Need help with facebook for offline client

Hello warriors,

I need your help with regards to a question I have about facebook, which I can't seem to find an answer to. But this info, if someone can answer me, can be quite helpful to other off liners, in both getting new clients and offering additional things to existing clients.

Anyway, I have a potential client who does wedding photography. He wants me to help him set up a facebook fan page etc. (no problems here) but another and really the big thing he wants, is to be able to search for people based on their facebook status changing to "engaged"

I wasn't aware one could search FB by status changes, but he claims some photographer he knows is doing just that. Yet after about 30 minutes of searching google I can't seem to find a way to do this.

And so my question is: How can one search through facebook (people that you are not friends with) based on their relationship status changing to "engaged" (or frankly single) Can you still do this? Any automated tools to make this easier/quicker?

Obviously if we can do this, then this opens a whole new door for working with anyone from flower shops, bridal dresses, wedding planners and even hotels that cater to weddings.

Don't let me down warriors! I need that answer by tomorrow for our meeting, even if we can't do it anymore, I'd like to know that for sure.

I'm pretty sure that he's referring to facebook ads & you absolutely can target facebook users by relationship status when creating your ad. Engaged is definitely an option.

If you go to Facebook.com/ads you will be able to do ppc with them, and specify who sees your ad depending on their status, as well as many other things. Then you can have the ad link to their fb page, or their website.

Very good idea actually and yes it is thru facebook ads. The problem is catching someone's attention uniquely that this applies to.

I guess on the same token a lawyer can watch for that same change in reverse and sell divorce services. While I was in rentals, the single biggest demographic for renting apartments was recently separated working professional females.

On a related note, is anyone else having trouble selling PPC services to businesses? It is my holy grail service but an extremely hard sell. But if I approach it with the above example, wow, they may go for it. BTW, I was recently married and saw so many opportunities for marketing wedding services that I bet someone can make a full time income off just that.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

Facebook ads are pretty cool for targeting. Here is another idea. Have your place of business give a discount or something for free in order for their current customers or clients to like their facebook fanpage. Then only target friends of those people on facebook ads.

When you do that it will show in the ad that the friend likes this fan page and that gets a ton more clicks and a ton more likes to the fanpage.

Facebook ads are indeed pretty awesome as far as being able to target specific groups is concerned.

However, this potential client was not talking about ads. What he wants is to search all people on facebook (including none friended people, actually he doesn't even have an fb account) based on their status being changed to engaged. He also wanted the ability to save those searches, so when he searches a week later only new people would show up - though I am pretty sure that can't be done without some 3rd party program (which I don't think even exists)

But the "search based on status" is the thing I am trying to figure out. Can it be done? I've read a dozen articles so far and it seems like either it can be done, or could be done in the past, but I just can't figure out if it can still be done, or how to do it.

When I search people I get location, education and workplace (searching under "people" tab) The other possibility is to search under "public posts" tab for "status changed to engaged" but that only gives like 5 results, none of which are of people changing their status to engaged.

Anyone else has any ideas on this?

This was a feature in Facebook - Advanced Search Beta 2.0 & 2.2 could search users by relationship status as well as many other parameters. It was a great tool, but Facebook decided to eliminate it. They also eliminated the Apps on Facebook that had this feature. I'm not sure why, but imagine it was being abused. You can still find people by relationship status, but only if they are on your friends list. One idea is that there are several Facebook Groups for "Engaged People". You can search "Engaged" and it will bring up these groups and you can find prospects for your business by seeing their list of members. Good Luck!
