Is it a good idea to show ThemeForest wordpress themes as an option to a client?

Hi Everyone!

Is it a good idea to show ThemeForest wordpress themes to prospective clients as an option for their website? I would explain that I would buy a license and install and edit the theme on their website. Do you think it's a good idea to do this or a bad one?

The reason I want to to this is that some of the themes there look great and can be used as a selling tool, the client will be impressed and keen to have one on these cool themes on his site. If I do this what's the best way to do it? Just show him the themes on the themeforest site or put them on a DVD? Or even show some screen shots printed out? What method will make the best impression.

How do you presell a html web design or theme to a client?

    I'd bring the laptop, have a few demos saved on my hard drive and say - here's the basic structure of what your site might look like, of course with your logo and all.

    Look, you can choose between this, this and this, or even this one... do you like it? Which one would you want for your website?

    If he picks one and says "this one I guess", you're half-done closing the sale.

      Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking too, show him 3 or 4 and say "Which one do you want?", rather than "Do you want a website?".

    Also, why do you use themeforest instead of getting the client to have a bespoke design?

      Hi Chris

      This is before I make the sale, this is part of the sales pitch, when I first meet the client. This lets me have something tangible to show the client and also he can suggest things, if he likes the look of a theme.

      The reason for showing a Themeforest theme is cost; They can get good a looking site at a very cheap price. If they want a bespoke theme, I can get that done or do it with something like StudioPress but it will cost them at least $300-$400. But the ones on themeforest are just as good and they are already done for certain offline niches, so why not use those!

      The process is like buying a product i.e "Here are 4 themes I recommend, which one do you want?". Rather than getting into at creative or technical discussion about: "What sort of site would you like?", which will take much more time.

    Hey Madison Avenue, this seems like a great way to sell a website to your clients to me. If you'll have internet access during the presentation, it could be worthwhile having browser tabs open with the live previews of each potential theme you've selected so that the demonstration feels more interactive too.

    Also, I prefer to limit myself to 5 themes during an initial meeting with clients. Too many options can get in the way of a decision! Also, if they really like one of them except for a few things, you have a good basis to choose a further 5 options for them to look at next time.

    You know I've always wondered why ThemeForest does't have an unbranded "Reseller" option like say MonsterTemplates, where folks like us could display all the possibilities to prospects without giving away the cost of the template.

    I haven't done this myself, but how about choosing a few themes to show a prospect and asking the theme designers if you can include some screenshots to show as a mock up?

    Some of those themes have so many options I'd almost be afraid to show a live example to the prospect, but as long as you know their requirements and that the theme will meet them, I'd go with static images either online, from a cd or printed.

      Good point! If the "Live Preview" for ThemeForest themes isn't right for you, most also have a "Screenshots" button you could show those instead.

    This is a GREAT question asked. I myself have just put forth "budget web site services" at $199 to start BUT the themes im using are showing for $29. Im afraid the client may say "hey just $29 for this why you charging me $199 or more"

    I know we still do some tweaking to it but by having a very low price next to it makes it hard to really show off ideas to clients.

    I just got TemplateSold prem package for 13 months so I have access to a lot of stuff but all with prices next to it

    ummm....you CAN have some unbranded stuff is you want. Download the screenshots and right click and save....or go to live preview and take a screenshot. If you want to edit it...if you have Photoshop, then crop out what you want. I mean you are purchasing it and you need to let them know they are getting a choice of 3-4 STOCK themes....custom will cost them $X amount. All hey really need to see is the picture of what they will get and if you are using several over and over...upload a demo version on your website to show them one you have bought it.

      I think with Themeforest it's a double edge sword. On one hand you have some really great themes to show, but on the other if you send your clients theme hunting, they will spend hours looking and not know if the theme is a good one. Based on the back end.

      I just updated my site with a link to theme forest and all its offerings. I also have a few suggested themes I like to work with.

      Most of the time your client will want you to guide them to the best choice so if its a theme on TF, flex theme or what ever, your client just wants to see you do some good work and get them results.
