A little trick with Mobile Website Mockups that works really well.

Hi,

I am not sure if this kind of tiip has been shared before, but I did something this afternoon that turned out to be really effective.

I picked up a business card today, went to the client's site and it was really nice. Then I looked at it on my cell phone and it was not optimised.

Within half an hour I had done a quick mockup using his information from his existing website, including his graphic, colour scheme and his location information and ftp'd it up one of my sites. This I learnt from WillR and Russ Sells.

Then I called him, told him I had picked up his business card and LOVED his website, but had he seen what it looks like on a mobile phone. He said no. I asked him to go and check and I would send him an sms with a website link that he needed to click on via his cellphone and that he should click on the "Click to Call" button.

The link took him straight to his mockup site with all his details, but the only difference was that the "Click to Call" button was set up to call my cell phone

He called me and laughed. Said that was the best marketing strategy he had ever encountered. I did not tell him that I learnt all of this from the Warrior Forum. That's going to be our little secret

Hope this helps someone.

Di

I have SMS demo's set up that have a mobile website mock up in the demo, shortened by bitly (so the reply ends with the mobile site). Not one person who has seen it didn't love it. Much less targeted than you did, and they still love it so I can only imagine how much he loved it since it was his site.

    Nice work for sure -

If that method works out to be worth your time, I would rock it. Unless you do 10 mock ups, and only 1 bites, that is 5 hours or more spent up front :-) . But if you do 10 mock ups and 7 bite, that is way worth it.

    Keep us updated.

      Ryan,

I don't understand. Are you saying that you setup multiple generic demo sites and then send people an sms to the site? It does sound like a more effective use of time.

        Wewps, I wasn't clear lol

I have an SMS component I am building, for something like a VIP club for bars/restaurants to have (or any number of ways to apply SMS). So when I show someone the demo SMS and how it works "Yeah, just text keyword to shortcode to see how it works" , that reply they get is a mock up reply: "Thanks for joining bla bla show this for your coupon. mobilewebsite here"

So, they ALWAYS click it, almost instantly out of curiosity. It is just one generic mock up site with numerous pages. Everything from location to Facebook to a menu page (so they can see examples of the pages they could have) with a click to call button.

Essentially, I am trying to sell SMS, but have the easy sell for the mobile site with out even mentioning it to them :-)

It is numerous demo keywords for the different applications of the system (text 2 poll, text 2 screen etc) all ending with the same , 1 generic mock up.

      Sounds really interesting.

What was cool was, in casual conversation over the weekend watching my Saints lose , I was talking to a guy who managed a local pizza place, with two locations. So I talked to him about SMS, had him do the demo really quick, and the mobile mock up site is a pizza place lol

He is talking to the owner today :-)

Yea, it is effective way to get the mock ups seen, just showing our SMS demo.

The idea crossed my mind yesterday actually, but never tried it. I think I'll give it a shot.

    Thank you!

An effective twist (sending the SMS and your number on the click to call) to the mockup idea. Thanks!
