Free websites with hosting - question...

I am offering some free website design, and charging $35 per month for the hosting and maintenance. Maintenance being site backups, software updates (wordpress), and minimal changing to content.

My question is how should I handle their hosting? Should I just buy a new hosting account with hostgator for each new client, or add them to my hosting account?

I would think a new account for each client would be best.

I don't want them to have to do anything to get their website up and running. I get them hosting and their domain name for them, and just bill them the $35 per month.

The smallest hosting plan on hostgator is only like $4 per month, so no big deal.

Just wondering what you guys are doing, and what would be best.

Thanks
Jason

I would stay away from Dreamhost. I know people use them, but I have never been impressed. They don't use cpanel, so the admin area is very clunky.

With that said, you may want to look at a reseller account.

You can set up individual accounts, with a single log in, or access the clients site from the WHM admin area. The other thing that is nice, you get the WHMCS or WHM AutoPilot Client Management / Billing software, which sets up your billing and automates the sign up process. Have e used it before and it works nice.

When I get up to offering hosting, a reseller account is what I will use.

    Thanks,

    John

Thanks. I think I will get the HostGator reseller so that I can manage everything with hosting and domains from there.

    Just one question...

When I am setting it up, it is asking for my domain name. If I use my main domain name (kymobilemedia dot com), will it mess up my dns settings or anything? I don't want to move my current website to my reseller account.

Or could I do a subdomain for my reseller account?

Or can I upgrade my current host account to reseller?

    Thanks
    Jason

No, the domain name it's asking for is your main domain that everything will work from. Similar to they way you are using your current account.

    >>Or can I upgrade my current host account to reseller?

This would be your best bet, unless you want to have a new domain that you are using for hosting account. I am leaning towards having mysitehosting.com for the hosting part.

If you call HG and tell them what you want to do, they can simplify the process.

    Thanks,

    John

HostGator also has reseller hosting. You pay $20 a month and you can create unlimited cPanel accounts for you clients, and it comes with billing modules and everything.

So for example if you have 100 people who have purchased hosting and maintenance from your for $35, you make $3500 per month and your cost is still only $20 per month.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Joshua

Hostgator is great... I have gone through and still have over 10 different hosting accounts with different companies. Hostgator is the best... unless you're wanting to run a few blackhat scripts, especially with email marketing to a huge list LOL. They will shut you down real quick, but really hostgator is great.
