What are businesses biggest problems, what do they want?

I just wondered what everyone is seeing out in the field as the biggest problems for businesses that they actually want?

We know what their problems are, but I'm wondering what they think their problem is.

The two things may not be the same..

Typically three things, from the business owner's perspective:

    1. Work less hours
    2. Earn more money
    3. Have more freedom in their life

Business owners are interested in two things:

      Cut Costs
      Increase Profits

If you've got something that can do either one, they will listen....if you've got something that does both....they will listen carefully....if they buy is a matter of how you do your job.

      That's the secret sauce.

Gotta agree with Max and others on this one. THESE are the true problems most of the time. And often these answers are not what you get.

More importantly, I would like to see the secret sauce to actually find customers who are ready, willing, and able to PAY for these solutions.

Outside of offline, think about any job you've had where you are a "consultant". Finding the right solution is one thing, but once you've identified the right solution they still have to be able to afford it.

I try to follow the B.A.N.T. principle:
      Budget
      Authority
      Needs
      Timeframe

....but sometimes it still gets hung up on the Budget - even if your solution can deliver results.

      • It's different from every business owner's point of view.

Your job is to find WHAT THEIR HOT BUTTONS are!

It's amazing what they will reveal to you when you GENUINELY ask "what keeps you awake at night"?

Once you know that, THEN YOU can move forward to help them!

        Cheers,

All great answers. The one that's king though is:

    MORE CASH.

More cash on hand does so much for individuals and businesses. More options they can try. More time to solve problems. Cash can even cover up problems!--which may not be the best thing, but it makes business owners happier. You bring them more revenue dollars and let them keep more at the end of the day, and they'll love you for it.

I hear "more customers" and "more clients" from the vast majority which is sad because it's not what they actually 'need' in order to own a successful business.

What they should be seeking is 'more profits' and that's what we should be offering as the focus of all our offline solutions.

    Dare to be different!

what the businesses USUALLY WANT? i think this is completely true... for most they see customers = $ but ya... what they may really want is time, money freedom (to name 2)...

who was it? i think jay abraham:

3 ways to make more money:
        1. more customers
        2. more repeat customers
        3. more money per customer

i think that's what it was... 2 & 3 come naturally once you get the relationship solid.

agreed... especially when what you once thot was the problem was never the real culprit, and you have a solution for the wrong "problem!"

    Money.

Yup! That's it. Unfortunately half the time they end up spending more money on bad marketing to get more money back. Which doesn't work because their spending the same amount on their bad advertising that their getting back.

So what they really need is a solution. They need someone to come in and tell them the right ways to be spending their money. What you need to gain, is their trust to enable that.

Quite a few insightful responses so far. Blindbiz touched on one I hear from clients/prospects...more leads. And, I'm also hearing them say their websites look bad...or aren't bringing them any business. Their outsourced admin is asleep at the switch.

Find some local businesses with dated or bad-looking sites...ideally not on Page 1. I'd think about mocking-up a fresh site (like with Barry & Roger's Site Lead Machine). Go in and show them their site...then, your mock-up. Either sell it to them...or give it to them and ask them to cover monthly admin services (say $67 - $197). Once they bite (and they do), make the real site...and make it start bringing them local leads. Now that your foot is in the door, upsell to other services as time goes by. This works for me. Rinse & repeat.

You make them look better on the web...and, their website is working harder for them...
