Does anyone else feel Google Places is confusing to learn

Hi Everyone

I had a chat with a fellow warrior on the phone a couple of weeks ago who suggested I forget the online scene and concentrate on offline services, possible Google Places

I have seen videos on how to fill them in, but when it comes to all the other aspects I feel completely confused

I just saw someone recommended - Local Search Ranking Factors | Local SEO Best Practices for Ranking in Google Places but reading that, there seems to be so so many factors its overwhelming

Am i reading to much into it, or is it just a case of going out there and seeing what happens

I want to help companies but when i don't feel confident, i dont think its right to go there...

In a way i feel maybe mobile websites maybe more my scene but Google Places seems to be a good entry level service

Any suggestions would be great to get my head around it

    Rob,

I think if you go with the basics, that a places listing can only help a business in the long run, then follow along with how things work and move ahead with offering it. A business with a listing is in a lot better position than one without.

One thing I am seeing is that the listing can continue to develop with the different options (reviews, pictures, etc.) which helps to keep it current and relevant.

The biggest thing is to not offer a '100% guarantee' on the placement of the listing as things are continually changing. A monthly maintenance fee will help to keep things going for the long term.

And don't forget the other aspects like SEO optimized site, link building, etc. that will really put things into overdrive.

Best bet is to plow ahead and learn as you go. To me, experience is your best teacher.

    Thanks,

    John

      Hi John

Thats a terrific motivational reply, thankyou very much

I suppose it's like anything really, start small and work upwards

It's only because I have seen so many people query things so it reads as though it maybe is more complicated that it is

      Thanks again, alot happier

I highly recommend joining the War Room here, there's several free products in there (including mine!) that will give you a solid foundation on how to really tackle it step by step. It's just like anything else - it takes a while to learn but it's very easy to systemize and you'll be a pro in no time.

Thanks very much, I will have a look. Starting to feel much more confident now

SEO is fine as I have been doing it for years but feel a complete newbie when it comes to places

      Thanks again

        Rob,

Every one has to start somewhere, but if you understand SEO, then that will help immensely. You want to be able to offer a complete plan based on what the prospect is doing already, what is working, what isn't, etc.

And somacorellc advice is solid. The other thing I have found is if you need help, this is the place to come. Have never interacted with a more helpful group of professionals.

        Thanks,

        John
