Google Places, Google Page 1. ? Someone help a confused Brit.

Hi Warriors,
thanks for your time AGAIN.!!!

I am interested in possibly doing google places for local business's , but a bit confused.:confused:

1. What is the difference between ranking on page 1 google, and ranking on google places?

2. Do you have to seo clients site in order to rank their google places page?

3. Is google places just like a small info listing of their site?

4. Can a google places listing show up higher than their website?

    Karen,

    Google Places allows business owners to update and manage their physical business location information. This information can be used to update their business listing so that it appears correctly within Google Maps and associated Google properties and search and Display Network sites.

    Locally the owner in the top 7pack will out beat a website that is ranking for that keyword..

    For example.. Say you want your site to rank for Mexico rugs.. If someone has claimed and optimized their Google Places, they will show up first instead of just a regular website for the same keyword.

    So yes their google places listing can rank higher than their website, but essentially if someone checks out their GP listing, they can just click on their website and land on their homepage.

    There are quite a few resources that you can read about Google Places to learn the in's and out's..

    3. Is google places just like a small info listing of their site? No its a business listing that Google offers business to show the business information to google searches looking for info on that business or service like phone number, location etc

    4. Can a google places listing show up higher than their website? Yes

    You may want to pick up some WSO on Google Places and I think you will learn alot, hope this helps!
