I got my first offline sale the other day, I rang a business owner up offering SEO services not really knowing what I was doing, he wasn't really interested since he did most SEO himself, though didn't really have time for it.. sort of like "I know I need to do everything your saying, I just don't have time for it, and I'm not willing to pay for it since I can do it myself"

Thinking on my feet, I recalled a post here about doing free seo reports, so I offered to send him a report free about his current ranks and what we could do. He gladly gave me his email.

Now I'd put the phone down I had no idea what I was doing, so I did some keyword research, competitive research and summarized it in 2-3 pages, I then added 2-3 more pages about how our different services could help him, from SEO to Email marketing, and pure Link building (figured it'd tie in with his current efforts).

He rang back almost as soon as i'd emailed him & said he'd be interested in paying £100 for some link building.

We setup an appointment to discuss it the next evening, but he was too busy to come.

We rearranged twice and he'd not turned up both times. I'd basically given up on him coming.

A week later my college who I share an office with basically forced me to call him back, and he said he'd be round in the next hour.

We talked about it & he ended up buying the link building as well as a website redesign for a further £100.

So £200 up. 35 phone calls total. Took about 2 leisurely hours max.

Now I'm putting together a presentation I can use when I meet business owners face to face since this one was a bit of a shambles/wing it job.

Overall though pretty chuffed.

Congratulations. Action beats thinking about action. (Oops...I'm doing the latter again. Gotta go...)

Fantastic. I don't think it was such a shambles since you got the sale. In the future, don't over think it.

When I owned my business, people who were too polished and seemed desperate never got my business. You want instead to sound really knowledgable and a bet as if you are already so busy that if you get their business or not, no big deal.

    Congratulations and good luck. :-)

The thing when dealing with small business owners is sometimes it's a struggle to stay on top of their mind. They have so much going on that it never hurts to remind them again of you and your services. I don't think what happen to you is too uncommon especially since he didn't really want the services in the first place. I actually think you did a great job on selling him and following up on the sale.

    Good job my man!
