Nice offering you have there. Any coupons for warriors Anyway, if you are just getting started and are short of cash, take a look at this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...step-step.html This approach really works. Just try it out, you'll see.

Sure, just email me directly through the site and Ill sort you out.

Unlike everyone else, Im a big fan of face to face. I found having gone from business to business in my local area, that I would generally only need to visit about 5-10 businesses before I landed a client. And in most cases, that client became a repeat client, or gave great referrals, which brought me more work.

Thats a pretty decent conversion rate and it cost me nothing, except a bit of my time.

I believe face to face to be much more powerful than telemarketing. Sure, you can probably cover more ground calling than banging on doors, but theres no personal element to it.

The immediate issue you'll face when you try to pull clients online is having to compete with everyone else, including indian SEO consultants who offer ridiculously cheap rates. If you try to compete with people like this, your business is bound to fail.

Unless of course you hire them

It's interesting that you say that. I tried that approach and had a really nice flyer. I went to around 100 or so businesses over 3 or 4 days in the blazing sun (I might add). Anyway, I never got a single call back so my experience definitely does not mirror yours. What was your approach and how did you close them, if you're inclined to share?

            Sure.

I printed off business cards. The costs were very low ($20 for 1,000 cards or something)

I put on some smart business clothing, brushed my teeth and covered myself in a nice aftershave. Might seem trivial, but I think its important!

I then went door to door.....

At this point I had absolutely no intention of selling anything. I just wanted to make myself known.

So my strategy was exactly this.....

I would enter the business, and say .."Hi my name's John, Im just in the area raising awareness about my web development business, would it be okay to leave my card?"

....and i left it at that.

I wasnt being forceful in any way and I think they appreciated that.

Many said thanks, and I went on my way. Others began asking questions, which immediately told me they needed help.

Here's one way to get going on a budget.

First let me mention that this is a good method since it positions you as a person of authority and a business owner, rather then some freelancer that local businesses might be unsure if they can trust.

Goto your local news website that has an employment section.

Post an ad in the Sales section saying you're looking for sales reps - explain in the ad that it's commission based starting at 10%.

Use surveymonkey.com and build a short survey that you will link people to fill out from the classified ad. This keeps it organized and looks like you have a legitimate filtering process, even if you are willing to take on anybody.

Goto skype and purchase one of the monthly unlimited calling promo deals, I've currently got unlimited world-wide calling for 15 dollars a month.

Find the sales rep you like, give them some basic training on your services - if they have no experience with cold calling give them some e-books and material to learn about telemarketing.

I know some people will think that a sales rep won't be able to provide the same level of information to a prospect on your services since they won't be as experienced. But, really - I know one of my personal problems is going too deep into the technical stuff when a prospect asks me a question.

I know a guy that sells $3,000 social media packages and he doesn't have a clue about any of the inner-workings. But, it makes him easy to speak on a level that they understand.

Now, your sales rep should have a smart phone or computer - which they can download skype onto, and use your account to make unlimited calls.

When your sales rep is first starting out give them a script focused on just setting the appointment. This is where you are put into a position of authority and credibility since you actually have an employee setting appointments for you.

Put together a Google doc and share it with your new sales rep. Gather a list of companies for them to contact and share it in the Google doc. also leave an area for them to put the status of each call.

Lastly, the big mistake I made that you can easily avoid... make sure you agree on a daily quota for leads generated.

It's just an appointment so they should be able to give you atleast 1 lead per 50 calls!!

    Fly at 'er!!

I read imsince2003's method yesterday. Nice and solid.

But this method which wilder1047 mentions is just awesome! I have not seen a similar one before. I will definitely add it to my arsenal.

I guess I have just one question. After you get the lead do you make further contacts and negotiations yourself?

And approximately how much is advertisement? Can craigslist be used for that?

    Thanks.

The whole idea of the telemarketer you've hired is to set up an appointment for you.

Once they become more experienced you can look into them closing sales for you over the phone, but, even with all the knowledge we have in our own services, we still have difficulties closing over the phone ourselves.

I offer them 10% commission on any warm leads they've brought to me that I end up closing.

That 10% includes say an SEO deal that I ended up closing, I will give them 10% of the monthly recurring charge to the client. So, after a while it will give them a nice residual income - which still is no money out of your pocket up front!!

I've used craigslist with a much lower response rate for whatever reason that may be..

The local classifieds I used are free - Craiglist will charge you for listings in larger cities.

Ask that one for referrals. If you don't want to ask for referrals maybe you could start cold calling. If you're not into cold calling how about direct mail? If you're not into direct mailing how about Linkedin? If' not not in to Linkedin how about Criagslist? I could go on and on, but I think I gave you a few to go on.

    Hope that helps!

Offer your services to another SEO / web design company. Move horizontally, not vertically.

Here's some motivation for you - I'm in South Carolina and I am killing it offline.

I know that Florence is a small, boring city, but you have to change your attitude if you want to make this happen for yourself. If nothing is working there, take a look at some of the cities around you - Myrtle, Sumter, Camden, etc.

Hire an appointment setter on Craigslist, offer current client something else, the list really goes on and on.

Ask your one client for referrals! Don't be shy!

    Keep at it!

Do you have a good relationship with your current client? If so, ask them if they can be the "star" of one of your ads. Them them that you want them to do an endorsement ad for you. A full page ad in magazines, and also an ad on the internet. Make it look like a real endorsement, and have them speak in 3rd person about you. Tweak it till it's perfect, then launch. Case studies are very important when marketing your services.
