Howdy...In the "Spirit of Sharing".......I thought I'd relate another "money-maker" that I've proven to "WORK"!....and be "WANTED" by local businesses, professionals and Medicos....especially DENTISTS LOOKING FOR NEW PATIENTS!

(Whenever you see the phrase; "Now Accepting New Patients" in any ad.....it's a "Code" for ...."Hey Folks! We NEED more patients so we can pay our staff and overhead!")

This is a combination of "Print Media" (Newspapers, Magazines, Phone Books)....with "Mobile Websites" reached by QR Codes.

In almost every edition of our local paper are ads by "Chiropractors, Medical Clinics and other Medicals and Professionals (Accountants).... especially Dentists (at least 2 in every edition)

Constantly seeing these Print Ads caused me to wonder; "I Wonder what I could do to help these people get More Patients?"

Well....because I've been doing lots of "Mobile Stuff" lately....a "Hot Flash" came to me;

"Why not put QR Codes in Newspaper Ads....as a test to see;
1) Will people placing ads in newspaper want to also pay to have a Mobile Site with a QR Code IN their ad that brings up their Mobile Site ON mobile phones?
and...
2) Will newspaper readers;
a) SEE the Code and...
b) Scan the Code

Well....test was successful on BOTH counts so....off I go....into the "wild blue yonder"!

And....here's how to REALLY CLEAN UP....about 6 mos b4 the next deadline for your local Phone Book: Contact the BIGGEST advertisers and offer them the following package;

1) A "3 or 4 page Mobile Website"
2) A "QR Code" that links to the mobile site

You provide the QR Codes to the Phone Book Publisher to insert in your client's ads.

Now....for each Mobile Site...you charge a "Set Up Fee" PLUS a Monthly Fee ....for the next 12 mos (Hey! The YP folks charge a HEFTY Monthly for 12 months. Why shouldn't you?

Now....to help you understand what we are offering to Advertisers is;

"A DOORWAY TO THEIR BUSINESS!"

That little business card size ad...that only provides as much info as can be had in a 2" by 3" space.....can NOW lead to HUGE AMOUNTS OF INFO and PICTURES and COUPONS and VIDEOS and.....etc!

I'm calling this one; "QR AD LINKS"....Providing a Doorway to the Internet! Advertisers can now EXPAND the effectiveness of their ads! Consumers can now SCAN ads to discover a whole lot more about an advertiser!

The Newspaper and YP folks ain't gonna be too happy when they find their advertisers cutting back on the size of their ads. (Hey! That's ANOTHER BENEFIT for advertisers! "Save Money on Advertising!")

So....I hope I got some of you folks "Thinking" here.

Thanks for reading,

Don Alm....IN-ovator

PS....as an extra added benefit to this Post....I've included an Ad that ran in the newspaper....WITH QR Code! ENJOY!

    Hi Don,

    Great idea. I actually spoke to someone about putting a QR Code in their newspaper ad and they told me that the newspaper people said QR Codes won't print clear enough to be scanned.

    However, there are a few local magazines that have doctors, chiropractors, and dentists who advertise in them all the time. I've even seen a few with QR codes....which I scanned and was taken to their regular website that was difficult to read.

    I'll be contacting them soon.

      "Display Dept" in this newspaper and Dentist advertiser say they have had NO problems with scanning newsprint.

      Maybe there is a brand of phone that won't pick it up although I haven't heard of one...yet.

      If I find a "problem"...I'll report.

      Well, in today's day and age where newspapers are going out of business left and right, it would be in their best interest to "test" a qr code for free and for them to learn what's printable and not. Heck, it would be a GREAT addition for a newspaper to be in the forefront of technology and them themselves could push the codes for their advertisers for a small additional advertising fee.

      However, I guess its up to each one of us if we want to give it a try, to contact our own local paper and find out what their capabilities are.

      My 2 cents, Eva

    I'm yet to try and find any QRs in newspaper print but I'm sure there have been some in the national papers. I dunno how print quality differs from paper to paper but an interesting point has been made about what the QR will bring for the ad. There is no need for the company to buy a big ad to get all the content onto it. Instead they can just have a smaller ad with a QR code which has all the details. Would newspapers ever get so bold as to DENY the use QR codes in their ads? As in they will not accept them because it affects their income?

    I saw a full page ad yesterday in the St. Petersburg Times for a car dealership with one. It was about an inch square and worked fine Another dealer here uses them too. I haven't seen any smaller than an inch though.

