So we all know about google places, we know about mobile websites, sms marketing, and many other popular services we can offer our clients.

How many of your clients are advertising on google? Or any PPC program? Do you know enough about ppc and adwords to be able to offer PPC management to your clients? What about incentives?

Google Engage is a program for "agencies" to offer PPC management and training. This is not the certification program by google, but it may be better!

So what are the perks? Good question...

The biggest perk in my eyes is the 20, $100 vouchers you get for your clients. You might be able to use one yourself, I am not sure, I haven't tried that yet.

This is a HUGE benefit to us.

Why?

The answer is simple. Adwords is an entire new beast to learn, your clients know advertising is good, hell, you even find them from advertising in the yellow pages, maybe even premium listings on some directory. Adwords just may be the BEST form of advertisement because you can directly track and manage your campaign, more than other forms of advertisement.

The $100 vouchers you get for being part of the program, can offer incentives to get going. You can offer PPC management services, for a one time set up fee and then a monthly maintenance fee. You can give them a $100 voucher to start their advertisements.

THIS IS A WIN WIN SITUATION. Not just for you, but for your client. They get $100 free advertising, plus their monthly budget they would want to put towards this, and you get a one time setup fee, along with a monthly maintenance fee.

They provide you with marketing materials, and this could be a big step for you to legitimately being able to use the cool logo that says Google certified partner and be listed in their database! While this is not a certification program, it it probably the best way to get started.

You can learn enough about PPC, to manage your clients campaign with great results.

Here is the sign up:

Google Engage

They will accept your application and probably call you the next day. I believe you DO have to be in the USA or Canada to take advantage of this!

I have done this and it is worth it!

i have used one of the vouchers for my own purposes I admit. I have to set up a campaign for one of my commission based clients very soon using the voucher see if I can land a couple fish and make some money to reinvest into more adwords as it is a very competitive market and will take a while to rank organically.

Yeah this is an awesome program.

I was just accepted into it a couple days ago.

It is only available to US and Canada as you say, which also goes for the vouchers.

The process is very similar to getting accepted into a CPA network.

You fill out the information and they contact you the following day.

They will ask you why you signed up, what you do, why you think Google Engage program would work for you.

You then go in and have to complete around 2 hours of training webinars to obtain the completion codes which you later enter to get your vouchers.

Once you run out of vouchers you can also submit a request for more, which I'm sure they will grant to you aslong as you've used them up and the clients have gone onto actually spend some real money with Google.

The vouchers do have an expiry date - if you started up now I think they're good until about mid-December.

I've hired a telemarketer for my business, so I thought I'd make a few calls to see if the following script was good enough to pass on...

    "Hi there,

My name is James Wilder. The reason I'm calling today is because my company has recently been accepted as an advertising partner with Google.

In turn they have given us 20 vouchers for $100 each in free advertising, to offer to our new clients.

Just wondering if you'd be interested in getting set up with one of these vouchers?"

I'm not a cold calling expert so that script may or may not be all that great...

But, the way I looked at it is:
    -I have my introduction
    -My reason for calling
-A note that builds credibility(We've partnered with Google for jumpin' sake!!)
-Juicy offer ($100 in free advertising)

Plus it's nice and short - I feel awkward when I go on rants in an opening pitch.. "Is this guy even listening to me?"

I was recepted very warmly by the first prospect and we actually spoke for quite a few minutes on the offer. It didn't turn into a sale - but still a solid enough interaction to know this is something that will get prospects interested!!

I've passed it onto my telemarketer who is going to start next week, I'll post results in here to tell you guys how it goes!!

I know alot of marketers are scared of taking on PPC management for their clients. If you're interested we offer PPC management at a low price so you can offer it with confidence.

One of our PPC specialists are certified by Google.

PM me if you want to know more.

PPC is a hard sell to local biz owners from the get go. Existing clients its a no brainer. How I sell it is use it to test headlines, offers, call to actions and show them an increase of sometimes 500% response. But as I said, it is an EXTREMELY hard service to sell on a walkin.

      That's interesting.

