[Updated] Please could you reveiw my site?

Hi there,

I have been working through John's 90 Xtreme challenge and almost done with the website.

Please could I ask for your honest feedback as to whether you think it's effective?

Thanks
Di

P.S. You can be honest but be nice. I am exhausted

[Edit] Sheeze. You can tell I am tired. Here is the link: www.di-namicdesign.com

    Very good, Diana.

Off hand I noticed a few issues:

There is no call to action on each page. CALL FOR FREE CONSULTATION TODAY! or something like that. I usually have it on the top of each page and after any section to tell the person what to do next (although I am guilty of the same mistake often).

If you can, cycle the head-type image with example sites or something.

Never underestimate the importance of a good favicon.

Needs facebook connection. You have twitter but they kind of go hand and hand these days.

    Otherwise, lookin' real good!

A favicon is that icon in the URL addressbar right before the www.

      See attached picture.

It is the little icon that appears in the browser's address bar. For instance, the one that is displaying for your site in the default wordpress one.

You can generate them at favicon.ico Generator and then add this code in your template or html:

    <link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/ico" href="favicon.ico">

    Hi Diana,

Wow - what a great start! You have built a really "clean" user friendly website! Congrats!!

I agree with John that a nice call to action in the header will make a huge difference in conversions, and even if people don't call, it gives a feeling of trust that a live person is available to chat with if they have questions. Make sure and include your phone # in the call to action. You have plenty of room on the right side of your header for this.

Also, I nice picture of yourself on the About page really helps prospects know that you are a "real" person and it will give them another level of comfort.

Not 100% sure about your background color/image and it might be a good idea to get some additional input from others or create a small focus group to see what their initial reaction is.

Awesome work! You should be proud of yourself

Hmm. I see the features of what you are offering, but no reasons for why I should choose you to build my website over another designer.

Why do you do what you do? How do you do it differently from others in your field?

From all your posts I know that you are sharp and involved, Di, but people who don't visit the Warrior Forum won't know that. Having more of your personality and these reasons for doing business with you would make for a site that converts more visitors into qualified leads.

Congratulations for taking action...I know how much "fun" it is to ask for feedback.

Di I think your site makes a great 1st impression!

My first suggestion would be to make sure you feature a definite call to action on each page. People are strange...if you Tell them what to do they are much more likely to Do what you want.
If you don't Ask.. you don't Get

Also a Facebook Page specific to This site is important...especially if you plan on offering social media services in the future. You can then ask happy clients to leave a review on your Facebook Page.
    Great for social proof.

A simple, clean Favicon is also one idea that I believe would add a touch of professionalism.

All things considered a fantastic start for a growing site.

    Thanks Aurora,

I do have FB and Twitter icons on some of the other pages, just not the first one. Will setup a new FB account this evening for the site. I have done the favicon but not happy with it. I am going to change it.

Working on the call to action now

    Thanks

    Hi Di,

Congrats on stepping up the game A short list of stuff you REALLY need to solve:

    * Contacts + Call to Action - You want those always visible above the fold. ALWAYS.
    * Green design, dark background... why? I know this is a tricky area BUT blue, orange, gray and white combos are very, very effective in this market.
    * Options Page has nothing, you need to make this one of your best converting pages.
    * Contact Page, insert phone, email, Skype, Twitter, at the very least - otherwise you look like a "weird" company (no way to contact you beside that form)

Overall you're on the right track! Go tweaking it and we'll advice you along the way.

Congrats again!!! The most difficult part is taking action

Nice and simple website there Di. Visually appealing and you strictly followed KISS, no non-sense sites are what people are looking for.

    OK, now with the -ves:

    1. Lose that Background pattern. It doesn't gel well with the site's look and feel.
    2. Logo needs more professional approach. It's kinda handwritten but makes me feel that the web designer of Di-namic Design didn't care much about it.
    3. I would suggest an opt-in form with a free incentive on the home page and link to the form at the end of every page. If not a customer now, may be in a few more months.

I will stop here. BTW, good design.

I did the hand-written feel on purpose. Might have to re-think it.

I do have the optin, just not on the first page. Will look at it.

Working on the background as everyone seems to hate it

    Hi Diana,

Well done. The site is professional. My only suggestion would be to not try to build so many pages all at once. Why not just add what you currently have available and even gradually add more things you have now but can add one at a time.

Doing the latter you won't get so overwhelmed. Your site is a living breathing being, it can grow. That's allowed. You don't have to build everything in there all at once.

If you take it bit by bit you also then have something new to always send to your existing prospects and customers about why else they should actually visit your site.

This is a great follow up technique that few use so you'll stand out. I'll be using this too on my new consulting site, it's a neat little trick I've always adviced my own clients to use.

Doing this also means you'll launch your site quicker and start getting in prospects and clients faster. This was my technique back in 2010 and I launched my site within hours and got prosepcts and leads within minutes.

