How Do I Add Clickable Phone Number In A Video

Hey Warriors!

First ... Happy New Year to ALL of You!

I have a client that wants me to make his phone number inside a video clickable so it dials the number automatically for them. In a mobile site that is one thing because usually they are on a mobile phone at that time but with a video that will not always be the case.

Nevertheless ... does anyone know how to add a clickable link in just a video (not in a mobile site)?

    Use Callto: It's similar to mailto: but will initiate a Phone Call

      if i am not mistaken it wont work if the user doesnt have skype or netmeeting installed on the computer - unless you embed the video in flash you couldnt really initiate it either... as if you wrapped it in a href tag - the second you click play or stop it would activate the call... and then if the user doesnt have their mic/headphones setup...

      to be honest it seems very impractical to me and I would advise against doing it if the client where mine

      if the client was really persistent about doing something like this - i would say present a feedback form to them that enables the end user to enter in their phone number and submit it to your client - it really depends on the type of call your client is trying to present... is it an automated response or call that will go through to a receptionist or automated service?

      there are services like twilio that offer a great API for doing all kinds of things with telephony - as i mentioned though would need more info to give you better guidance

        Jay, I think you missed that the video will be on a MOBILE website.

          Actually that is not true. The video will be on YouTube and in his Google Places site as well as perhaps other sites but the whole reason for my question is that he wants this to work just inside the video itself.

          He already has a website and mobile site. I am only creating his videos.

            My Bad! Guess "Reading is Fundamental", huh? lol

            The callto: tag will only work if they have a VOIP Dialer configured on their PC, such as Skype, Google Voice, Etc. and most people dont!

            You might consider setting him up with a Free Google Voice Account and make use of the "Click to Call" Feature.

            You can add annotations to Youtube video - but am unsure if you can for commercial purposes... or even callto links as mentioned...

    Thanks Jay and HypeText for your thoughts on this.

    I just talked with client and told him I will be happy to pursue a way for this to work for him at a rate of $100 an hour but there was no guarantee of success. I also mentioned we could go ahead and rank his videos as they are and he suggested rank as they are. LOL

    There may be ways to do this with hosted video, but have not heard of this being done with youtube. If you want to PM me I can talk to you more about this. A lot of my focus is video based marketing/seo.