You'd think it'd be quite easy since they can expect to see results much faster then SEO.

Aswell as the fact that you can inform them there are no real guarantees with SEO - they can be in spot 1 today and page 47 the next. I realize that PPC isn't 100% either - but you are paying Google directly so there's always a bit more certainty in it.

I'm actually amazed at the amount of business owners that know exactly where the Google advertisements show up. Of course alot of them get $100 vouchers from Google to get started up, so they've almost been pre-sold on the benefits.

Rather then SEO which they might have a bit of an aversion to since it's generally the most propositioned of internet marketing services out there.

Not trying to argue in anyway - just surprised to here that being the case.

I have to disagree with this. I closed 2 deals today... I have also used it to increase value in a package. I got one client that was on the fence, to just jump into it with the incentive of $100 free advertising in google.

I agree with you. PPC though, I think IS 100%... granted, you don't know what the actual results will be, but you DO know, no matter what you are getting clicks and being seen!

PLUS, if you go for the certification and you can tell the prospect you are a certified partner with google, and they can find you in their database, that is HUGE credibility.

In my eyes, you can't go wrong with PPC. Of course it isn't exactly the most ideal for long term and reducing costs, but as long as it is converting that really is all that matters right?

I truly think anyone who is offering web design, OR SEO, should also be offering PPC management.

Absolutely, I was referring to it not being 100% in the sense that I know Google has been semi-unpredictable with their banning of accounts in the past.

I think alot of those people that have been banned were probably sending people to content-less landing pages bribing for e-mails and not really clueing in that's clearly against the rules.

But, you're 100% right in terms of building credibility.

For new people - one fear is that they won't have the portfolio to prove their value to prospects.

Going in and saying you're an advertising partner of Google washes away any doubts a client may have of your abilities!!

Anyways, great to see you posted this, I was meaning to do it myself!!

          Thanks,

You watched the videos right? The videos really seem to me to only want to prepare you to sell PPC management services, LOL. I'd recommend to checking out the certification program they have. You'll learn a lot, and be "Google Certified".

The most important thing, if you were planning to do PPC for something on a larger scale, you need to expect the first run to be a test. That way you can test the ads and CTR on each ad you have. The higher the ad quality, the more money you save.

I also like to run ads on CPM instead of CPC. However, doing that isn't for everybody... you can lose pretty bad if you do CPM and don't know your average CTR.

I would recommend multiple ads and adgroups but make sure you target different keywords otherwise you will bid against yourself.

Sometimes what I will do for a new site is just run ads on the content network, not in search... And get a really good deal on CPC or CPM. ALSO, make SURE you are using exact match keywords and not broad match. Broad match is a waste of money in my opinion, you won't get as targeted traffic.

Most importantly... test, test, test. No campaign will be exactly the same. You will need to test things out, and adjust accordingly.

Thanks for the info on the Engage program. What kind of pricing structure do you use with clients when managing their PPC? I'm assuming a percentage off their monthly advertising budget? If so, what's a good percentage to start at?

I would using a set up fee because if it is even a medium size campaign then you have a lot of work to do setting it up. I would think if their budget is 1,000 a month... Charge a $1,000 set up fee, and then $250-400 a month. Even if they only have a budget of $300 a month, never go under $100 a month for pricing.

It might sound crazy for some of you who haven't done this. You might be thinking, if that is their budget, how can I charge a set up fee, and how can I get that much a month? It is simple... if you take just a little bit of time to learn adwords and different strategies, you could be saving them much more than that amount!

I took on a client, for free.... it was a friend of a friend and I wanted to see how much money I could save someone with a lower end budget. He spent $300 a month for about 20-30 clicks.... I got him at 180 clicks for the same amount! Someone who was spending $300 a month on his own and getting 20-30 clicks.... he essentially got $1,800 of advertising on his own ratio. That alone would make up the price!

    Great share!

I just got a $100 Google Adowrds Express voucher in the mail yesterday. I'll be using it for one of my local clients.

