What are your top lead generation tips for offline clients? Here's 5 to start:

Aside from the generic "build site(s)", "rank Google places" etc. what "insider tips" do you have for lead generation if you supply leads to your clients? This can be anything from cool coupon ideas, to a neat Google Places strategy, to general info that may be useful to people entering this space. I thought it'd be fun to have a thread will all kinds of cool ideas for people to share.

Here are five to start off with:
1) Call Tracking
If generating calls is part of your strategy, use call tracking services so that you have data (e.g. calls) to show your client that your efforts are adding value to their business.

2) A.B.L. (Always Be Looking)
You probably have heard of A.B.C. (Always Be Closing), but I like to say Always Be Looking. You never know when you'll meet someone that could be a good lead for a client of yours (or yourself). Just because it's a face-to-face lead, no reason not to send them to your client and let them know where it came from.

3) Look To Yourself First
This may sound very basic, but think out what would cause you to call or email your client if someone else was working to get you to perform a call to action. For instance, if you are working with a restaurant, is there something creative they could do to get you in the door beyond the normal coupons etc.? For example, what if they became known for truly surprise birthdays. When you go for a birthday most people expect the usual cake and singing servers will come. What if you can arrange this online through their site, and have a choice of unique things that the restaurant will do for an extra fee (be creative and have a range of fun stuff, from silly: they spell out happy birthday with the food to the manager coming over at the end to give a little gift in lieu of a cake). Then you can promote the restaurant as having this birthday niche on and offline + the benefit of extra revenue for the restaurant.

4) True Video SEO:
As a lot of WSO's and threads have talked about, use Video marketing and SEO to generate leads. Doing it through YouTube is a great way to get some quick results, but for more control use true Video SEO by using similar strategies but having the video hosted by a third party. This will get pages/sites ranked as opposed to videos. A lot more value for both your client and to generate leads if you can send someone to a site vs. YouTube.

5) Double Coupons:
I have not done this but I think it would be a good idea if you distribute physical coupons with a twist. Find 2 local businesses that would be good partners (or maybe they already are). For example a local shoe store and shoe repair place. Create 1 coupon for both businesses (split in 1/2), with an offer for each. If the customer uses it at both places (you could track through a custom whole punch you get made) the the customer gets something (e.g. free shoe polish). On top of this it will save costs for everyone.

Twitter. Right now I have about 350 followers (@somacore if you're interested) and am following about 250 people. It took a few months to build to that point, but every so often a user will tweet that they need some help with some web thing or whatever. Pay attention to your tweets - I've landed three clients this way just by being proactive and contacting them to help them out. You never know what's out there.

So in my own tests (as well as a lot of info on web) I have not been able to find that embedding YT videos gives your site any SEO value. Logically it makes sense, anyone could embed a YT video (if it's allowed) and stick the content on their site, so why would a search engine give it any value? By hosting video yourself (if you either use the right provider or program yourself), you have complete control about who can share, controls, ads everything. On top of this, if done right you can get a lot of great SEO value out of videos on your site. There are many ways to do this, and the results can either be landing pages being indexed, or the index page. There are a lot more steps than throwing up a YT video, and it takes time to getting indexed, but you will have complete control over the content. (If there is enough interest, I might put a WSO together on this.)

Thanks. I'll have to consider this. What I have been doing is pointing all of my video marketing to the client's website or landing page. I didn't consider making a landing page with hosted video that is sharable for an extra kick in SEO. I'd be interested in learning more.
