I have a little topic I'm debating with myself and I thought I would come here and get your opinions. A long time ago someone (I dont remember who) told me that once you use a keyword on a particular article on your site, you don't want to use it again. His reasoning was that two posts using the same keyword would be effectively competing against each other in google for that keyword/keyword phrase.

Looking at that wisdom now I can't help but think that using the same keyword multiple times should actually improve your site's chances of ranking for a certain keyword. Not only would you have a better chance of at least one of the pages coming up in the SERPs, but potentially having more than one page rank. Also, by featuring that keyword multiple times on your site Google might get the idea that it is important and figure that it is a good keyword to rank you for.

So what do you guys think?

Hey Eric it's an interesting topic that you bring up, however i think the discussion would be best suited to the Adsense/PPC/SEO forum

    Hi Eric,

I agree with Rick, but just real quick. The best way to do this is create a page for each keyword. On that page you can you have several articles on just an ongoing topic on that keyword.

You could also just post small bits in a post with the keyword linking back to the main page you made for that keyword.

    Hope this helps.

For starters google does not rank your webpage based on JUST keywords. There are many other factors responsible for ranking your page and keyword is the least of them all.
Second, you can use a particular keyword in your site in many different places. It all depends on the context. And I dont think Google will make both the pages from your site in competition. The competition exists only when a particular keyword is used on other sites with the same context.
      Hope this is helpful

Sorry to have posted in the wrong section, if a mod wants to move it, please, do so!

On to the debate. I should mention that I run my sites using the Wordpress platform and in general I have 5-10 "pages" of evergreen content that are displayed in my top nav bar. Then I write "articles" which are basically blog post in several different categories. In these posts I add in-text links back to the evergreen pages using keywords related to those on the evergreen pages.

But I guess the point is that as long as it's on my website, I can use the same keywords as many times as I like as long as they are relevant/not spammy (using same keyword a hundred times on one page for example). Do you guys agree with this?

Just put one or two main keyword in the body text. You can stuff more keywords in the tag option.

Now lets not misunderstand, I am not talking about keyword stuffing! I am talking about writing articles that include a "main point" sort of keyword. I know there are many factors that contribute to getting you ranked in the SERPs, but having a focused topic that Google can latch on to and understand the point of a page is still important. Certainly including a phrase in your meta title and meta description as well as the content of the article once or twice is still a useful practice. Many great SEOs agree on this point.

It seems like everyone has a different answer for the definition of keyword stuffing. That's part of the problem with trying to figure a lot of the elements of SEO out, there is no clear cut answer to almost any question.

Repetition of a same Keyword on single page is not more that 5-6, otherwise it is put to spam. But to improve ur site it is necessary to have some unique keyword & they must be related to the content of the page ( whatever it describes) or site.
Keyword help google to categorize the site. Just try Google Adwards to find the good keywords.

But would that rule you give of 5-6 per page depend on other factors as well? For example, say a typical page has 500-1,000 words of content but some pages might have 5,000 words or more. In those cases, it it acceptable to have more repetition?