Clients understand traffic to their site and really Adwords is the easiest way to do that. So by showing them how that is done using Adwords is a great selling point. If you can offer a free $100 credit they will EAT that up.

    Again, thanks for the share!

A long time ago when I used to sell physical products, I spent around $43,000 on Adwords/year. It took a while to figure out those buying keywords and if you have no idea what you're doing, then tread carefully. It's a great program, but work slowly until you get some experience under your belt.

PS - Great bargains can be had on the content network. Just a tip.

This is an entry program... IT IS FREE!! You don't need prior training, I went through it and basically fell asleep. You will want to pay attention though because there is good information in the videos. Ultimately, even though this will send you in the right direction, and you get the $2,000 in free vouchers, you should pursue more learning and get google certified. In my opinion, google engage is an introductory step to getting certified!

At the very least, once you finish this, you can get an MCC account, and manage your clients... but the most important is the leverage you get from the $100 voucher you can give your client!

Most of my clients pay me a lump sump monthly for SEO, PPC, social, etc. Is there a way to create new AdWords accounts to use the voucher, but use your own billing info? I assume Google would have an issue with X amount of accounts with your same billing info, even though they are for your individual clients, correct?

I just applied to this, so thanks for posting. I've done adwords for years for my own stuff, but I just met with a current client today that after my 2 week test of adwords for him, he decided to go with keeping the ads running.

Every local business owner knows about advertising but few really know how to do adwords. If you can increase traffic and sales to their site, its a no brainer. this also opens up a conversation on incorporating an opt in email system on their site with followup, etc. the client I met with today said they still spend $1100 per month on other print ads. Imagine the kind of traffic you could send with that kind of money at your disposal. Offering $100 certificates should get a foot in the door.

You can use one of the vouchers for yourself aslong as you've made a new account. This is a question that is asked inside the Engage program and they say it's okay.

This is another question in addressed in the videos I believe.

You can use your own billing information to set up the different accounts. If you're to manage several accounts with MCC you have to go in and put your own billing info for each account.

I think it'd be quite difficult to get clients to let you have access to anything with their credit cards on file.

Google Engage is great, and by the way, you can sign up if you're in the UK (as I am).

      Regarding this comment John...
PPC is a hard sell to local biz owners from the get go.
I think PPC is a real easy sell, especially if you can start them off with a free £50 voucher.

However, I don't sell "PPC" per se, just as I don't sell SEO. My company sells results, and that's what they buy into.

Frankly, they don't care how those results come in, so long as its legit! Yes, we use all the usual "offline" tools to get those results but when it comes to talking to the client we don't really go into the technical stuff.

Just wanted to get a update on those who have used these for their customers.

How did you use this program to get new customers?

        Interesting thread here!

I signed up for Engage but my profile page has no place to enter the MCC number - their instructions say to enter the MCC number where it says "Your Adwords Account" --my profile page says this, but there is no "box" to enter the MCC number.

I'm also studying to acquire my Google Certified Partner - which should ad a lot of credibility.

I laugh - with all the Google bashing going on with Panda and Penguin, I figure instead of fighting them, just join them. Lot of money to be made if you know adwords inside and out.

Plus, Google is constantly changing the adwords interface, so it takes someone who is sharp and always up to date. Customers will appreciate that, too.

        Cheers!

        Stephen

I got mine in the mail a couple weeks ago. They give you ten cards in the little holder (they're all $100 coupons) and then they email you about 5 new coupons a month.

    Thanks IAN,

I tried signing up just for the video training but no go because I am in South Africa.

    A real PITA.

Solid info worth taking a look at. Lots of businesses are seeing the Google free website banners for their deal with Intuit. This is a way to jump in and redirect the business owners thinking.

Yeah, I believe Engage is always looking for other companies to come on and join. They actually just sent me a packet with a tote bag, and a bunch of goodies, belgian chocolate, coffee, protein bars, LOL. A couple weeks ago they sent me a Google business card holder with even more vouchers.

Seems like they're really making a big PPC push.

This reminds me of the time Adwords banned me for life and didn't tell me why because of their vague TOS