The site shouldn't be INCOMPLETE but you should only add what is most pressing or easily available to your clients now. The rest are upgrades you can call or text or email them about to check out online etc later.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Cheers

    Kunle

      Hello Diana

      How's you today? My thoughts...

This whopping great image on your homepage? It's not doing you any favors.

A/ It's very difficult to read your business name, I'm afraid to say this so bluntly but it just looks like a great splurge of indecipherable green splattered across the page.

It looks like you've tripped over the paint box or something.

B/ In the bottom left hand corner where it starts with...

      Your Business Online?
This and the text below it, is virtually impossible to read. Black text never works well on a dark background.

So, I want you to ask yourself a question...

Given the choice between using this image in it's current form or getting rid of it altogether and replacing it with strong benefit driven copy...

...which do you think will boost your conversion rate the most?

Which do you think will help to create the best impression in the mind of your website visitors?

This is what you have to think about.

And next, half hidden, just appearing above the fold, is the start of what appears to be, your main headline. Truth be told, I'd make the image above (if you insist on keeping it) a lot smaller and get this main headline SEEN.

As you already know your main headline must capture the readers attention in two seconds flat. And the way to do this is to seed instantly into your visitors mind, one BIG benefit.

You've got to do more to grab your prospects attention Diana.

So this main headline... you can either make a big promise, or you can draw a picture, state a fact, or ask a question - with the sole intention of stirring up in the unconscious mind of your prospects one core emotion.

      Or emphasize one good idea.

      Or introduce one captivating story.

Or direct your prospect to one inevitable response.

Remember, design has it's place but it's the words you use to connect to your prospects emotions which is vitally important.

And assuming this is very highly targeted traffic, warm and hot leads visiting your site for the first time, you want to put yourself into their shoes.

You want to understand fully what makes your website visitors minds tick.

You want to uncover their feelings of frustration and pain. Lay them bare whilst simultaneously switching their conscious mind off so the unconscious mind accepts your solution with open arm pleasure upon finding their ideal solution to the current problem experienced. Be the answer to their prayers.

The intention is to have your website visitors slipping down your sales funnel uncontrollably savoring every word and emotion you impart into their brain cells.

Getting them more and more excited to the point where they just have to act on your advice. And so you have at it and sock 'em straight between the eyeballs with a direct call to action, telling them exactly what's expected of them to do next.

Print this out and apply it and I'm sure you'll see your conversion rate virtually explode into profit.

If you need any further assistance Diana, you know where to find me.

Kindest regards and all best wishes,

      Mark Andrews

        This^^

I agree wholeheartedly with Mark's post. It's the reason sites with seemingly awkward (or down right ugly) designs are able to convert.

Heed Mark's advice and rework your site.

I do have two other questions for you.

        • Are you going after local leads or will you take all comers?
        • What type of marketing will you be doing?

I ask because if you're pursing local customers there's a better chance you'll have touched them with some other form of marketing communication. Most likely those will be warmer leads.

          Hi Kevin,

My target market is actually small companies in South Africa. As this is so new, my current strategy is contacting business people I know (I know a lot). I do a some research on their site (if they have one) and then I approach them either with a website offer or a mobile site offer. Then I show them the few sites that I have done.

I am also telling certain sharp people about the fact that I offer a referal fee for all successful orders.

All very new though, so the strategy will be tweaked as I go along

Clean, Nice design. Agree with previous posts on call to action and logo. Also suggest that you move your testimonial up and add a sample of work you did for him.
    Are your prices in USD?
(Your testimonial's from New Mexico and you're in South Africa and your prices are not expensive.)
In the slider quote Your Business Online: third line down, "...Is your's doing the job?" should be "yours."
Why not use words from that testimonial for slider text headlines and copy?
"Made my life easier..." "proven her worth to me over and over again."
    This is testimonial gold!
Great job, and cheers to your success!

    Hi Diana,

Here is the link of the website that I get my work from. Rather then list stuff a bunch of stuff, it might be better to show you a successful example. Remember you are asking people to pay you $300 plus, they need to feel confident.

This guy has testimonials, and more importantly examples, examples and examples. His call to action is smack on the front page, which is a free quote.

Hyper6 – Custom Websites, Landing Pages, Wordpress Themes, Business cards and More! Maybe you can pick up some pointers.

I think you have a good start, but with the prices you are charging, you might have some trouble. I would start of a lot lower, build up your portfolio, and then start raising the prices. Yours now, are comparable to his, maybe your work is as good, or even better, but we don't know without examples.

I hope my two cents is helpful.

The hard part is done, "Getting Started". You are doing 98% better then most.

      Misspellings, etc:

      "Team" page...
      1. You have a misspelling in the first sentence of each of the two paragraphs:
"I am looking for dynamic, innovative technical/sales people who would be confortable working as a remote team on various projects."
"Sales team members receive a 15% referal fee on all successful orders." (or is that S.A. spelling?)

