Google Places - Saturated?

Hello

We have been thinkin deeply which direction to go, and have narrowed our selection to providing just Google Places optimisation to Dentists.

There's a couple of things that's bugging us, such as is this saturated? Looking at some local listings near us, it does look like many places are still not optimised but thought we would ask you guys for your views.

Say we optimise fully, videos, phones, reviews and our customers still do not outrank another company above. How do you explain this to a client, even though you know you have optimised it 100%

Many Thanks

Lorna and Dave

Either, make totally sure that you spell this out clearly up front in a contract and have them sign it, or pick a different niche of people who you feel would be easier to get a good ranking.

For you overall question, no I don't think it is saturated.

There's probably over 1000+ dentists in my area. How could that become saturated? It's just more competition.

Remember you don't need to target just your city either.

You mean, you aren't getting top placement after fully optimizing?

That is because the myth that all you need to do is complete your listing, is exactly that, a myth. You still need reviews and citations.

Totally agree. See look at it this way. The listing information = you on-page optimization and your reviews/citation= your off-page optimization and on regular SEO the site with more authority backlinks wins. Well is no different with Google Places. The listing with more quality citations/ reviews and proper listing optimization gets top ranking.

Don't forget that the actual optimization of the website is a fact as well!

I would do a search for local dentist names. See if any other ads show up. That will show you your competition.

In terms of services to market I think Google Places is a great one to choose.

The reason being, that it's ranking system has been very elusive to alot of marketers and therefore are not interested in getting into a tango with it..

As mentioned above, alot of it is based off of the main sites optimization.

Take a look at this free GP tool to suss out the competition -> New Google Places Free Software

Yelp, city search... your own private blog network... there are many ways to do this, any business directory will work.

There are now several different groups here on the WF offering Citations Services (including mine - see sig).

Reviews are a differnt breed though. Wanting to keep things above board though is essential. If someone wants you to "create" some reviews for them, run the other way.

Having said that though, it is reasonable to coach your client about how to get reviews, provide an easy review process and even give them the tools they need in their businesses to make it happen.

One of my clients now hands each customer a card specifically asking them to leave an online review. On the card we provide a simple .com domain name that re-directs to their Google Places listing and simple instructions on how to leave the review.

Give your client the tools for reviews and tons of citations.

Google Places is still a great thing to focus on.

And I don't think it will get saturated.

We offer Places as an entry product and upsell them after we provide results.

It never hurts to explain to business owners that you don't own Google and therefore can't guarantee that everything will always stay the same and that you make it a point to stay on top of the most recent changes Google is doing.
