Charging for Website + Hosting = ???

Hey guys, I know there is a similar thread to this one down below but it didn't really solve my situation here. So sorry for making a similar thread.

(My First Client) A friend is recommending me to a local photographer who needs a website built. I was thinking a nice looking, easy-to-use WP site and a monthly hosting charge.

My question is, how much would you guys charge for this? I have a Fiverr guy I've used in the past that I'm in direct contact with so I was going to get him to build the WP site for me and I was going to offer my client hosting on my Godaddy account. This being my first rodeo, I'm not sure of a good price to quote her for the site build and hosting/month. She's not wanting a HUGE site, just something she can direct her clients to and that's easy to use.

Thanks in advance.

How much will your costs be?
Will you be offering maintainance or just hosting?
Basically it depends on what it will cost you in time and outsourcing plus what you are offering.

It it will cost you $50 and maybe an hour or two of your time it may be $299 up front.
If you are just offering hosting I think $10 to $20 a month is fair to most.

But if you plan to work on his site for 2 to 5 hours a month $500 dollars a month may be fair. Or let's say the website will be advanced and you are looking at $500 in costs plus serveral hours of your time in which case $1,000 or more makes sense.

Of course what he wants and what his budget can affords matters too. He may want a $3,000 website but just have a budget for $300.

That's why I say with web design you talk to them and find out what they want and give a custom quote. Using my example you might want to give him two quotes one for his budget and one for what he wants. Let him choose which way to go.

Thanks for the reply. The question was mainly for the hosting because I've never done anything like that. I suppose $9.99 a month sounds good. From what he said, he just wants a fairly simple website that's easy to use. After having it made, revised a bit and showing him how to use it, I'm thinking $399 will be a fair deal.

I was able to get someone with basically no money to agree to $500 for a website. The catch? 10 payments of $50. Hosting/website maintenance at $49/month on a dedicated server. You make sure they know that you do backups, check the site, only your customers are on your server, etc. That's how I do it. Starting out, you could always lower that number to $29/month or even $19/month. Just remember that one client saying "yes" to $49 is worth more than 2 clients at $19/month so you have to decide how you want to run your business.

I do $1k to $2k for the site plus $15/month hosting or $150/year. Most people pay everything up front and forget about it.

It is important what his budget is. Also, how much time it will take. I would ask $500 for the website and do an awesome job and win his trust, and then offer him a monthly $400 SEO package, and make your profit on the SEO package. If you look at $400 a month, it converts to be about $5,000 a year.

Alternately, one method that works is to give him the website free with a six month SEO package, and charge $400 a month, and get a six month agreement. That way you are really making $2,400 for the website and throwing in a little SEO ($400 a month times six months equals $2,400).

Charge her just how copywriters and marketing consultants do. Flat fee up front, plus a residual charge each month for maintenance of the website.
