin too." Just the home page image. You can have a section called "facts about moles and skin care" or "what skin cancer can look like" etc... and place the images in that section.

Our company has worked with a lot of medical professionals in the past years ranging from dentists to eye doctors to family practice and surgeons. From my personal experiences, it will be challenging to get a doctor to "map out" or "sketch" what he or she wants. The reason is most have no idea and don't have the time to do the research.

What you need to do is find out what their goal is with the website. With medical websites, sometimes the goal is just to minimize calls to the office or to make processes run smoother by having patient forms, surgical instructions and other basic information on the website. Other times the goal is to get more patients. This is especially true in offices that a larger percentage of their business comes from cash/credit paying customers over insurance (i.e. dentists, eye doctors, chiropractors, etc.). Most primary care offices that do mostly insurance business get most of their patients from insurance referrals.

Once we know the goal of the doctor/clinic, we will do the research for the client. We will research other specialists across the country and choose 5-10 websites that we like and feel we can emulate with WordPress. We will then print those out or email them and get feedback from our client. We will then create a theme/template based on their likes and dislikes from the websites we researched. This helps them be part of the process without having to spend the time researching and it cuts down on the re-designs we might have to do otherwise.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your client!