      "Great idea. I actually spoke to someone about putting a QR Code in their newspaper ad and they told me that the newspaper people said QR Codes won't print clear enough to be scanned."

      My Response:

      I live in a small town and I don't think either the Newspaper or local biz are SUPER Smart and On Top of Things here!

      Here's some examples I found in TODAY'S Sunday paper;

      2nd Newsprint Ad of Dentist with QR Code! (Apparently he's getting SOME response otherwise he wouldn't be wasting his money!)

      Also....here's another from a Realtor with THREE QR Codes in their NewPrint Ad.

      And....another Realtor offering a "List of Foreclosures" that can be had by "Scanning their QR Code"!

      And finally.....the NEWSPAPER ITSELF....with a QR Code in THEIR AD doing a "Contest" where readers have to "SCAN THE QR CODE" to enter.

      Now....I KNOW these folks are NOT throwing money away AND....I'm SURE the Newspaper is NOT running a Give-Away Contest if the QR Code in THEIR AD does not Scan!

      So....again....I'd consider providing a "Service" to OffLine biz owners of;

      1) Creating a Mobile Website for them
      2) Creating the QR Code that connects the Mobile site you created.

      And...you can also use DIFFERENT QR Codes for "Testing"! Test which ads pulls best or which newspaper pulls best.

      Don Alm....proving once again, "Money-Making Opportunities are ALL AROUND!"

        Also...in response to "Newpapers getting Wise to the drop in Ad Size".... because Ads with QR Codes could provide so much MORE info than just the Ad can.

        That probably won't come about for quite awhile...unless someone "spills the beans" to the Display Dept.

        Heck...if the newspaper itself is using QR Codes to promote THEIR STUFF...I don't think they'd want to stop other advertisers from using them.

    actually this is a great idea. Newspapers need new ways to keep atracting potential advertisers on this new era and adding QR codes to their ads space should be a great idea for them if not they still living on the past century.

    It's seems like a really good Idea in Australia as it is hardly being done here. As far as it's effectiveness in print. I would say as long as you add a little color, it would probably go a long way...

      Re: Color:

      Ad by the Newspaper is in Color with Code in Greenish. I scanned in using "GrayScale". PLUS....the QR Code is only 1/2" square.

      And...one other Realtor Ad has a reddish hue to QR Code....and....a Magazine for Tourists has 2 QR Codes with their Logo in Color in middle... however....just plain black ink still works best for simplicity and stand-outness. imo

    I just took a look at my local papers. And I do not see many ads with QR codes.

    So I think this is great idea. For advertisers: they can make their ads smaller and pay less money. As well as direct to a website where much mor information could be found. For us: get new clients, obviously.

    And the whole approach is logical. I have not done that yet. We also have many specialty magazines where QR scanning quality should not be a problem.

    I will try to devote time next week to exploit this in details.

    Thanks for your post.

      "We also have many specialty magazines where QR scanning quality should not be a problem."

      Question; If Dentists are using QR Codes in their "NewPrint" ads...over and over again....and Realtors are using QR Codes in "Newsprint" ads....and...a Newspaper ITSELF is using QR Codes....in THEIR OWN PRODUCT! aka "Newsprint"!

      WHY is "scanning quality a Problem"....to you?

      Just curious because....in the past hour....I talked with 6 different business Owners and told them (by phone) that I could;
      1) CUT their Ad costs in Half
      and...
      2) Provide a "DoorWay" for "Newspaper Readers" to see their WebSite

      ...by placing a certain "Box" in their ads that will let potential customers get into their Website!

      And.....EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE BIZ OWNERS.....WERE INTERESTED ENOUGH TO ....MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!

      So....maybe it all depends on "what" ....you....believe in!

      If....you....do NOT "believe" that QR Codes in Newsprint can be scanned... well....I guess they can't be!

      Don Alm....who "believes" QR Codes in Newspapers CAN be scanned

        As always, way to go Don.

        And I do seem to see more QR Codes around, not just in ads, I just had a bill that included a QR Code!

    Seen one in the local paper today for a high school, it didn't scan though using iPhone 3G and inigma app. I was only about 1inch square and camera must have been too far away when the QR was in focus.

    Hey Don!
    I really want to try this. You are the BEST in giving such great ideas Thank you so much!

    Questions- do you call these business owners or go to their place of business?
    If you call, can you help me out with a script, this is where I struggle.
    I don't know if I'm saying the right thing to close the deal.
    Any help you can offer in this area would be much appreciative
