Any other warrior utilizing linkedin?

I have to admit, I have neglected what linkedin can possibly do for me and my company. I have decided to take the plunge and get involved.

Have any of you had success? I have literally just signed up, joined a few groups and trying to make some valuable connections.

In theory I can see how this would be a huge lead generating machine if used right. Just curious if any others in offline marketing are using this at all?

I assume it is like other things, you only get what you put in, which is fine with me, I'm always about adding value and helping people even before they become clients.

Nathan chaney | LinkedIn is my profile if you guys want to add me.
(not sure if this is allowed, just tell me and I will edit it)

So, fellow warriors... what is your experience? Any great success stories? Tips?

I know I've seen at least a couple posts talking about LinkedIn over the past week or so. Specifically there is one about using it to get people to sign up for/attend a seminar. I believe it was iamchrisgreen that started that thread.

I went ahead and added you to my network. I also just recently created my account. I think this is kind of a fun idea for people on this forum to network with each other.

If anyone wants to add me, here is my profile:

Awesome... Would be great for warriors that are on there to post their profiles on here so we can all connect and help each other.

I have been reading a lot of articles on entrepreneur about linkedin and it seems to be a great way to network. Kind of like BNI except available on a larger scale.

Linked In is a really strange network. I personally haven't figured out the best way to utilize it. So, I've given up on it. I'd love to put it to use. But I just havent figured out how to do it.

This is the same boat I'm in. I've heard it's awesome for networking and drumming up business, but I'm not seeing it myself.

I've done very well from linkedin after I really started using it about 10 months ago (I've been a member since 2008).
So far I've got a gig writing for Jay Abraham's business magazine (goes out to 13 million businesses), became an authority within 3 weeks for solicitors (uk lawyers) and have had numerous business from it and been asked to speak to a trade organisation in the UK about online marketing.
The thing you need to remember about linkedin is that it's a place where you generally can't just pitch as that usually means you get angry responses and booted out of the group. You've got to network and give value. If you do this then you'll do well from it.
Remember to it's a great way to reach lots of ceo's, owners and chairman/women without going through 5 gatekeepers.

Here's a few ideas I came up with that you can use on LinkedIn:

    1. Make sure you profile is as complete as possible. Just get all your information, website, photo, and anything else that explains how you are the best at what you do.

    2. Check out LinkedIn Answers and see if you can answer questions that people are struggling with in marketing themselves online. This way you can start to build a reputation as the go-to-man (or woman). Try not to come across as a smart ass though. No one likes those.

    3. Link to your your LinkedIn profile from your blogs, websites, Facebook, business cards and whatever else you use.

    4. Join local groups so you can be the person in your area that helps local businesses have some success online (or start a group yourself).

    5. Keep your profile updated with news and recent business activity.

    6. Share helpful articles or products with people for free.

    7. Get people that you have done some work for to recommend you. This is one of the most powerful parts of LinkedIn. People take these recommendations seriously because of the business nature of LinkedIn.

Good stuff, I didn't even know the answers thing existed until this post. I went in and did a few. I have joined a few different groups and they seem to be generating some hits to my site.

I need to get working on recommendations. Unfortunately I don't see many of my clients on linkedin.

I don't use Linkedin nearly as much as I should. It's really infested with business prospects too. I have just been busy with other things, but I really do need to get on the Linkedin train.

I might even check out that WSO. It's easier to learn how to do it from someone else rather than trying to learn it all myself. I've learned that over the years!

I don't think so LOL. It isn't worth it to me at this point, I'm sure I could sell services to people on linkedin, and receive recommendations.

I sent out invites to my contacts, so I hope to progress a bit. I would like 100 worthwhile connections in a week or two. We'll see how it goes!

I am active on LinkedIn, but not for selling services.

Since my background is in management consulting, I am often contacted by recruiters in that field. Yesterday, I spoke to a recruiter and I mentioned my knowledge of SEO... and, in turn, he expressed pretty strong interest in hiring me for SEO services. This guy actually owns his own consultancy.

I have to admit that although I joined the site a while back - I have seriously neglected it mostly from being busy with other things.

Might check it and see what it's "really" about.

My LinkedIn profile has over 600 connections. There are many ways of getting clients. You just need to blend in and find good groups and help out the members in the groups. The clients will come, but it takes patience and persistence.

Haven't cracked this one yet... I have joined a few, but they don't seem to be very active. I don't know... I'd like to join a few and really be able to get involved. My connections have gone up a bit. Met a really cool guy that offers national media campaigns.

Chris, have you tried advertising on linkedin? I would assume it would be worth it... debating on whether to do CPM or CPC for linkedin.

Linkedin is all about having a great profile and then networking. Join groups you are interested in targetting. Also give away stuff like free reports to build your creditablity. I gave away a free report to a lawyers group and in 2 months have have nearly 250 requests. That has lead to 2 clients and I've been approached by a handful of potential clients. This is starting from nothing in that group.

Does your city have a LinkedIn group. The city I live in does and I try to be very active on there and help out where I can.

Your profile setup is crucial to gaining traction in LinkedIn. Offering a free report gets you some traction and gets you known. If the group you joind is inactive but you become a member you can always send messages but I prefer to keep looking for active groups.

Excellent, would love to connect on LinkedIn with other warriors: Daphne Link | LinkedIn

I'll try finding groups in my city, haven't tried that yet, solely because I don't typically like working in my own 'backyard', in case things ever go haywire and people want to bulldoze my place down.

Other than that, I've been on LinkedIn for years, but never active or used it to get clients and help those that need help with marketing strategies, because my main focus is cold calling; I should start so I don't have all my eggs in one basket.

Well, a few weeks later I now have over 600 connections, have been able to interact with people who have bought my WSO... been able to actually have some pretty valuable connections and opportunities. I haven't utilized it in the fullest extent yet but I am getting there. I have been posting relevant news articles, blogs of mine and been using the answers section. I am getting a bit of traffic to my site from linkedin, just people browsing to my profile I guess.

We'll see what comes of it, so far so good!
