25 likes is the minimum to get a custom url name on facebook.

Likes and talking are different measures.

If all you want them for is your vanity url, then buy some likes from fiverr. True, they'll never convert, but sometimes you have to park some cars in a parking lot to make a place look busy. Once you've claimed your url, then focus on getting quality likes and actual fans.

Why buy them? You don't have 25 people in your friends list who will do you a favor? Plus you count as one and most people have more than one account thanks to games and such so 25 should be easy.

You get people to like your page by setting up an offer they can only get by Liking your page.

IE for a dentist:

"Get 10% off your next check-up by clicking like!!"

It's the same as bribing for an e-mail address.

I believe facebook has removed the 25 minimum. Set up a custom page with a fangate to promote a report or video

Facebook no longer requires the 25 likes for the custom fan page url. Just log in with your admin account, and paste facebook.com/username into your url bar. Presto. Just be very, very sure about the url you pick, because once you've chosen one, you're stuck with it forever.

Harry, I have the same problem with my dog boarding business. Even my in-laws just don't get it. I've tried explaining how fan pages work, and that their friends who own dogs could see the fan page if they Liked it, but they aren't interested. However, they do greedily comment on wall stories, pics etc. *shrugs*

This morning I added the free dog diet ebook as a thanks for Liking. I'll test how this works, and if it doesn't I'll replace it.

Also, my wife and I just started partnering with foster groups and individuals (so we take an animal and host it for a few days to a few weeks) in exchange for the publicity. But in our first example, though the foster person Liked the page, none of her 1000+ friends has.

I'm sure there's some FB fan page guru out there who'll smile at us and say, "Look, it's easy; you do this..."

It's really the exact same concept as getting e-mail subscribers (which you can do by intergrating aweber)

Put an offer in place that people can only obtain by Liking your page (people won't just like your page because you asked them to!!). Then, drive traffic to it. I know plenty of users that even use Facebook PPC to drive traffic to their fan page - and get some quality results.

You have to make sure it's worth the money of PPC to have people Like your page obviously - as in making sure you can monetize it somehow.

Basically what is a call to action and if you give them something to like your facebook page then you get more likes. I have to say I didn't know you could create the domain with over 25 likes, I am going to look into that.

It's so easy to get 25 likes dude.... just make a interesting fan page got some like in there and after that promote your product page or brand page so you get niche target fans.

For me one of the techniques you can use is to post your page and ask a favor to your friends in your personal account to like you page. Its working in most cases.

About the 25 likes thing, you only don't need them for your FIRST fan page. You still need them for every fanpage after that. I was under the presumption that this was NOT the op's first one.
