Google Maps Question

I have a new client that is a part of a franchise. His Google Maps listing has the corporate web address with a page dedicated to his local business.

We want to build a separate site. What would you do about the Google Maps listing?

Would you go into the listing and change the web address? Would you delete that listing and start a new listing? Would you list the new domain and allow it and the original to appear, then delete the original one?

I want to do the right thing here. Recommendations would be appreciated.

PS His current Google Maps listing is pitiful and he does not show on the first page for anything.

Thank you.

  • If the address of the business hasn't been claimed, I would take that and start over. It more driven by address than name of business.

  • Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, the address has been claimed.
  • I think that you start the new one and then once it is up, you can delete it or the better thing would be to do a redirect from the old to the new. That way if someone has it bookmarked etc. you don't lose them.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for answering. You can redirect a Google Maps listing? Or, are you talking about the website?
