Ping directory listing to improve Google Places Rank?

Over a month ago I went to every directory listing (I could find) to build up citations for a Google Places page. When I look at Yahoo Site explore to see what back links I have, I don't see all the citations/directory listings - only 3 of them!

Maybe they didn't get indexed?

My places page isn't ranking well either - so I really think something went wrong with getting citations.

Should I use pingler and submit each url that has that directory listing/citation (Judys Book, Insider pages, Merchant Circle etc...)

    If you're looking for citations, you're best bet is to use Darren Shaw's Local Citation Finder.

    As far as pinging the citations goes, you'll get mixed reviews on that. I'm in the camp that it doesn't hurt, and may even help, but others will probably scoff at that.

    My advice would be to tweet (on Twitter) the links to the pages that the citations are on.

    Pinging will hurt more than help. Pinging itself via RSS feed is entirely useless and a waste of time. Even linklicious has changed their system. Pingler, won't work. You might as well create a backlink to the citation instead of pinging it.

    Google bot doesn't speed up the places algorithm. Completely different things... pinging at the very least is useless for local listings. I believe it could actually HURT though but that is still up for debate.

    Well, I think the strategy is not anymore effective. Maybe you can research for another.