      2. Technically, I believe 'Internet' should be capitalized:
      About=3x
      Contact=1x
      Reports=1x
      Blog=2x

      3. Home Page
      Is "your's" appropriate for S.A.?
      Did you mean "

I know there are many different business models, but you may find it worthwhile to seek opinions on your "15% referal fee" for sales people. IMHO, it seems a bit low. I'd suggest 25% to as much as 50% on initial orders (0% on any later business with that client). Of course if your sales reps earn ongoing commissions for any client they bring to you then 15% may be a bit more acceptable. You've no doubt heard the saying: "50% of something is better than 100% of nothing" - especially when future work from that client is 100% yours.

    Thanks Bryson,

The reason is that I have a redirect going to my mobile site if you are accessing the site from a mobile phone. It works if you access the mobile site from a pc.

Not sure how to get around that proplem.

      Hi Diana,

Your site looks really good now. I also like the mobile site. I'm not sure who's script you're using for your mobile site, but Will's script includes how to link back to a desktop site from a mobile site.

Also, do you mind me asking where you got those little 3D guy graphics? Those are cool.

        Hi Mike

I am using Will's script, but for some reason if you are on a mobile, the script keeps re-directing me back to the mobile site. It works fine if you access the mobile site via a pc then click on the desktop redirect. On the "To Do' list to sort out.

The 3D guys I bought from Deposit Photo.com. I think they are just sooo cute

You've taken a WP theme and did a bad job of trying to alter it. That's why businesses hire professional web designers and don't mind paying them. Looks like you used this theme: Colorway Hotel

If you drag an empty text widget into the fat footer widgets it won't show that empty green space where the fat footer goes.

The background could be changed then it wouldn't be so obvious you're using the exact theme.

I could go on but this type of scam ticks me off so much I'd probably say something I wouldn't regret.

You are right. It is the Colourway theme and I used it for MY site. At the beginning of July last year I did not know how to install a WP Blog or what HTML coding was.

I know a lot more now than I did 5 months ago and a lot less than I will in 5 month's time. What's more, I learnt everything I know to date in just three hours a day at night (after a full day job, playing taxi to three kids, doing all my own housework and cooking - and all on my own with no extra cash flow) because I had to do something to change my financial situation.

So you can call me a bad designer, a crap business person, whatever you like except a scammer because you do not know the first thing about me and what I am capable of achieving.

Thanks for the constructive advice on the background and footer area. It's on the "To-Do" list.

      Di

P.S. Your advice on the footer did not work. It just made it 'fatter'. Thanks anyway.

Diana, don't worry about what this guy has to say.

Your site is looking good and good for you for taking the initiative. And who cares whether or not you use Wordpress and existing themes. Clients don't care if you code it in binary so long as it looks good and does what it's supposed to do, get them customers, show credibility and give people a way to contact them etc etc.

To everyone considering doing or doing design work, it's OK to use Wordpress and pre-bought themes regardless of what anyone says.

      Cheers,

    Much improved, Di!

The "FREE Mobile Site" box is much more effective than the original version.

The white text ("More customers...") on the green image is displaying with some jagged edges in both Chrome and Firefox. I wonder if it lost resolution when saved, or got expanded. Might be worthwhile to re-do this image.

Nope, still scraggly, sorry. Tried both browsers and hit ctrl-F5 to reload, and opened the image in a separate tab too. Anyone else seeing the white text this way?

I've attached a screenshot in Firefox. See how the sides of the M and w and several other characters look jagged? (Or not; it's frickin' tiny...gonna upload it to my site and link, be back in a sec.)

    OK here:

    Di, lookin' much better!

I personally dont like the menu option 'options'. To me it is not as clear as "Services/Packages". Pick your words VERY carefully as John mentions in his P90X threads.

I'm a bit confused by the picture in the carousel, but it may resonate with who you want it to...something to test.

Last thing is as on JD's site, I think you still need a clear path for the visitor. He has a "Start Right Here" button.

Fantastic for taking action! For some reason I missed JD's WSO as it was taking me so long to read the threads that I did not know there was a WSO till too late. But I am applying what I can glean from the threads to my own business.

UPDATE: Missed one I just noticed both you and JD can benefit from. Highlight the package you want them to buy more...perhaps making the ribbon RED or saying LIMITED TIME SPECIAL. That way, they get the idea you are leading them to that package. Don't know John's thinking on this tho.

I changed my header to say "Click on Services tab now"

Wow that was fast! I would just link the header directly to services page and say "Get Your Free Mobile Site Now! Click Here."

There is something wrong with either your image or code (resizing too small an image maybe) on that as well.

        Good job!

Btw, do you know if John is still posting his updates? I cant seem to locate a new post by him regarding P90X

Oh it's your image....not using anti-alias on your text can cause that. Also noticed why you did it that way...that is one header image not two. Stupid WP!

    Hi Di,

Just a quick thought...when I click on the "Click on the 'Services' tag now!" in the top right, I get linked to the home page. I think it would be better if the link sent you to the Services page.
