My Flyer Promotion Experiment & Results

I got this idea from a thread here about using QR codes that lead to a Clickbank product on a flyer and posting it at supermarkets, malls, bus stops, etc.

Well, I decided to tweak it a little bit to make it accessible to everyone who has an internet connection, not just folks with the technology for QR codes on their phones.

Here's what I did:

1. Selected a popular weight loss Clickbank product.

2. Bought a .info domain from GoDaddy that was catchy and fit the niche.

3. Printed up a half page flyer promoting the product with some catchy ad copy.

4. Went to the local copy place and ran off 1000 flyers (500 pages total since I fit two flyers on 1 page). Then, I cut them all up into half page flyers.

5. Went through my complex (I live in a townhouse complex) and stuck them on doors, underneath windshield wipers, etc. That putout about 250 flyers. I then went to three other townhouse complexes and did the same. This took me 2 full days to do (about 8 hours each day - finished at 4 pm yesterday).

Didn't get any sales the first two days but just checked my Clickbank account and have made 3 sales so far.

Even if I get a 1% conversion, that's 10 sales. The product pays $34.89 per sale, so that would be about $349.

That's not bad for 16 hours of work. Of course, the flyers cost me $48 to print. So, that would be about $300/16 = $18.75 per hour.

Sure, it's a little work, but, since I only work about 1-2 hours per day on my IM business, this is a good way for me to get out, get some exercise, and make some extra cash.

I'll report back on how many sales I get. I'm banking on at least 10, since wieght loss is a big issue for middle aged folks, and that's the majority of residents in these townhouse villages.

Well done for taking a bit of initiative.

With an attitude like that, you can't really fail. You now just need to find something that represents higher leverage use of your time.

    Good luck,

    Will

    Good job. Rinse and repeat.

Once you have a formula down, automate the process. Hire young adults at minimum wage to deliver flyers.

16 hours of work makes (on average) $300

    16 hours of work * $8.50 = $136

Your profit is (on average) $164

Time to map out all townhome complexes in your area!

Great Info.. It would be even better if you're promoting a product that charges your customers monthly recurring fee This way, you would be earning much more passive incomes for many months to come. The time and effort which you put in to promoting IM products will definitely be more worthwhile.

All the best, you're doing great

    God Bless,
    Jeremiah

Newbie here, but was just wondering (even though I don't think I would try this myself):
      1. Can you generate a different QR code for the same landing page? Or, will the QR code always be the same for a given landing page

      2. Any concerns with going to townhomes, parking lots, etc. I'm not saying it won't work, just wondering if those types of places would have 'restrictions' on the distribution of flyers.

I had a similar idea over the weekend. I was thinking outside a college football stadium on game day as the crowd was streaming in, but the university would probably consider the stadium to be 'private property' (I was going to call campus police to check). But I was wondering if the sidewalk would be considered private property.

      Cheers,
      HalfSwede

Thanks for providing this great experiment, as Eddie Titan has mentioned, you could even outsource it to young adults at the minimum wage - pure profit.

    Very creative this.

I have seen this somewhere before. Used with CPA marketing and at those conventions.

Great, and i hope you do good. Just don't give up.

1 more sale so far a total of 4. I think it will take up to 7 days to see the full result. However, I'm getting somewhat addicted to this! Thanks to the person who mentioned targeting universities. I only live about 3-4 miles from the ASU main campus and several of the dorms.

Now, just wondering what to market to the college kids? Perhaps something that teaches study shortcuts or memorization tricks?

I think this needs to be refined because of the massive
        time commitment, but...

Good for you by using outside the box thinking. Keep expanding
on using Guerrilla tactics for lead generation.

I would also try to pinpoint where the most opportunity would
be... and right now is a HUGE opportunity as the 'I'm gonna
drop some weight" New Years resolutions are in high gear.

Give them a 'fast and easy' solution when they are thinking
        about it most. Marketing 101

    1. Make sure you don't only use a QR code. Wherever there is a QR code you should ALWAYS have a text version of the link as well. If you only use QR codes you are wiping out a lot of potential prospects.

    2. I think you could get even more targeted. Weight loss is a common problem but since you are delivering the flyers yourself you want to make sure you get the biggest bang for your buck. Think about places where you could hand out a lot of flyers in a very short amount of time.

I have a few cinemas near me that fill up with hundreds of cars every night... and it's going to be a different audience every single night. You could turn up and place them on every windshield in the carpark. You could easily hit a hundred cars in an hour. Even better if the offer was targeted to movie goers. Maybe a netflix trial or something similar.

Think about universities as well. These are a very targeted group of people.

Think about going into local newsagents and slipping your weight loss flyers into the middle of food magazines.

In the U.S. city I live in leaving flyers on car windshields is a trespassing violation. Apartment complexes and townhouses have city regulations as well as their own individual posted restrictions. In some cities you WILL be fined or possibly even go to jail. Don't laugh this off because I do know some this has happened to.

I am not trying to squash your enthusiasm. I think your taking action is great and I wish you lots of success. Just be sure you play by the rules.

Thanks for your concern. I don't know the regs, but every morning I have at least one flyer on my door from a pizza delivery place, etc. I'm sure there won't be any issues as long as you don't put them in mailboxes. I think the police in my city wouldn't even respond to something like that. they are way too busy with actual crime.

When I did flyer marketing with a friend in the States, we did a CPA for a "memory brain game" (Landing page stated that students would get better concentration, memory improvement from playing the games) on MaxBounty... It was $1.75 or $2 per lead.

Not sure if they have it still. Made a killing with college kids for that specific CPA.

I like the idea of combining good old fashioned offline marketing with Internet affiliate marketing. Most people have access to the web these days, so if you're hitting up the right audience with your flyers, you're bound to make sales. Good stuff.

Sounds like you are redirecting your leads directly to the Clickbank product page. Imagine if you gave away a freebie report on weight loss and used a squeeze page. You could then build a list and sell multiple products to them.

    Just a thought.
