Hello Fellow Warriors

I am looking for some help. I help offline business with facebook fanpages. I am just getting going. I am looking for some help. I am looking for 10, 15, or 25 tips to grow a fan page in a local area. So if i have a business in Cinncinnatia Ohio, we dont want fans on our page in Seatle Washinton for example. It is not that we dont want them, however they arent going to buy in seatle, if its a restaurant.

Please post anything that will help me, and if you have seen a wso, please share link
Thanks

One option is to do facebook ads. You can choose which facebook users actually see your ad which means you can set up the ad so that only people in Cincinnati will see it. BTW, you can be very selective who see your fb ads, not just city. Now about the ad, in it maybe offer a free dessert or % off for liking the page.

Does the business have an existing list of customers? If so, email them that same offer for liking the page and link to it. Also, have signage in the restaurant inviting people to like the page, maybe with a qr code that once scanned with their phone takes them directly to the page.

      Crawley Bug great advice.
      RentItNow John's advice good too.
Many local businesses overlook capturing customers already in their businesses. Put QR code to "like us on facebook" on menus, sales tickets, at register, on front door, reception desk, postcard to current list or even on an email if you have that list. Offer instant coupon if they like you or $ off next visit or a refer a friend coupon.
Get best customers and employees to let you post the QR code on their FB page and even ask client's accountant, insurance agent, friends OK to do the same. A contest to get 500 likes by a certain time to have a chance for free dinner for two or four might work.
Leverage local connections to build local likes.

      Good luck!

Its very very difficult to get those kind of targeted fans. The only alternative is Facebook ads. but facebook ads cost a lot . I dnt know if you can afford the prices

Facebook ads are prob most effective because they are on facebook logged in and only have to click a like button.

Offers work a bit...had success with existing customers offering them a potential prize to like on facebook but the action sequence then becomes, go home, log into facebook, find the page and like it.

Another option I've not tested is a QR code to visit the page and let them like it then. Post them all over.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

what about using classifieds locally and including your facebook page link or offering something free in a classified e,g free drink free admission. and they have to claim coupon on your fb page.
    regards

BarbaraP's advice is great. When the business has a website, don't forget to put up a like us on facebook, or follow us on twitter, or something else. A Facebook 'share' button is also an advisable link to have in a website if it is constantly updated.

Other than this, you can also advertise the Facebook fan page yourself. Share the news into your own news feed to get the word out to your contacts about the company that you are advertising.

In my opinion, Facebook marketing is very powerful but getting targeted prospects and clients out of this is very hard to do...

Yes it;s tricky to target specific users/customers but FB ads are cheaper than AdWords. Problem with FB is that the penetration and buy-in is lower than AdWords. What about driving prospects via Twitter (search local)?

Qr Codes is also a great suggestion.

Try linking the Facebook Like button's URL to a Dynamic QR Code with the phrase: "Scan to Like Us on Facebook!". Place the Code on stickers in the local area or ads. With this type of Code you can also change it as well as schedule a series of messages/info/content across a campaign, without replacing the printed image.

Facebook ads are growing per day but it cant catch certain people you want to reach them. You cant say how many people really need the product you are promoting on facebook page.

Do a group deal like Groupon, right from the Facebook fan page.

Tell the existing fans that if the page gets a certain number of Likes from people in the target area, the business will offer something really attractive to everyone.

But to prove that they are really fans in the area, after Liking the page they have to take a photo on their mobile phones of a local well-known landmark with their faces in it (to prove the locality) and post on the fan page.

Once it reaches critical mass, release that (coupon / whatever) offer!

Have you tried create a facebook account located in the Cinncinnatia Ohio and make friends only with who located in the same place and invite them to your fan page?I think your problem is just how to make friends with the people who might be interested in your product, cause there're too much people live there. You're a marketer I think you know how to find them.BTW if you have a facebook account manage tool it will help too.You can add friends automatically. If your fan page is impressive I think you'll get tons of fans soon.Hope it helps.

I often use Facebook, but don't have the funds to buy ad space. So what I do, is post to my wall, and invite my friends to post to their wall, and send the invite along. This, I believe, gets me out further than the 50+ friends I have listed, and which often does generate some clicks to those sites I list. Now if I could just get paid for sending traffic to those sites, I would be happy.

Here are my top 5 for the restaurant industry.

    1. Have a "Like" our Fan Page special (could be a QR code) in the store and people get real time deals by liking the page. Who needs Groupon?
    2. Interact as the Page of the client and comment and engage on other very high traffic Fan Pages.
    3. Create a fun Fan Page, Like....365 Things to do in Cincinnati. That page will grow much faster and you would be in control of postings. You can also use that for future clients
    4. Connect with other businesses and in area and cross promote on each others Fan Pages. You never want to have every post about your own business.
    5. Have each of the employees create a separate personal page, for example, Claudine at Fluxx (thats a real personal profile), have them add friends and require them to check in and promote page.

Those are my top 5, would have to charge you for the other 15 ideas including top FB Ad strategy...haha...Goodluck !!
