Offline Business Builder Series: "The Truth About The Great Offline Con Game..."

Hey Offliners,

Today I have a little bit of a bone to pick.

See, just like you I'm on about a dozen or so emails lists for various offline guru's.

So, just like you, I see a ton of folks who are claiming that it was one single secret strategy that they are using that is just allowing them kill it right now in the offline niche.

However, they don't tell you the other half of the story.

You know what I mean.

The other half of the story when the offline guru received $10,000 from a relative, which allowed them to run ads in their local papers for several months in order to get clients.

Or the family member who donated computer equipment, a furnished office space and volunteered their teenage son as a part-time worker for three days a week to work for free in their offline business.

Or the wealthy friend who worked for Google for fifteen years who allows the offliner guru to use his name and image in their advertising to add credibility.

Or the spouse who works for a fortune 500 company and practically bribes clients to purchase the offline marketing services of their spouse.

See, because I put out products and run in a few circles of connected offliners, I get to hear the stories behind the stories.

I hear about the once-in-a-lifetime wet dream hookups that you or I could only dream about.

Think about it.

Would having a relative give you $10,000, $20,0000 or $50,000 allow you to have a marketing advantage over a working joe offliner who's trying to scrape together $100 to run a ad in the local paper?

Do you think having a spouse who has the ability to choose which companies are awarded lucrative contracts valued in the hundreds of thousands and millions at their "regular" job based on who hires you for their marketing services would give you an advantage?

Heck yes!

The sad part is that it took me almost three years to figure out that there are some folks who have advantages that I simply can't duplicate.

So, when I tried to do things like they did them, it didn't work for me because I wasn't in their exact marketplace with their exact marketing message, exact expertise, exact knowledge or resources.

In short, I wasn't them.

However, over the years I discovered that I can create my own unique advantage by:

- Being more disciplined in my marketing and business-building efforts over longer periods of time.

- Investing more time and energy in my education by consistently reading books, newsletters, emails and marketing pieces by the marketing greats.

- Creating automated marketing systems that allow me to duplicate my efforts for little to no extra effort or expense. Evergreen webinars and teleseminars, pre-scheduled emails and voice broadcasts to name a few.

- Buying products or training programs that support my existing business plans. No shiny object syndrome here.

- Building a "real" business based on "real" business principles.

Those are advantages I can create without getting a huge break from anyone. That also means I can duplicate these advantages at will in any area of my offline business.

Now, just to be clear, let me say that I'm not bashing people who've had help from family or friends. And I'm definitely not bashing people who have gotten lucky breaks. Lord knows I've needed and received help over the years.

All I'm saying is to take all of the information you're seeing and reading with a grain of salt (or a mountain of salt in some cases) when you're investing in resources or listening to people tell you their offline success stories.

You may not be getting the entire story.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Guess it's no different from anyone in business, who has gotten a leg-up from others, as you describe.

it's not what ya know, its who you know! Get out there and network!

I owned a mfg company and ended up hiring a commissioned mfg rep who was a spouse of a buyer for a national chain. That led to $12 million in annual sales. We had awesome product and it took about 6 mos to get up and running, but hiring the right people who know the right people sure helps
