What's the #1 thing you have learned in 2011 on WF?

I thought it would be fun as we enter 2012 to reflect on what 2011 brought in terms of professional growth on this forum. I have learned an incredible amount in the few months I have been a member. Hopefully I have provided a little useful info to others from my experience as well.

However, of all the great info I have taken away, I have actually learned the most by answering people's questions. There have been a lot of great questions posed on subjects that made my think how I would resolve that problem myself. What has been really great is I have had situations arise that I answered and already knew the solution I would want to take as I had spent the time thinking it out on this very forum.

What is the most important piece of info you took away from WF this year?

Most importantly: Happy New Year and I wish a healthy and prosperous 2012 to everyone.

While I mostly agree, I would add to this response by saying that I have learned not to take anything at face value. For example, we are bombarded with new marketing strategies and I feel it is important to step back and remember that there are only so many proven marketing strategies and that at least %80 of the stuff on the internet is truly useless.

Too many things to list. Participating in this forum regularly is like getting a college education in marketing every year. I particularly like the offline and mobile marketing sections of the forum. Its hard to believe they were not even around a year or two ago.

If I had to choose one thing I learned it is probably the fact that rule of reciprocity really does work. When you focus on giving, it always comes back in some shape or form.

I learned that when it comes to SEO and website setup, I know as much or more than so-called experts who do it full time.

I also learned how to price my copywriting at the right level, which is making it possible for me to concentrate on that more.

Not sure whether I became convinced in 2010 or 2011, But this
year I became totally focused on residual income. Sold some
websites, gave a few away. I will NOT spend any time or effort
on ANYTHING that does not yield residual income.

Early in the year, over in the Adsense section I learned how to make Adsense mini sites and learned SEO - some really helpful people over there. Then I read some stuff from John Durham and understood that picking up the phone was probably the best and fastest way to get business - he is right. In the process I have learned that just sticking with one simple marketing method and working it is the best way to go. And in the last couple months read some of Jason Kanigan's stuff and see that his methods might be really helpful in the future to get bigger clients.

All in all, it has been a good year. Thru what I have learned here, I now support myself and my son and have started a business with my partner, who is my girlfriend and an awesome webdesigner/graphic designer/publication designer.
    Here's to a killer 2012!

This year I learned that offline is definitely where its at in the short term. If you are looking to get your business off the ground quickly and simply want to circumvent the hard stuff while trying to get rid of your day job then you need to be doing some offline marketing with your online skill set.

I totally hope to contribute more as my schedule allows.

I've learned to focus on what I am doing. Stop purchasing tons of WSOs since it may break your focus may get you want to try new things.

When I started IM I choose Adsense, after a week I switch to Amazon, then Clickbank, then CPA Marketing. And in 3 months I just wasted $500-$800 without earning a dime. Then I figure out the problem and it's information overload. So I started back again with Adsense and I've been doing it now for 6 months and earning decent income.

What I learned in 2011: Focus on things that you have started, finish it, meet your goals and expectations.

It is more important to take action than to keep learning. IM is organic. There will always be more to "learn". It takes action to make money. Also you are not in the business you think you are. Whether it is SEO, Social Media, Mobile, etc. being good at them does not bring in new customers. Being good at marketing is how you bring in more customers.

I've realized nearly all the WF "offline marketers" are completely clueless when it comes to anything about marketing to increase profits for offline businesses.

I went from from 2k a month to 10-12k a month when I stopped coming to WF for advice and insight. I then joined a group where people REALLY know what marketing is and how to apply it to offline businesses.

So good bye WF as its done nothing for me except point me in a more valuable direction for my offline consulting knowledge.

I learned that people have the tendency to over complicate things. I found a few real gems here over the past year but in many of them, participant over complicated things rather than sticking to the outline given and quit before they even started. Which leads to the second thing I learned whereby even when good concepts are shared, the possibility of a real competition of other people implementing is slim to none.

      It is easy

Focus on the size of the city/competition

Medium Sized city (100-200K) in Utah will be easier to rank for than L.A. , CA Dentist. Those smaller to medium sized cities need SEO people to

Not to argue and debate with people... Its worthless and harmful, even if you are right.

Be about what you are about, and if someone wants to be foolish, let them be foolish, ignore it, and go on being what you are about.

The best way to deal with foolishness is to ignore it out of your existence, not fight with it and draw the energy to yourself.
