Cold Calling Line Of The Day

I just got done doing about thirty cold calls and wouldn't
you know it, number thirty had the best line of the day.

I used John Durham's opening pitch from "The Great Offline
Telemarketing Report,"

So the end where I asked if he had a Website for his
company he replied with what sounded like a puffed up chest:

"Why yes, I have 15 of them....Yelp, Yellow pages and a bunch
of other ones."

And he was serious....Lol. Oh well, like John Says - Not my target
market.

Props John, for a great report and some great tips at picking up leads!

Had the same situation I didn't want to explain to him that what he said wasn't his website (some local directory) so I ended the call.

...did you say, "Uh...hmm. Say, did you know those are listings for your business on other sites, and not websites for your business? Apples and oranges?"

Be Tough, you would throw this prospect away anyway, so what do you have to lose? You're on the phone with this guy, and only 1 in 4 calls are going to be answered by someone ready to talk, on average...

      Hey Jason,

I explained to him how little control he had over the review sites
and how his own site could project the image he wanted.

I got a pretty good feeling he wasn't budging from his original stance
thinking that these were "his" sites, so I just said thanks for your time
and moved on to the next call.

He is correct, if you already have nothing to lose, go for the kill, or practice a few take away's, or do some thing, anything to hone your skill.

Some thing i hardly see mentioned here, and im guessing its because most people on this forum mentioning phone sales, are rather new at the experience.

Being softspoken, over accomidating, and generally nice on the phone,
does NOT get you too many sales.

It will get you some, not the majority.

The closer you can get to being an *sshole, WITHOUT, being RUDE, or breaking any laws, the more one call close deals you will make.

This is why. Just think abut it for a minute, You are supposed to be an expert in your field.

How many honest to goodness experts do you personally know, that
are not pompous , over bearing, jack *sses ???

they are few and far between.

Buisness owners deal with other business owners all the time, its expected, the more money a company makes, the more of a dick the higher ups are. So they are conditioned to it.

Its a fine line , and extremely easy to over step, and completely lose
any chance you have of making a deal.

i.e its hard to practice the technique. The guy the orig OP mentioned was a perfect candidate to practice this, as well as several other techniques.

lol this is the reason i stay away from offline! i don't have the patience to tell someone they got duped into believe that the site they post their business is not actually their site.

most people get mad and so do i so stray away from this and from this post it makes me feel better that i don't try offline.

I am always amazed by the number of people that think a Yellow Pages listing is a website.

My personal favs are the ones who, when asked if they have a website, say, "I don't need one. I don't have a computer."

      ...maybe your customers do...DOH!

Yes, by the way, I AM in the Witness Protection Program. I could tell you who I am but then I would have to kill you.
